Worst experience of my life, nothing but disdain and contempt from the small rat-like man who calls himself the owner. Would not recommend.

Gallery 825 is a non-profit co-op art gallery for emerging contemporary artists. What you’ll find here are unique and unusual paintings, sculptures, photos, mixed media, video, and other art created by emerging artists in the greater Los Angeles area. The staff are cool, friendly, and knowledgeable. In some ways it feels more like a museum than a commercial gallery. The gallery managers know all the artists and are cool about explaining what they can. The overall vibe is friendly, not snooty, and that’s really nice. Because the artwork tends to leans contemporary, what you’ll see here are things that resemble works that show at MOCA, and at LACMAs contemporary wing. It’s work that makes you stop in your tracks and think, feel, and use your intuition. The styles, formats, and content of the art celebrate experimentation and discovery. Also, as is common with emerging artists, you see a lot of work that is very personal. The big thing is — this stuff is cool and unique. No one will think you shopped at a some cr*ppy mall gallery. Original art can be pricey sometimes, but because these are emerging artists, the prices aren’t as ginormous as the big name galleries. My impression is that sometimes the artists are actually taking a loss, just to get work out there. There’s a little bit of parking in back, and some street parking on La Cienega. A lot of times I valet with one of the nearby restaurants, and then grab a bite to eat too. The gallery is a cool place to walk through just to see stuff, and sometimes there are things you can’t leave without.
