I have visited Joan’s twice now. Their southwest salad was delicious. And their chocolate cupcake left me in tears. I ate it on the way home and was tempted to turn around for another. Great atmosphere for a foodie adventure. Always busy and loud though.

Ugh so torn on how to rate this place! I adore the ambience, essence, and quality of this place! Perfect spot to grab picnic foods of the finest meats, cheeses and ready foods! Only cons are: wayyyyy too expensive! Like above and beyond uncomfortably!!! Small portions and up charged for everything! Not so accommodating or flexible to dine in orders… And not the best service. However the smoked salmon is some of the best I have had, lattes great, and comes off very NYC… Maybe one day they can get more stars for me in the other aspects…

I had bookmarked Joan’s on Third ages ago and finally had a couple of free hours in LA. It’s a bakery, sit-down café, and food purveyor on 3rd St. It definitely has a French vibe, it’s almost like a stage set. Cute, but how’s the food? I had no idea what to order or how, so I just wandered around observing. I decided against a meal after perusing the menu and it was only 11am. So, you order at a counter where the bakery is. You pay and they give you a number, which you proceed to place on your table in a little stand. I think the fun part here is sitting outside at the little tables and people-watching. It was a lovely sunny day and I dug into my LSAT study book and somehow the setting was so delightful I enjoyed myself. Nearby was an aging European gigolo being propositioned by a movie mogul and to my right a frustrated screenwriter. A blonde trophy wife was at the front. Perfect LA. I had ordered a cappuccino and French muffin, which is basically a giant plain muffin sprinkled with nutmeg sugar and cinnamon. It was tasty and golden brown, and since I’m a muffin top eater only, it was nice. But I was thinking«$ 4? I made a dozen of these from my Betty Crocker cookbook for about the same price.» But, of course, my muffins weren’t as good! The cappuccino was delivered in a few minutes. It was not hot, but oh well. It’s caffeine. If it was hot it would have been perfect. Major props to the waiter who never nudged me as I sat in prime real estate for over an hour. I will definitely return to try their lunch and/or breakfast menu. On a sunny, perfect LA day, this is a delightful place to put up your feet and enjoy life. And overhear some very interesting conversations!

This place is about as good as it gets for a deli/café. The food is super fresh and some of the best I have ever had. One of my favorite things here is their carrot cake as it is to die for. Their sandwiches and other lunch items are very good as well. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

Ambiance is amazing, right in downtown with beautiful seating inside and outside. The food is a little pricey but it is delicious and filling, I had the turkey sandwich on whole wheat. It also had a little market inside as well as an espresso bar and ice cream bar. I had a Nonfat vanilla latte as well and it was super. Definitely will return here for meals after work or on my lunch break!

Got the roasted carrots and albacore tuna salad to go :) it was yummy but know that everything is cold and is served cold. They don’t heat anything up in the window section although they do have delicious food, warm and cold, to order off their menu. The place is very expensive but it’s the experience food and ambience you are paying for. There aren’t many places like it. It’s a market/restaurant of sorts and they put it all together in a great way that makes you excited to go and participate in the style that they want to exude. Go and enjoy their food because it’s good. The grilled cheese short rib with make you drool uncontrollably. Sit inside or out they’re both great vibes. Find a meter or free street parking… it’s not always easy depending on the time of day but don’t let it stop you from eating. Xx

Where did the customer service go? When breakfast for a family of four costs 80 dollars not including tip, you would expect that when you asked for cream for a 5 dollar coffee that someone would bring it with a smile. Not at Joan’s anymore. The bacon was cold and overlooked when delivered. The breakfast sandwich was good but nothing else but the sandwich on the plate. Bagel and smoked salmon was great and pancakes were great. The two is for attitude and service. Asked for cream and was told to go stand in line. Five minutes later still no cream and the coffee was cold. Water was like being in the Sahara and trying to get some. I honestly used to love this place. Either Joan retired or they grew to big for their britches but unless they deal with service, no reason to go back. Too many better places that have table service and are less expensive nearby.

First time at Joan’s today. I went for brunch and it was quite crowded, but the staff did a good job of accommodating table requests. I tried the short rib sandwich and Chinese chicken salad, both of which were tasty, but did seem a little overpriced. The fried chicken on the salad was a bit tough and dry. The short rib sandwich was stuffed full of tender, delicious meat and the pickles that came as a side were a great complement. While the food was pretty good, the customer service I received at the register was horrible, bizarre, and enough to make me consider not coming back. I was waiting in line to place my order behind two middle aged men. When it was their turn, these two men went up to the register, seemingly placed their orders, and then walked away. Watching them leave, I stepped up to the counter and was immediately met with aggressive shouts of «No no no no!» from the cashier, as if I was a misbehaving animal, and wild arm waving and beeping noises from one of the men who had just walked away, now coming back to the counter. Bewildered, I stepped back from the counter back into line and waited for the beeping man to resume his conversation with the cashier. After the two were finished speaking, the beeping man again walked away from the counter and the cashier told me to step up to the counter. I began placing my order and again the cashier said«No no! Stop!» Even more confused now, I gave him a puzzled look and he said«I’m not ready!» I asked if I should step back into the line, to which he responded, «No. I called you up. But I’m not ready.» After he was ready and took my order, he offered up a non-apology of «that man in front of you was the owner» as if to explain both his and the other man’s bizarre and rude behavior. Somehow, this explanation made the entire situation even more confusing and disappointing; a restaurant owner and his employee both being rude and unfriendly to customers seems like the antithesis to running a successful business. So, while the food was pretty good, I’m not sure I’ll want to risk another strange and mildly upsetting staff interaction at Joan’s.

The food was not bad, but also nothing special and definitely not worth the price. I’m not sure if I would want to come back here. I had the short rib sandwich and the caesar salad with chicken. I will break this review into pros and cons. PROs: — The meat in the sandwich was delicious. — I liked the cheese in the sandwich. — Nice atmosphere. A little ritzy, but still a nice café. CONs: — The sandwich was not well formed. The amount of meat used was cheap, and what little meat I had was not spread out. So I had a few bites that were only meat and many, many bites of just cheese. — The caesar salad had way, way too much cheese in it. It ruined the whole salad. — The chicken in the salad was mediocre. Really dry. — The tables are all dirty and the people working here were really reluctant to wipe a table for me. — Spending over $ 30 for a salad and sandwich is a lot of money. For that price, I expect much better quality. And it did not meet up to that. In conclusion: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

From the(limited) seating area under the black awning outside to the blocks of cheeses displayed right at the entrance, Joans on Third exudes a very Parisian ambience. It’s a store as well as a café so you can shop around while you wait for your order. I had a Roasted Chicken sandwich glazed in maple syrup. It was really good. My latte was alright. But definitely check it out for a good Sunday brunch! The service is pretty good and the staff is really friendly. However, be ready to scout for street parking.

Overall, really tasty food, great service, and a beautiful location! Joan’s is a really huge spot, with plenty of seating plus huge deli, cheese, and coffee sections. It can be a little confusing, since there are so many people inside and multiple counters to order at. I do wish you could see more of the deli selection on the menu or something, since the counter I ordered at didn’t showcase the daily specials. I ordered the chop salad(so good, but a little heavy on dressing) Turkey club(perfect bread choice, very fresh!) A latte(realllyyyyy tasty! And great presentation) I would definitely come back and try more menu items! If it wasn’t so packed, it’d be a great place to hang out over a cup of coffee.

I’ve wanted to try this place for a while now and I’m so glad I finally did! I heard it gets pretty crowded on the weekends so my friend and I decided to come on a weekday around 2pm and there was still a good amount of people. This place would be great for a casual catch-up brunch with a friend or two(guy or girl). The inside area is sort of like a market place – snacks, pastries, drinks, pre-made salads, etc. You can also order from the menu. My friend and I both got the most-talked-about short rib sandwich and we loved it! However, we were quite surprised because the size of the sandwich was smaller than we expected. So if you have a medium to large appetite I would suggest getting a drink or a small side to go with the sandwich – which is perfect because this place serves a wide variety of delicious sides and extra snacks/drinks! Parking is street parking.

With all the buzz around this place, my friend and I decided to grab a quick lunch during our day trip in LA. Parking was a nightmare but it didn’t ruin our experience. It felt a bit stuffy walking in but we attributed this to the crowd. For a Saturday afternoon, it wasn’t as hectic as I thought it would be. My friend and I were still able to find a seat inside but opted for a little al fresco experience instead. I was originally going to order the Caesar Salad but figured I should try something different. I noticed that their Chinese Chicken Salad was listed as a favorite, so I went ahead and ordered that. It was DELICIOUS. Refreshing, savory, and tangy — a perfect amalgamation. It was nice and light but still filling all at once. Serving size is generous for one; you can split it between two people for a personal salad. I’d return just for this salad alone in spite of the heinous parking situation on that block.

Came for brunch. I like how, unlike any other places in the area, it’s a marketplace, making it easy to order and not too difficult to find somewhere to sit. It was awkward though when our food was ready while we were still waiting for a table. I have never seen my food come so close to me but then taken away until we have seats.(Supposedly, Joan remade my friends omelet because we had to wait for seats and felt sorry) There is a lot to choose from, from the open market with ready foods, cheese, chocolate, dessert, ice cream… all you temptations in one spot! I do think, however, it is a little pricey in general for what they deliver. And they charge for even the slightest things… a cup of hot water for $ 1.75 is kind of ridiculous given it is free basically everywhere else. I wasn’t too hypnotized by this place as others seem, but I also didn’t order a sandwich which seems to be what everyone else recommends. I’ve let you down Unilocalers.

I’ve been wanting to try Joan’s on Third for years and I’m so excited I finally got a chance to check it out! It definitely lives up to the hype it’s gained over the years, with everything from the food to the décor and atmosphere being amazing across the board. Joan’s on Third is a cute little café that also serves as a deli/mini marketplace. I came here for lunch and I have to say I was pleasantly overwhelmed with all of the options they had. From salads and sandwiches to warm dishes and a la carte items, they literally have something for everyone. I like that a majority of their options are actually healthy, but there’s also a mix of tasty savory sides like the mac and cheese. They also have an area with fresh cheeses, packaged sweets, and a café serving up delicious desserts and pastries. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which was probably one of the best I’ve ever had. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly, and the bread was nice and soft and fresh. I also ordered a side of the deli cous cous salad with cranberries, which was surprisingly flavorful considering that cous cous can tend to get a little dry and tasteless. I also tried a bite of my friend’s short rib sandwich which was amazing! The melted jack cheese was a great, touch and I loved the sweet barbecue sauce. Overall, I had a great experience at Joan’s on Third! I highly recommend trying it out if you haven’t already. I’m disappointed in myself for not coming here before I moved out of LA, but I will definitely be back next time I’m in town!

I’d definitely review this awesome restaurant a 5-start without any consideration. Lol Friday I’m gonna have a stunning lunch date with my sweet friend. We hadn’t met for a while. Thus, we decided a quite famous restaurant to spend the great time. As soon as I arrived the restaurant, I got a parking space just right in front of the restaurant’s door. I’d assume it’s a lucky symbol.(There were lots parking along the road, so you wouldn’t need to wait for too long.) When I got into the restaurant, I really fell in love with this lovely restaurant. The way they arranged their items were just so fine. I love it! You could feel like home — casual and cozy. They didn’t have any certain table only for you. You needed to find it by yourself. Some people would try to look for the seat after ordering, but I would suggest get a seat before going to order just in case of no space to enjoy your meal There were two windows for the counters; the right one was for take-out, and the left one was for eating inside. We went the to left line of ordering. When you waited for line, they provided some their own merchandise for you to shop. And the sweet thing was that, if you decide to order the meal with side dishes chose by your own, you could just choose by now — during the waiting time. Because they set the well-done foods’ refrigerator right in front of you. So when it’s your turn to order, you will be very ready! Hahaha Today I chose my favorite Egg Benedict and my friends ordered the short-rib sandwich and their most famous meal — Chinese chicken salad. Besides, we also ordered the orange and grape juices for drinks. After you paid for the meals, they would give you a number. It’s the number for the waiter to recognize you and serve your meals. We didn’t wait too long for our foods, especially for the drinks, they gave us our drinks almost as soon as we sat down. We were all starving and couldn’t wait to start eating! For my Egg Benedict, I could say nothing but but perfect When I cute the egg yolk, it’s just exactly like what I thought. The eggs all burst out with egg yolks which was my favorite’s reason. My friends also loved their foods, they agreed the foods were just made by perfect. We really had a great time today. Not only the tasty foods but the also the restaurant’s environment and atmosphere. We’d absolutely recommend you come and spend a unforgettable day here. I knew you wouldn’t have regretted!

I’ve only heard nothing but good things about Joan’s so I was excited to try it for myself! The wait at 12:30 on a Sunday was not bad at all. My friend and I miraculously found parking and a table for 2 right after we ordered! I loved the vibes of the place and it was a gorgeous day to eat outside and enjoy the people watching and food. Short Rib Sandwich: I definitely fell in love with this sandwich! It’s so simple yet so incredibly delicious. The short rib is really tender and flavorful. I was worried it might be a little salty, but it was perfect. The rest of the sandwich was basically just cheese and red onions, which were so good together! I would definitely recommend this and now I know why people come for this sandwich! Definitely would love to come back and try other stuff here! Everything looks great and I love that it’s a little marketplace!

Magical sandwich shop in LA. Brother took me here for lunch as I was visiting and couldn’t be happier with the food. The quality of the sandwiches were amazing and to think, this was one of the best or at least top 5 sandwich places I have been too. Joan on 3rd was definitely good and highly recommended. Lunch rush was crazy though, it died down a bit at 12:33pm. With that, the wait was pretty long… about 10 – 15 minutes. There are two lines, left side was probably shorter than the right. Chicken, bacon and brie is one of the best sandwich selections I had. Great flavors in the entire sandwich itself. Chicken was flavorful, with a hint of crispy bacon added great texture and the brie was rich! Overall, I really digged this sandwich, everything came together. Short rib sandwich was a great choice too! the meat was rich in flavor, kind of salty though… eating a whole short rib sandwich would definitely put you to sleep. Overall, my experience here was great! well worth the wait in my opinion. They also serve other types of food not just sandwiches!

Where all the trendsetters go for a quick lunch. Joans doesn’t only look great with gorgeous people but the food is uh-mazing. I would recommend : The Chinese chicken salad. It’s so crispy and satisfying. However don’t be fooled there is like an insane number of calories in this. It is no where near to being healthy I would also highly recommend the friend chicken sandwich it’s so buttery with the sauce they put in the sandwich and the crunch coleslaw in there is perfection Their egg salad sandwich is my favorite egg salad in LA. It’s just a simple egg salad creamy and a bit tangy. I love eating it with their side pickles. Yummmm
