This review is for the buffet only. I really enjoyed their selection of entrees, and the man who was working that day was able to tell me exactly what did and did not have gluten. They had a ton of pakora and it was wonderful. Their green chutney was tasty and I really liked the chicken tikka masala I had. The price was very good, especially for the selection. I will definitely go back for more sometime when I am in LA and the craving for Indian food strikes.

Shitty. Chicken was overcooked. Their rice is meh. And their service sucks upon checking out they tried to renege on their Unilocal offer. There is better quality Indian food out there. Better service too. 1 star.

Order the vegetable korma, it’s the best! Quick service, delicious food, wonderful server… a great place for Indian in LA. Tandoori thali with lamb tikka was also great, but the korma is definitely the star of the show.

Dined here tonight, with my family. Family friendly, sufficiently quiet, pleasant ambiance. Asshu. the young man in one of the customer photos tended to us: very attentive and patient. The saag paneer is AMAZING. We’ve been to the best Indian restaurants in the Southbay and in Little India– none of them understand«MILD, MILD, very mild, no chili” – every single one of has brought back a dish too spicy for me, EXCEPT Gate of India! They get it right. Their SAAGPANEER was unbelievably delicious and it wasn’t hot(just like I ordered it). The different types of naan: perfect. Chicken tikka, paneer tikka and curry lamb were all excellent. The Chai was also very good. Mango lassis were perfect. Parking was excellent(it’s in a strip mall and we parked in the lot. We’re going back to try their buffet– there are lots of vegetarian and vegan items. Highly recommend. We were a party of five and everyone left happy. Reasonable prices.

This was my go to place for Indian food. It used to be really good, and I just discovered that I liked Indian food. Sadly I order from here at least once a week.(I need to learn how to cook). For the last couple of months, the orders took over the«expected» delivery time. I never really complained too much because I just was too hungry and had my food already at that point. But tonight, The expected time was 1 hour, at 1 ½ I messaged EAT24, Sara called the restaurant and was told 15 – 20 more minutes. Again sadly I waited, strike it up to a hard work week and sheer starvation at that point. After another 20 minutes I messaged EAT24 again, and Keith helped me this time. He said he’d check and he called. The restaurant told them it would be 15 – 20 min AGAIN! And when he questioned it they rudely hung up on him. I get that it’s Friday but there’s no reason to be horribly mean when you’re at fault. I can find Indian food elsewhere and I will. Thanks Keith and Sara for your help! Fingers crossed my milk isn’t expired so I can have some cereal :)! NEVERAGAINGATEOFINDIA!!! I WISH I COULDHAVEGIVENZEROSTARSFORTHEHORRIBLEWAYYOUTREATYOURREGULARCUSTOMERS!

We were looking for a yummy new vegetarian dinner Spor for my daughters 7 days to 18th birthday. We drove up and down Sunset and in a mini strip mall was a crowded restaurant. We parked, took a table and ate all night. The food was yummy and the service lovely. We will be back!

This is my favorite Indian Restaurant in Los Angeles. I’ve been coming here for years. Their vegetable korma is to die for. I noticed that they have added a wonderful key to their menu coding which dishes are vegetarian and gluten free. It’s incredibly helpful since I am not supposed to have gluten. The customer service is top notch. The ambiance is nice and I always bop my head to the music after a few minutes.

This review is in reference to a delivery from Gate of India. I placed a delivery order with gate of india through Eat24(this was the first time I’ve ever eaten or ordered from this restaurant). They didn’t deliver a specific request for 2 sides of chutney. I mean how difficult is it to give someone chutney? That item was not on the menu as an option, so I opted to make a specific request for it in the notes of my online order. When I called the restaurant and mentioned something, the man on the other end said«you didn’t order it.» And I said«there wasn’t a menu option for it online, so I made a specific note for two sides of chutney in my delivery order.» His response was obviously annoying(thus my angry review), and he said«i’m sorry, mamn. Next time. Sorry.»(and promptly hung up) First of all, don’t call someone«mamn» until you know their age… i’m not 55 years old, thank you very much. Secondly, as I’m eating the food, I’m not actually impressed at all. It’s very standard run of the mill Indian. And thirdly, there won’t be a «next time.» Customer service is key, people.

my first choice for lunch! great food and nice people! Lunch buffet is amazing. I’m vegetarian and they have selection of about 8 veggie dishes in it. The nuns are very good. I’ve tried a dish from a regular menu once — it was veggie rice for 12 $, and I had to take half of the plate home which I normally wouldn’t do. It was tasty and big

Awful. How does this place have good reviews??? My first time and LAST. Bad food. Tasteless. Super OILY. It’s like bad wedding food you’d get in India. I grew up in India– and we all have different taste buds — but this place SUCKS. Everything is super oily. Even lentils. And even the meat dishes. I can only imagine the cheap oil they can afford to dump on everything. Zucchini dish has zucchini that wasn’t cooked all the way. The guy serving us had the WORSTATTITUDE. Forget making you feel welcome, he made us feel like he’d rather we didn’t done there. AWFUL.

The young owner came out and greeted us when we sat down. She told us they had just bought the place a few months ago and redecorated to make the place look more modern and comfortable. It was really nice of her to do that and made us feel welcome. We came here with a Living Social coupon, which is a great deal and includes 2 mango latkes. We also ordered a couple of curries, naan, and samosas for appetizers. The curries we ordered were chicken tikka masala and the goat curry. Along with rice, it put us slightly over the Living Social total amount, but not by much. They do have dinner combo specials available, but since we were 2 hungry guys we figured this would be the better way to go so we could share the much larger portions. I really enjoyed he chicken tikka masala, the sauce was very creamy and tasty. The chicken also comes very tender and has a yummy bbq tandoori sauce marinated in, so it’s tender and flavorful. The goat curry was good too, but the real winner was the chicken dish. Would heartily recommend it. The naan was excellent, which I generally love and this was no exception. Free parking up front, which they share with other shops. Being in the heart of Hollywood, that’s not something you want to take for granted either. There’s also metered parking on the street. Super nice service, though the food did take a little long to come out. But the quality of the food was excellent so I don’t hold that against them, just thought I’d mention it in case you’re looking for a quick eat & run type of place. They also do have a lunch buffet, which I might try if I’m in the area. I’ll probably re-purchase the Living Social though, because it’s an excellent value.

Awesome food, great service. The chicken Makhni I had was well balanced. Most other places in LA make it too sweet. Will come back

Ok I was surprised with the amount of food they have here — portion sizes are huge! We have had their chicken and lamb biryani here and its always enough for two meals and tastes great. They do tend to add raisin and cashew to the preparation but accommodated our request to refrain from doing so. We always do take out since we live so close but the place is always busy! Great food of the price, recommend trying it out and assure you, you will head back for more.

Don’t order delivery from here if you are actually hungry. I write this, as I sit in Fatburger waiting for my veggie burger, having learned the hard way… I called them earlier this evening and ordered some delicious vegetarian food, they said it would be 45 minutes. An hour and fifteen later, I call and before I can ask about where the heck the food is, I am put on hold forever. When the guy finally picks up, he informs me that it will be 10 more minutes. Okaaaaay! 25 minutes later, I get a call from someone saying they are outside. Ok then, well come on up! Nope. I walk outside and the guy is waiting in his car for ME. Wtf. I am hangry and about to slap someone at this point. I relax and walk back to my place. «Calm down», I say. «The wait is over», I say. I finally sit down and open the bag… And it’s f@&!ng chicken tikka masala. I am still waiting for the delivery driver to show up and give me my money back. We will see if he shows up… Edit: So he never showed up. I called, about 3 hours later and the driver yelled at me «hey I’m busy! Go to the restaurant tomorrow!» The next day, I collect my money. They ask if I want free food… uh…NAH!!!

I LOVE Indian food. LOVEIT. I’ve been taste testing Indian restaurants across the country for 21 years. Gate of India WAS the best there was. Then rumor had it that it got sold to the highest bidder and the new owners changed the recipes. I noticed a twinge of this in the beginning, but denied, denied. Why would ANYONE fiddle with the what is the measuring stick to all Indian food??? A few weeks ago I ordered my usual delivery through eat 24. The main dish wasn’t what I ordered so I checked the order with eat 24 and sure enough there was some dish I had never heard of in place of my usual(Paneer Tikka Masala instead of Paneer Korma). I gave benefit of the doubt and tried to chalk it up to me hitting the wrong button. The dish was not awesome. There was so much sugar in it, it might as well of been candy. The paneer was not its usual delicate self. It was pretty horrible.(Looking back, I’m left wondering if they are trying to pass tofu off as paneer.) I was pretty disappointed, but placed the blame on me hitting the wrong button, an off night for the paneer and tried to be grateful for the adventure of a new dish. Still, I had never had a curry so sweet and it left me wondering. Tonight I went to place my usual order again and tried to parooze(sp?) the menu. I noticed they had Chow Mein on the kids menu… what the hell? Since when did Indian restaurants serve chow Mein? And there was tofu? What the hell? Indian food has paneer, not tofu… and since when is there a kids menu at this restaurant? Have I really just not noticed that for 17 years???(Seriously, that’s how long I’ve been dining here.) I went to place my usual, Paneer Korma, and eat 24 sent me a notice that«the chef changed an item». Sure enough they tried to replace my korma with that horrible masala again. Click cancel on that and order chicken korma. How hard is it to put paneer in the curry instead of chicken? Eh, whatever. It’s still the best curry in town even if chicken is in it. Then it arrived. This lifeless, lack of true spirit and flavor curry. And the rice. I ordered basmati, but what I got was steamed Chinese white rice with no flavor, no depth, just shallow, bland whiteness. I told my husband in disbelief. He couldn’t fathom what I was saying and had to have it himself. We both paused and couldn’t express to one another the depth of disappointment and desire to cry for our loss. For EVERYONES loss. The rumors are true. The Gate of yesterday is no more. In its place is this Indian /Chinese hack of a restaurant. Those who think this is good food just don’t know… they just don’t know. Rest in Peace Gate of India. I will miss you to my heart’s end. And if anyone knows where the original owners are, please let me know. I have a plate and a credit card at the ready.

I’ve been ordering delivery and occasionally eating inside at Gate of India for nearly 8 years. They recently shut down and renovated, I know this because I wasn’t able to order delivery and live nearby. I’ve always thought their food was absolutely great. But last night’s delivery order seemed to come from another restaurant entirely. Even the condiments they include are now sub par. Whereas before they seemed fresh and made in house, these seemed they came from a jar. The green/hari chutney is now literally a liquid, come on! We ordered the vegetarian meal for 2 for delivery and the samosas seemed reheated and bland as did the saag tofu, aloo gobi and mixed vegetable curry. Whereas before their food was incredibly rich and seemed home-made this was simply ok in comparison. Definitely not fresh. Very sad to see them cutting costs like this. Again, not bad by any means but compared to what they used to serve, very disappointing. I expect more than fast-food level Indian(like urban massala for example) from a place like Gate of India.
