We came here for a late night dinner on a Saturday. There were about 6 other couples. Our sever was Jose, whom didn’t ask if we needed anything, didn’t pay attention to drink refills, overall he was extremely unhelpful. The food was edible at least the guacamole was very fresh and my husband had a steak which did have good flavor.(Side note: they asked how he wanted it cook which is odd for a Mexican restaurant, however he order medium and received well down) Their beans tasted and had the consistency of canned beans which is extremely disappointing when you are a Mexican restaurant you shouldn’t cut corners on the bread and butter of your restaurant. I’d save your money for the guy outside serving the Mexican style hotdogs.

Let me premise this with the fact that I’ve never written a negative review on Unilocal in my life. 0 stars. This pains me to say because I’ve had such amazing experiences here the past three times I’ve been but I came with my friend, boyfriend, and my boyfriend’s cousin visiting from Chicago on a Sunday night. Unlike everyone else seated tonight, the hostess tucked us away between the kitchen and bathrooms. I mentioned to our party how ridiculous our seating was and the hostess got into my face and sarcastically asked where else I’ve rather be sitting. Subsequently walking from employee to bartender, very uncharacteristically. Our food and drinks were awful. Only bruised fruit and cold, tasteless food were served to all of us. The hostess was rude and disruptive to our meal. I’ve never had a disrespectful«customer service» like this.

This place is seriously delicious. We came here for brunch and they have an amazing brunch menu, a la carte delicious breakfast tacos, cheap drinks, free bottomless chips and salsa(which are delicious!!) and top notch service to top it all off. Our server was the best and most courteous person ever, she was so attentive and sweet. The food was BOMB. I got two chicken hard tacos and they were sooooo delish. I also got a scrambled egg chorizo taco and that was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. All the tortillas are amazing. My friends got soft tacos and all of them were Raving as well. I can’t believe this place has only 3 stars, it def deserves wayyyyyy more! Soooooo delish.

So delicious. Plenty of vegetarian options. Even though they didn’t have a soyrizo burrito on the menu I asked the waiter if they could substitute my burrito with it and they accommodated. It was amazing. Good micheladas. My husband liked his margarita

I went there with my girlfriends today randomly ended up there. We ordered sangria a white and red … They were the worst sangria I ever tasted, didn’t know you could ever fuck up sangria but apparently you can. The food was actually pretty good! I loved that they made tortillas home made they were amazing. The vibe was pretty cool as well

Very loud on a Friday night. The ceiling, while artful, is echo-prone. There is an upstairs area where a large loud party was deafening. There is a club attached. Thumping music could be heard throughout the restaurant. The food: fantastic. I had the pumpkin enchiladas. Great taste and consistency. Cheesy and savory. Kale and a lot of pumpkin balanced this vegetarian dish. The rice was average-to-good, but the pinto beans were out-of-a-can tasting. Undercooked, salty, but edible. The best part was the guacamole. Hand made-to-order. Amazingly fresh, and had a bite to it. The sangria was overly alcoholic. The fruit was soaked in tequila then the wine. Good, but a little too much went a long way. This place earned their three stars based on the noise and the pinto beans, but I would return to try them at a quieter time and would likely give them better stars.

Yeah it’s pricey Mexican food, but the flavors were good and I loved the options on the menu for both drinks and food. Not to mention the restaurant itself was very large, open, and modern. We sat on the second floor which was cool because we could look down on the lower level and check everything out. To drink we ordered the bloody Maria which was spicy and I enjoyed the fact that it had a chile guero on top. I also ordered a margarita with a very spicy chile rim. For dinner, I had the ground beef and pickle crunchy tacos. The tacos were crunchy, lots of ground beef, and the pickles large. Also comes with cheddar cheese. A side of rice and pinto beans. Overall, very tasty! My bf ordered the al pastor carnitas plate and the pork was super flavorful. Sooooo gooood! We also ordered the street corn(great as always but it is $ 5) and a bowl of bacon & refried beans to dip some chips in. Overall the food hit the spot and the flavors were delicious. A solid choice if in the area.

Wish I could give this place negative 5 stars. Walked in with a friend at 4pm on a Saturday to grab a margarita. The place was empty and the guy at the door told me i couldn’t come in because I was wearing sandals(it’s 80 degrees in LA everyone is wearing sandals… This place isn’t fine dining) … Then as we went to leave he made sure my friend also knew she wasn’t welcome there because she was wearing a sleeveless top. I guess they would rather have an empty restaurant than allow two girls dressed appropriately for warm weather in their«establishment»… We will never go back.

Had some of the best margaritas I’ve ever had in LA here one night after a long day of shooting a music video. My whole crew raved over them including myself. The real winner for me was their Piñata Smash Margarita that had pineapple and jalapeño. Jalapeño so hot my lips burned a little while after I drank it. Four stars on this review because initially we put our names in to get a table and despite the appearance of their being plenty of tables that could seat the 5 of us it took a half hour of waiting after which we decided to just stay put at the bar.

Wish I could give zero stars honestly. My mom was visiting from Oklahoma and was craving Mexican food so I was like let’s go to mas malos. Bad idea. When I walked in o asked the door man if the downstairs was open and he told me he «didn’t work there.» Apparently by asking that I came across as rude and after getting seated I asked for an item off their old menu and the waitress looked at me like was retarded. While I was at dinner the a different sever came to our table and told me I was«too intoxicated» killed my vibe. On bible I was with my mom and she was like«nah he’s not intoxicated» after ordering my margarita never got one. I was so pissed off after this point I didn’t event eat my food and took it to go. Not to be an annoying vegan, which I’m not. When I asked for my order I told her I was vegetarian and she legit asked me, «do you still want rice and beans.» S E R I O U S L Y !!! And then as I was walking out the doorman wouldn’t give me his name because I wanted to mention him in this review. He told me I was rude after telling him he was ignorant for not knowing the ins and outs of the facility he’s facilitating. Hire a better security guard and when you do please show them around so that they know if there is a downstairs or not. I’ve never been more aggravated about a situation like this ever before. I should have just gone to chipotle if i wanted to be treated like the shits you get after eating chipotle. Ps Mas Malo used to be tight.

You guys, you can order the chips chewy! They are chewy and delicious. I think they keep them in the deep fryer for just a tad less time than the regular chips. I highly recommend you try it. The squash blossom tacos are also amazing, and available for the $ 2 taco Tuesday price after 4:00 on Tuesdays. I highly recommend this place!

Went here on «A Night On Broadway» on a whim. It was my first time here and when we walked in, the restaurant seemed… smokey… and my friend and I were waiting to be acknowledged by SOMEONE for a good 15 mins. There was no host/hostess at the front and I had to flag down someone. Finally got seated and was given salsa and chips — salsa was spicy but we like spicy. I don’t think it would have been pleasant for someone who didn’t like spicy things. Waiter was friendly but seemed like he was doing 100 things at once but was still attentive. I ordered green salsa chicken enchiladas — informed no rice — even the waiter was like WTF and asked if I would like extra beans or salad? Food was taking long, he came back said they had rice now, and food came out about 10 mins. after. The plate was not prepared to look appeasing. Now, we were starving and weren’t expecting an artistic statement but it looked like someone threw up green sauce, beans, a little rice, and salad everywhere. The salsa verde was spicy as hell — tried my friends red salsa and it was equivalent — not sure how they range their spices. Also, it would have been more professional to tell someone about the spice. Again, I like spicy so I ate it, sniffling the entire time. Waiter checked on us a couple times. Then also ordered the Tres Leches cake which was good but nothing special. The enchiladas didn’t taste like anything special and didn’t seem fresh fresh. That same night and following week… my stomach was messed up. I had nothing prior to that dinner and it had to be from them. Something wasn’t prepared right. I was horribly sick and eventually got the stomach flu. I have NEVER had the stomach flu as bad as I had it this time around. I will NOT be eating here again and hope the FDA comes and checks them out. It seems to be a more bar focused location rather than food. For the price — one would expect well prepared, fresh, gourmet Mexican food… NOPE.

I went here with my friend after a late night party when on the hunt for food and discovered the first kitchen open after 11:30pm within walking distance. We immediately asked for chips and salsa cause we were pretty hungry and common sense says that if you are waiting at a table for your server at a Mexican restaurant then you are allowed chips and salsa. Not here, we were told we could buy salsa or get a flight. We were already getting guac so we just decided to pass. That’s a new one. I asked if I could have a shrimp quesadilla. I didn’t see it specifically on the menu but I did see they had a chicken quesadilla and shrimp in other dishes so I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal. Oh it was– I was told that it would be impossible to make me a shrimp quesadilla. But please señor, just shrimp and cheese? Nope. The guacamole was pretty good. I have a sensitive palate so the flavor was just enough for me. I wasn’t sure how I was gonna feel about the pomegranate seeds in it but it was okay– definitely different and not sure if it added to the flavor. I ordered the fish tacos and they came pretty quickly. Granted there were only three parties seated at the restaurant. They tasted better than expected but I am still having onion breath a half a day and two tooth brushings later. Everyone else was in the clubs obvi. Our server was nice and service was about average. Now it’s the next day and I woke up feeling all messed up in my stomach :/this meal was the last I had and so I’m pretty sure the fish tacos didn’t agree with me I’d be willing to try this place again. I definitely left with mix feelings.

Came here last night for a bday celebration! The ambience is very pleasant. Love the ceilings! The food was alright! I had the Coke carnitas the only thing they were lacking was a nice salsa to compliment the pork. The tortillas were really a plus! They were thick and tasted authentic! Free tres leches complimentary slice of cake for the bday girl! I tried the spicy cucumber margarita as some Unilocalers had recommended and it did not disappoint! The drink itself is about 4 stars!!! Some of the people in my party enjoyed the camarones a la diabla and it was a bit too spicy but equally delicious. All in all I think I would come back for happy hour since I think the dishes were a little overpriced.

Ugh, I am disappointed to say, this restaurant let down my expectations! My husband and I came here for a quick late lunch on a weekday afternoon. We met at the restaurant around 1:30pm, well after the lunch rush, there was only about 4 –5 tables filled. Right off the bat, we had to wait for awhile to get the menus. The waitress apologized for the wait and said she would be right back, but we probably had to wait another 5 minutes before we got menus. No biggie but that was just the tip of the iceberg. We didn’t get chips and salsa until 20 minutes in probably, and the waitress was beyond inattentive throughout the whole lunch. When we finally ordered, we asked what she recommended. Turns out the dish she recommended, was pretty bland and awful(the Torta). Neither of us enjoyed it and we couldn’t get a refill on our water or diet coke for the life of us. We kept looking around for her and she was no where to be found. I would’ve told the waitress that the dish wasn’t good instead of writing a negative review, but the only other time she came to our table was to give the check. Honestly, save your dollars and go somewhere else. Unless its happy hour. their happy hour menu looked legit.

Service here makes you just want to scream — but their Baja shrimp tacos make up for all the chaos. A note for non spicy tongues out there– avoid the red sauce they serve with this plate and get the green instead. I will hand it to them — we changed our reservation two times because our party of 8 was collectively running late, so kudos to the hostess who I kept bugging. Other than that, good luck trying to get your order taken or getting a refill.

There was a bar, the restaurant, and then a slight ‘lounge’ when you go up. It seemed more of a private area; however I’m sure it was open for everyone. We got settled in and ordered the Spicy Cucumber Margarita. It definitely did not disappoint as it was super strong as well as spicy. A very unique drink and quite a refreshing one. We really didn’t go for any appetizers(Note: They don’t serve chips & salsa like other Mexican places do), so we went straight for the main course. I ordered the Pollo Yucateca Asada and a side of rice & beans. The main course came with tortillas(choice of corn or flour) so that you could make your own soft tacos. The chicken was juicy & soft and not too dry; however, I guess it was a bit too salty for my taste. I used some lime to neutralize the salt and couldn’t tell much once put in that tortilla anyways… Overall, the place was great. With food, drinks & tip, it came out to a little over $ 40 per person. I would definitely recommend this place!

Wonderful staff! Nice full bar! Great food — even delicious VEGAN options as well! YAY! The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the lighting. Such a beautiful atmosphere RUINED by terrible lighting. Everyone at your table will look pale and sickly. I wish they’d invest in changing this… could be so much more romantic and would also rank as one of my favorite restaurants if they did.

Más Malo, if you aren’t familiar with Spanish that means«the most bad» they live up to that name. Not bad as in Michael Jackson bad meaning good, regular bad as in I will never eat here again. Regular bad as in we should’ve gone to the taco truck we would have enjoyed our meal more. Más malo as in even a bacon wrapped hot dog from a questionable cart on the street would’ve been better. We ordered: 1. Shrimp Fundido– ew & too spicy 2. Nopales– who knows what they tasted like because they were waaay too spicy 3. Flautas– who knows what they tasted like because they were waaay too spicy 3. Coke Carnitas– carnitas were good but the beans were way too spicy 4. Zucchini with Soyrizo– it’s alright, made us crave eggs 5. Chips & Tomatillo Salsa & Tomato Salsa– THESALSAWASTHEONLYTHINGTHATWASNTSPICY?! Server– We complained about the spiciness and she said«well you are at a Mexican restaurant» rather than offering to replace the offending items. I normally excuse bad service for an amazing meal, but when I get neither, what’s the point? One star added because after we had to speak to a manager to get 2 items removed we still spent over $ 50

Their Sunday Brunch special features $ 5.00 tacos(and by tacos i mean, they have several different kinds of tacos, but there is only one taco in that order). I’ll just let that sink in for a bit… You do get chips and salsa though, so that’s nice. Drink prices are a tad on the high side, with most drinks clocking in at about $ 10 – 12. The brunch drink specials were mimosas and margaritas for $ 6. If they ask you if you want salt on your margarita, I would refrain. The margaritas that we got were massively salty already. Meh. It seems like they wasted a great space, it could be so much more…

There’s no need to ever go here at a time other than happy hour, and there’s really no need to go here for happy hour unless you’re close by and really want a margarita. Everything on the HH menu is fine, but nothing is really outstanding. Don’t listen to your servers: the Mexican pizza is not good. Really the best thing they have to offer are their margaritas, don’t come here expecting to be blown away by anything else.

I’m only here to talk about the salsa chips and the white sangria. Try the chewy chips there a combination of half cooked oily chips. The salsa has a nice kick. They offer a few spicy drinks. If you like a sweet subtle drink get the white sangria if you like white wine. I tried red sangria because the bartender made a mistake when I told him white. The red sangria is good, but I prefer white. That’s why I rated it 3 stars. The bartender seemed aloof at times. There’s another bar/lounge upstairs on Fridays that seems to be happening.

This place has a cool ambiance(and clearly marked vegetarian/vegan options), but it didn’t live up to the hype for me! First the service was great! I sat up at the bar and had the Jicama(non-alcoholic) and some chips and salsa(fantastic) while I waited for my enchiladas rojas. They came with a side salad that was also amazing, but unfortunately the enchiladas tasted a little off. I didn’t really enjoy them and ended up only eating 1⁄3. Maybe I just tried the wrong menu item, but for the price I think you can find better elsewhere!

Not a fan. The elote was over boiled corn! Gross no flavor and the guacamole was so bland I tried to add salt and lime and still didn’t come to life. The beans in the picture was like canned drained beans with no flavor. I do have to say the service was excellent but unfortunate because the food sucked.

I went to Mas Malo for happy hour with my coworkers the other day and was far from impressed. I looked through the menu a couple of times and wasn’t sure what to order from their limited menu. I finally decided to go with the«Carnitas«al pastor» for $ 17– it wasn’t very flavorful and the corn tortillas were thick and wet– not my style. Flour tortilla was not an option and they didn’t have any sauces… I guess this wasn’t an authentic Mexican restaurant. Also, the prices here are on the high end and you’re likely not going to get a bang for your buck. My coworker got a salad and was literally given a bed of kale. Like, if I were to get some kale from the market, cut it into bitable pieces, and place it on a plate, it would look exactly like what my coworker got. Mas Malo’s only redeeming factor was its extremely kind/accommodating staff. One of the waiters heard our comments regarding the dish and brought by some salsa. Overall, I wouldn’t plan another happy hour here.

Mas Malo is seriously disappointing. I stopped in one afternoon for a late lunch with my sister because she was craving Mexican food. We both ordered a Jalepeno Watermelon Margarita and it was phenomenal albeit pricey AF. Their signature drinks are well made and they have an extensive cocktail menu that is worth checking out. I also ordered a Michelada here and it was okay. Not enough kick, but refreshing. We ordered Guac and Chips, and a ceviche to start. The guacamole was really fresh and I loved the addition of the pomegranate seeds — nice burst of mild flavor. The ceviche was unimpressive and lacked the limey flavor and probably some salt as well. We both ordered tacos — fish and carne asada taco plates — and the tacos were just okay. Everything was bland and lacked flavor and authenticity. There was no excitement in the food, and everything tasted like it was missing something. The bill came out at the end, and we spent a pretttyyy penny at Mas Malo. For expensive Mexican food, we were underwelmed and underimpressed. Danny’s taco truck across the street has better tacos for a ridiculous fraction of the price. I would suggest coming for HH to take advantage of their low(er) prices, and try their drinks!
