Best burrito EVER. When I first visit, i didn’t expected much from the burrito since burrito isn’t my favorite food. But after seeing the review on the Unilocal,I decide to give a try, and it turns out to be a great decision to make.

I promised myself that I wouldn’t visit the same restaurant in Los Angles more than once, as I am new to the area and there is so much to explore. However, I’ve now been to Doughboys three times and every time I leave wanting to return. The portions are huge, the prices reasonable for the fact that you will most likely get two meals from every plate and the service good. The best part — the food! I highly recommend the soups — the garlic is to die for and the stracciatella is amazing. I’ve tried the veggie burger, some bites of my friends’ salads and all were delicious. Highly recommend Doughboys Café & Bakery!

I’ll start out with the positive notes since they outnumber the negative comments. Came here on a Sunday, pretty busy. The food is delicious. Really amazing. I got the red velvet pancakes. There were so many other things on this menu that I wanted to try, but I wasn’t in a total pig mode so I kept it to one dish. Ok, some negative notes: expect«hipster service» here, meaning waiting for everything. I asked 3 times for water. The waitress was either an airhead or just totally out there. Had to wait forever to be seated too, but there were plenty of tables and no one else in line. Umm? Whatever, the pancakes cancel out the service.

My husband, kids, and I went down to LA for Free Museum Day a couple weeks ago and decided to stopped here and get breakfast because the museum wasn’t open yet and because of the Unilocal reviews. The inside was nice and relaxing, which was good for us because our eldest child has sensory issues and does not like loud noises or bright lights. We got seated immediately, but then saw afterwards that there was a long line out of the door. So, we got lucky and missed the rush! Food: Well, it did not disappoint! I got a cup of camomile tea and the PBC + B to share with my daughter and husband got one of their omelettes to share with our son and a cup of earl grey. The tea hit the spot for us. Exactly what we need on that cold, rainy, blustery Sunday. The FOODWASAMAZING. The PBC + B was warm, gooey, tasty, and yet, not that sweet. Which was awesome because my kids don’t have such a big sweet tooth. From what my husband tells me, his food was delicious and from the looks of it, he loved it. I ordered one of the famous velvet cakes to take home, and let’s just say that it didn’t make it home. Enough to said.

The food is incredible here. Great brunch spot on the weekend. Amazing burritos and coffee. Only let down is the hostess always giving us an estimate way off from how long it actually takes to get seated. I’d rather be told an hour and get in after 45 then be told 25 and stand around for an extra 20 minutes. Not the best start to any dining experience, but when you finally get seated it’s worth it.

My friend and I had brunch here a few weeks ago. The food was excellent, a solid 4. I had the Pumpkin Griddlecakes, which were AMAZING. So, so good! Fluffy, not too sweet, and that whipped cream cheese butter-like topping was so tasty, I didn’t even need syrup. Coffee was great as well. The eggs, eh, they were eggs. Hard to really screw those up. The place had a nice ambience, very warm and cozy, but be prepared — it is TINY. We were lucky to get there at a good time and only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but there was quite a line by about 10am. Being a small place, I wouldn’t recommend coming here with a large group, maybe 1 – 2 friends. And make sure they’re friends you like to talk to, because it takes foooorrrrreeevvvveeerr to get your food. Like I said, not a big place, and they had plenty of waitstaff for the number of tables, but it took almost an hour to get our food after we placed our order. The server also forgot to bring my friend water. But we were having a nice long chat and we never felt like he was rushing us, nor did he ever hint or make any signs to try to get us to leave. Bonus points for that! And when it came time to get the check, he brought it to us in about half a second, which was rather amusing considering everything else took so long! So, come here with a small party of 2 – 3 people max, don’t be in a rush, don’t expect the best service in the world, and do enjoy an excellent meal. As long as you come with that mindset, you’ll have the right experience. I would come here again, if only for the griddlecakes!

Doughboys! I love thee. When I look at their breakfast options, I basically want everything off the griddle. I’m talking: + PBC& B(pb chocolate & banana) + Pan toast(cinnamon rolls meets croissants) + Almond crusted strawberry french toast + Stuffed french toast + Red velvet pancakes Umm, can I say YUMYUMYUM?! There are many savory options to devour as well if sweet things aren’t your thing. Until I’m back in LA to try this amazingness once more, I’ll just be waiting for you to open up a shop here in DC…

Hands down one of the best eateries in Los Angeles. I’ve been a patron for nearly a decade and the prices remain consistent just like the sublime food. The portions are huge, the scrambles, pancakes salads and soups are among the best this city has to offer. Service is always prompt and seating plentiful except on brunch weekends. For Thanksgiving I enjoyed the most robust meal for four. Thank you, Doughboys for maintaining your stellar reputation for fine food, service, value and high standards! Yummmmmm!

Best eggs Benedict hands down! The food is delicious and reasonably priced. I loved loved loved this place. We tried the breakfast pizza and red velvet pancakes and couldn’t be happier with all the orders. The service is great and the coffee is delicious. It is a real small place so I can only imagine how crowded it gets in the weekends.

I ordered here two times from Eat 24. Both times they forgot something that I requested in the order. The first time I did say something and they refunded the money. I still give good stars because I really enjoy the French Dip. The cheese came melted very nicely and the bread was just perfect. Also I had some kind of Asian salad that was pretty tasty and filling. The coffee wasn’t for me. Once I had iced coffee and the next time a latte. They tasted so bad I couldn’t even drink them. Would I order again yes based off of the food.

Wow! The food is terrible here. Friday night and the place is but empty. I used to eat at Doughboy’s many years ago. They were one of the tastiest places on 3rd. The Ellen show featured their red velvet cake and the place just got out of control busy. But it was worth it. The super bad, rude service from the aspiring actors waiting the tables was all made better by the amazing food. They closed and their famous red velvet cake was available for purchase at The Corner on La Brea for a while and it was the exact same fabulous red velvet that was served at the restaurant. I found out they had reopened and went straight for my favorites: the French onion soup was this delicious clear beautiful beef/lamb broth with plenty onions and an amazing round croûton floating on top with melted cheese. Now… you get onion soup porridge. Thick, thick, thick porridge that tastes of flour and salt with onions. The sandwiches have the same names but they are NOT what they use to be which is what you are led to believe. The worst was the potatoes they served me. Burnt potatoes. Literally burnt! How in the world do you allow food like that to exit your kitchen and make its way to a paying customers hand. Totally unacceptable. The service just as bad. Last but not least… The famous red velvet cake. Not the same either. You might as well go buy a bag of sugar and eat it straight from the bag. The cake is moist but so sweet I couldn’t get past one spoonful. There was no cocoa flavor. I can go on but what’s the point… I’m never going to eat there again. If you remember the food from before, you know what I’m talking about. Bad food and bad service. Not a good combo.

My bf was searching for a new breakfast place that was open at 7am so he could make his 10am flight. This happened to be one of the only places open. So, we got here at 7 on a Sunday morning. It looked like the staff had just arrived maybe 10 minutes before, but they were still setting up. It took an additional 15 minutes for them to keep setting up before we could sit down inside. They took our order, and it took forever for us to get our food. I got this dish called the Red Flannel Hash. It was interesting because they put these unique ingredients in the hash, such as beets, braised beef, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions and over easy eggs on top. I don’t think I’ve ever had a hash with beets in it before! It was different, but I think I just wanted a staple breakfast item that morning. That being said, it was huge, and I was able to take it home for a second meal. I was a little disappointed when it came, because although the eggs were hot, the hash was just luke warm. I mean, it already took ~15−20 mins for them to make our breakfast. Why was it only warm? How long was it sitting there for? I thought the ambiance was really cute here. It was one of those lazy cafes that you want to bring your laptop, sip a cup of coffee at, and listen to Jack Johnson(which they were playing) on a Sunday afternoon. But, I probably won’t come back, but maybe just for a beverage or dessert. Breakfast was nothing special.

Mmmmmm. Thank you again Unilocal for another delicious place to eat! We arrived at 10:15 seated by 10:30 order taken 10:40 meal arrived at 11:00. Was it busy, yes but I feel they did a great job. It’s a tight squeeze inside, not very big at all. They know how to really pack us in there. As long as you don’t have to get up all the time and move around you’ll be fine. Just stay seated! lol. Our server was nice, a little distracted but it is what it is on a busy Sunday morning. I noticed that larger parties had to wait quite a bit longer for tables and for their food. So if that’s you eat a banana before you come so you don’t get hangry. I got the Earl of Benedict(Eggs Benedict) So dang good! I prefer the ham to be a thick slice and theirs was a few thin slices. Kind of like lunch meat. The hollandaise was good, great flavor. I didn’t need to salt it or anything. It came with potatoes and a salad. The salad was weird, I could have done without it. I mean, who wants a salad with their breakfast? Wait– is that something fancy people do? :) They had a beautiful display of baked goods that my mouth wanted to make love to but I didn’t get anything. I’d go back.

Please do yourself a favor and come here! At any time. They are wonderful. Derrick the manager is great and so helpful! He spent a while at our table answering our questions and telling us what he liked and we didn’t even know he was the manager. He really helped us pick the best things for brunch that will definitely have us coming back for more… Often. Their red velvet everything truly is incredible. You really can’t go wrong. Fernando also helped so much and even boxed up our cake for us. The coffee isn’t my favorite, Id say go for the actual latte. Otherwise everything was the bomb!!! Literally. Come here.

The southern corn pudding special is a must try. Sweet, creamy, cheesy corn pudding is paired unconventionally yet successfully with pulled pork hash, grilled onions, corn, and potatoes. The whole thing is topped with two griddle fried eggs and broiled in a cast iron skillet. I got the eggs over easy in order to mix the yolky goodness all together. The result was an orgasm in my mouth. It’s the best corn pudding I have ever had. I wish I could capture the sweetness in a bottle. It’s a beautiful dish that is both hearty and flavorful. Bravo, Doughboys! Another must try is the famous red velvet cake. It’s worth a try even if you’re not really a dessert person(which I am not). Desserts are usually too sweet for me and overwhelm me. Even I enjoyed this light, yet luscious, tasty pastry. This is the perfect level of sweetness without being overpowering. The presentation is gorgeous as well as the flavors. Doughboys can’t miss! Doughboys has an extensive breakfast and dinner menu. I’ve also had the salmon eggs Benedict, which was decent. I will gladly return to try other menu items, or, I might just have to stick with the corn pudding special! Enjoy.

We came here on a sunday afternoon for lunch. We got seated on the patio because we brought along our fluffy pom pom. There was a group of three women seated on the table to my right that came in a little bit before us. We ordered the sloppy joe and the basil chicken salad. We then proceeded to wait. And wait… and wait… Finally after a really Long time, the table to the right finally got their food and I guess the food sucked because the manager was soon called to their table. I couldn’t help but eavesdrop as they were literally right next to me. I could hear every word. The three women proceeded to tell the manager that they refuse to pay for their lunch because service sucked, they waited an hour for the food and on top of that the orders got messed up. They were brought out some wrong items. By this time, we had been already waiting an hour for our food as well. ANHOUR!!! We asked the server what the hell is taking so long. He apologizes. We understand as it’s not the servers fault that the restaurant is being run so POORLY. We tell him that since we are waiting soooo long, this food better be one heck of a lunch. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. Their food is eh and the cooks need to get it together. The server felt bad and gave us a red velvet cake. Their red velvet cake is the only thing that redeems them. I guess they’re at least good in pastry and dessert.

Items Selected: Coffee Creamy Polenta with brown sugar, strawberries, figs, nuts Malted Cornmeal Pancakes with Cherry Compote Red Velvet Pancakes with Cream Cheese Icing Pan Toast — cinnamon rolls and croissants soaked in custard and fried, with strawberries and strawberry syrup First visited many years ago, in a larger location far from the cozy confines of 8146 West 3rd, it was with all but one member of the previous crew that breakfast was enjoyed at Doughboys Café & Bakery, the sweets retaining the high quality remembered from Rice Krispy Treats Pancakes and Red Velvet Cake though«Creamy Polenta» was actually clumpy with flavor trending quite bland. Tightly spaced, but comfortable on a Monday morning with several folks populating the outdoor patio as only one other table was occupied inside, it was expectedly to very attentive service that our booth was treated throughout the meal and although eschewing pastries due to subsequent planned dining the case up front did look quite delectable, the ‘world famous’ red velvet now joined by cookies, brownies, bars, and scones ranging from savory to sweet. Offering a take-away counter that never saw business during the course of our hour long stay it was with bold coffee in hand that approximately fifteen minutes passed before all four plates were delivered, the housemade compotes and infused syrups requested in order to avoid the Log Cabin bottle seen sitting on a white kitchen shelf. Going part savory, though everything served was eventually dressed in sugar or syrup, first bites of the enormous bowl of cornmeal proved rather uninspiring though the fruit was quite fresh, a far better bite found amidst toothsome malted cornbread fried up like a pancake, the cherry compote used on one half while melted butter and honey was drizzled atop the rest. Onward to dessert-type-breakfasts, no stop at Doughboys complete without sampling something dyed bright red, the flavor of the restaurant’s signature item was replicated spot-on by a fluffy stack of pancakes, the«Pan Toast» crisp on the exterior with a soft-set center not unlike bread pudding, a topping of strawberries both whole and extracted complimenting notes of cinnamon without overwhelming the mellow custard base.

Holy crap! The cookies here are AMAZING! We decided to take an über here from Bao dim sum a block away and get some desert items from somewhere else, I found this place and we got a slice of red velvet cake and a white chocolate chip cookie, OMG! The red velvet was good, but the cookie was the BOMB! Anytime I’m here in the area, I always get cookies from here to take home, they are huge too! I love eating their cookies with milk, if you are in the area and want a cookie, come here! Best cookies I ever had! The red velvet cake was delicious too! Not too sweet, best red velvet we had in this area. Come here for good desert options :) parking on melrose is bad as usual though. So if you are around, take an über or walk here, much easier

This year’s Pageant trip found us visiting Doughboy’s Café for our LA Brunch. Any place that touts a «world famous» red velvet cake & plethora of pancake offerings is tops on my list so happenstance brought us here early Saturday morning… no line — score! Mr ordered the Veggie Benedict & he loved the spinach that came w/the mix — there was still a bit of chew in the leafy greens & he said there was absolutely no earthiness that often goes w/this veggie that tops my bleck-list. I tried the egg & mushroom part of the dish & have to admit it was awful tasty! But as usual, my heart was drawn toward the sweet breakfasts which meant pancakes & my choice du jour was the Pumpkin Griddle Cakes These were not like any other pumpkin pancakes I’ve tasted… there were no pumpkin pie spices — or any other spices for that matter. They let the pumpkin do all the talking — just like it said on the menu, w/a huge dollop of cream cheese on top, this was a not-so-sweet but just sweet enough fix for my pancake House coffees were a miss — extremely bitter, even with the abundance of cream we added — but I imagine this would be a perfect pairing & exceptional balancing w/their red velvet cake Way too stuffed but weren’t about to leave w/out 1 of their red velvet cakes — which they must plan for b/c there were thousands in their case, all ready to come home w/us. Have to say it was pretty okay… but Nothing But Bundt Cakes does it better. The red velvet here was a smooth cake w/a very sweet cream cheese frosting & I prefer the choc chips that Bundt Cakes includes in their offering which gives it a nicer texture & added flavor layer But c’est la vie, right?! I tried it, I liked it… just like someone else’s better. But even so, it’s not enough to take away the well-deserved, full-on 5-Stars. That was 1 scrumptious breakfast & can’t wait to come back & try more pancake flavor concoctions!

My review: I love this place! I am a huge fan of breakfast, so my breakfast loving partner in crime and I had breakfast for lunch. We had the waffle stack(sub chicken sausage for the ham) and the chicken sausage scramble. O.M.G. AMAZING! I don’t eat pork, so it was a treat for me to be able to have the chicken sausage since they have it specially made for them without pork! I have a huge sweet tooth, but these savory dishes more than made up for the lack of a sweet dish. We were too stuffed to try their famous red velvet cake, but there’s always next time! Thanks to Jude, our awesome server, who was incredibly attentive. A must try. Don’t wait — go now!
