I ordered pupusas for pick up and was totally disappointed. To Start off I didn’t eat pupusas with beans and cheese I ate pupusas full of corn tortilla dough!.. it’s like they ran out of cheese and beans and literally gave me a teaspoon spread of beans and 4 shredded pieces of cheese… I basically didn’t eat pupusas I ate handmade corn tortillas. To add to the insult I ordered 8 pupusas and they only gave me two mini bags of watery tomato juice salsa and 2 mini bags of cabbage with Vinegar…(Para los dueños de el restaurante): Díganle alas tortilleras que no se pasen de tacañas y que se acuerden del concepto de cómo se aser las pupusas.

This place is insane. I went and it was PACKED. They somehow still managed to provide excellent service. The food — out of this world. I got two pupusas and an order of plantains and that was more than enough. The cabbage for the pupusas was so delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed eating cabbage with some salsa as much as I did that night.

El Baron… I really think you deserve 5 stars, but after coming in today just for a regular sized horchata and being charged $ 3.27 I had to deduct a star. I was in a rush and didn’t have time to ask, but the only way that I could make sense of such a random price is that the horchata is $ 2.99 plus a tax of 9.5%. The horchata is delicious but $ 2.99 is way too expensive for a cup that size and the tax rate should be 9% in this part of town. Anyway, the food here is delicious. You have your typical Salvadorean dishes as well as lots of Mexican items. Honestly, stick to the Salvadorean stuff as the cooks are all Salvadorean and better Mexican food can be had on the other side of town. Get the pupusas de arroz! They are DELICIOUS! The arroz pupusas are slightly lighter and have a little crunch to them. The revueltas are my favorite but they have many other fillings too. Parking is very difficult here on the weekends, especially on Sundays as there is a church right across the street.

I was really looking forward to this place after reading that it was one of the top 10 Salvadoran restaurants in LA. I excitedly brought my Mexican bf here to give him a taste of my culture. Since we couldn’t eat meat for Semana Santa, I ordered horchatas, 1 bean and cheese pupusa, 1 squash and cheese pupusa, camarones empanizados, platanos fritos w/beans and cream and empanadas de platano. The horchata was refreshing, but I’ve had better. I was expecting to be wowed, but the pupusas were a bit underwhelming. They were greasy and lacked flavor. Maybe the revueltas are better? Best thing: the curtido was just right. Bf loved the camarones empanizados. Ate it all up! The platanos fritos were on point. Brought me back to breakfasts with my grandparents in El Salvador. I am a huge lover of empanadas de platano. The leche inside has to be just the right amount of sweet and creamy, and you can’t skimp on it either. These were ok, the platano mixture lacked flavor and i could hardly taste the leche. :’( Overall the food was ok, but the service was excellent. The waitress attending us was very nice and helpful. I would return again to try out the breakfast dishes and some meat dishes when I get a chance.

It’s a hidden gem. Their fish tacos are really good. No oily tortillas so you can taste the freshness.

Ok lets just start with the pupusas they where ok not great but not bad, odered three, two revueltas and one bean and cheese, the bean and cheese was good and I would have to give them props on the cultido it was good and actually was a must in this occasion, since the revueltas needed flavor, I could not I repeat I could not for the life of me taste the pork at all, that was my disappointment, as well as the horchata, I can taste the tab water after taste on it. yuck…im still looking for the best pupusa place in town since I have not yet found it, also the pupusas are tad bit pricey for what they are, idk but when it comes to pupusas, you can’t just pick a place and eat some, doesn’t work that way unfortunately, it needs to have the wow factor or its crap… it is what it is

Hole in the wall with great food. Try the El Peperecho with the tortillas when you visit, you won’t regret it. Just fyi, it’s in a part of town where it’s pretty much gang ridden. I’d go during the day if I were you. Parking sucks there. There is a rear parking lot that probably holds 3 or 4 cars. If those are full, you’ve gotta find street parking. You also risk getting your car broken in to in this area.

Would’ve given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the cold salsa — call me picky but coming from a salvi native, I can only expect perfection. Ordered an atol de piña, El Baron platter and a pupusa de queso. The atol was pretty on point, and the pupusa was better than I’ve had in any other places in LA(so far), the platter was also tasty. It def made me reminisce of my days in El Salv eating casamiento y huevos picados con queso, crema y pan frances in the morning. Of course the queso and crema were not authentic(as in from El Salv, I always wonder why they cant just import them? at least the queso, lets be honest, you don’t easily find true salvi queso and crema around here. I guess it’s too expensive, but in my book that makes a world of a difference!). The pan frances was pretty on point for a bolillo, after all, the waitress did say it comes from a salvi bakery. The pupusa wasn’t overly stuffed like in other places, and the curtido and salsa were pretty good as well. I particularly enjoy my salsa warm, as they serve it in El Salv — where they keep fire under it as they make the pupusas so it stays nice n warm and when you pour salsa over the already cold curtido it warms it up, add the pupusa to all of that and you get a delicious bite of traditional salvi food. Of course nothing beats being in El Salvador to really enjoy salvi food, but this came close enough for me. I’ll definitely go back for more!

Went looking for some quick grub and found this little hole on the wall and thought I should give it a try. The«papusa» sign was enough to get my attention. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted in Spanish by two friendly ladies asking if we wanted to eat here out do take out. The employees did not speak a lick of English but are super friendly and as helpful as can be. Thankfully I understood enough to get by. Got the menu and instantly started get big eyes. Everything looked delicious and authentic. I ordered La Pepperecha and my friend ordered Sopa de Gallina. As promising as the menu liked, the food was lived up to my expectations. It was fancy but good hearty portions, tasty, and well prepared. There is so much more on the menu I’d like to try. Can’t wait to go back. Though this is Salvadoran food, it made up for the food I was hoping to have had found on my recent trip to South America(Panama). Yum!

Saw this on one recent top 10 pupusas place in LA. it’s very accessible since it’s in the city so I felt comfortable going in. parked around the corner, assumed it was cash and it was, so there was an ATM next door in the convenience store Went in, she probably didn’t think i spoke spanish but i am salvadorean so i ordered in spanish. there were two men having meals at the bar. one waitress and one cook. they were very friendly, and were attentive. the tv played salvadorean news and special interest stories. i ordered two tamarindo drinks because i had been craving them. my girlfriend ordered a jamaica which tasted weird to her. we asked the waitress to change it and she was really cool about giving us an horchata. i made my gf order that so that she could taste the difference between the mexican one and this one. it was as it should be. the pupusas were delicious, filled with meat, warm. cheesy, and so was the curtido and salsa. we also got pastelitos as an appetizer. they are smaller than usual but tasty and filling, served with cabbage. overall it was a great experience and i’d like to return with more people. we took four more pupusas to go. OK, first a little house keeping. These guys have two locations. This narrow, little room with a counter along one wall and another, much larger location down the street. If you went to a place with large, family style seating it’s the other location. I’m afraid some of these reviews are for that location and Alis P’s photo is definitely from their place down the street. Now on to the important stuff. Hungry dude walks into a hole in the wall place praying it’ll be good. He asks the waitress for the best thing on the menu and with a little translation assistance from a patron ends up with the steak and shrimp plate. I had never imagined dusting a meal with crack cocaine but this dinner was so delicious that that’s the only explanation that works. The juice coming off that steak was amazing. If you had spilled that sauce on a homeless man’s underwear I would have wrung it out just to get a teaspoon more. Wonderful food, friendly service. I’m definitely comin’ back!

Great place! Service is great, always greeted upon entering. All of the times I went there was no wait time we were seated right away. It’s kinda noisy, but the food is wonderful! I always order the cheese and bean pupusa with a side order of casa miento. It comes with coleslaw and salsa. Portions are large and you can easily get full on one pupusa. It’s cheap too! I definitely will revisit!

whenever i go to El Baron i try to look as bummy as possible. Only the place is filled with macho men who act like they’ve never seen a woman before. besides that, this place has got it all: pupusas, tamales, frijoles… my newest discovery is the bread with bean and cheese. and when i asked the waiter if it had a name, she looked at me like i was some sort of mental patient and said, «its called bread with beans and cheese.» pendeja.
