I just drove by there tonight on my way to Vons on Sunset and it looks like it closed down. All the signs were off it and the parking gate was locked up… too bad because they had pretty good food. In order for me to post this, I had to rate it. One star only because it has closed down. 4 stars for their food.

Delicious food, wonderful ceviche, my only gripe is the long waits and less than stellar cleanliness

The Lomo Saltado is to die for! Every time I get this entrée, I kid you not, I devour the dish(except the french fries, I put those on the side)! But none the less… It is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo good!!! Lol! It’s like, I’m addicted. Once my mouth tastes the flavorful seasoning of the sautéed onion, tomato and beef, my mouth goes crazy! If you’re into spices, then the green side of salsa they give you with the bread, is another highlight.

Awesome and authentic Peruvian food, staff is friendly and quick and the prices are great. You will definitely be served large portions so come with an appetite. Everything our group had was delicious. The platanos are a must!

Where do I begin? I used to come to this restaurant all the time. years ago when it was good. Now it has become a disgrace of Peruvian food. The bread was 2 days old and stale… and the aji was spoiled. My God. I tried and play it safe considering they have A HUGE B on the window given to them by the County, and ordered a chicken lomo saltado. The chicken was dark meat. extra crispy and hard to chew on. It was more like chicharrones. What ever happened to chicken breast? The rest of the plate had ok tasting but the presentation was terrible. I was so disappointed. Never. EVeR setting foot in here. This place should closed down. We were here for a Pre-Valentine dinner. drove from the South Bay for this crap. shame on you for still keeping your doors open. The waiter you ask? This will need to be continued,.can you say moron?

I have been coming to this don Felix for years and every time the food is superb but came here last night and again the food was amazing there was just one problem. I went to the restroom and there was no toilet pape or seat covers and there was throw up on the seats and all over the floor. This is why I have them only four stars instead of five. The bathrooms were unacceptable. Aside from that the food was great. I got the lomo Saltado de carne. It was a perfect amount of delicious sauce and salt. The plate comes with sautéed onions, French fries, meat, and a side of whit rice. My boyfriend had Chaufa de Mariano’s. This plate is huge and full of shrimp, octopus, and calamari. The bread and green chili sauce brought to you when you are first seated is to die for. I highly recommend this place is you love Peruvian food. Minus the disgusting restrooms.

This is my second time having Peruvian, and after eating it at Mamita’s in Glendale, this place is a way way distant second. I ordered the Cameron al Ajillo, a popular shrimp dish. It looked much better than it tasted — pretty bland. You’d think that fried shrimp covered in lime and butter would be oh so savory, but the only subtle hint of flavor was a touch of lime and maybe a grain of salt. *sigh* At least the service was good. There’s plenty of parking behind the place if you make it here. Expect to pay at least $ 11 – 15 per dish.

Don Felix offers great tasting authentic Peruvian cuisine. The service is friendly, the food is always great tasting the portions are big. The one thing I don’t really like is their vallet service. I hate paying for something I have no problem doing myself. Other than that, I give this place 5 stars! Keep up the good work.

The lomo saltado here is underwhelming. The portion of it is pretty good though. Tons of rice. I had some chicha morada to drink. Their bread is really bad! Bad bread, bad bread! Bad I tell you! Bad! The papas a la Huancaina here are bland. My friend’s shrimp ceviche had literally a sea of onions on it. We were wondering if any shrimp came with the onions. We did find a few fortunately. I didn’t like it here the first time I came and liked it even less the second time. My chair was literally sliding backwards because the floor was so greasy or had too much floor cleaner on it when they mopped. It was actually kind of amusing to slide so effortlessly. The bathrooms were as slippery so come to think of it they probably didn’t dilute the floor cleaner enough or something. Service is OK. The bathrooms are gross. That is, unless you enjoy the graffiti so much you forget the ickiness. Parking is a hassle unless you choose to valet in their big lot.

Valet parking only — regardless if half of the parking lot is empty. As soon as I walked in, one of the waiters just looked at me while standing by the cashier, and had to signal to him that I needed a table. The utensils given to us were old and dirty. The serving spoon for the soup had a gross dried vegetable stuck on it and when I pointed it out to one of the waiters, he did not even bother apologizing. The soup bowls had a tad of water in them. We constantly had to ask for our waters to be re-filled while the waiters are just standing behind the bar. Out of the four dishes we ordered, only one turned out good which was the lomo saltado. I feel bad for having to spend $ 60 for four dishes that were not worth it. I’m giving two stars because despite of the poor food quality, some staff are quick to clean the tables after the diners leave, and are polite.

I came with my summer research fellow group and our mentor doc to try Peruvian food. Everything is alright. Free bread + spicey mustard based sauce = sauce did not mix as well with the bread as olive oil and salt would. Interesting, but a bit unfitting Entrée was fried chicken(no breaking) with onions, tomatoes, and a side of rice. Chicken was a bit bland and dry. Vegetables were simple stir fry. Interior is simple, clean, not too fancy not too casual looking.

So you know when EVERYONE you talk to says that a place is great, yet for some reason you don’t go? Then when you finally go, and you regret going? Yep — Don Felix Peruvian is my place. For years I’ve been hearing about Don Felix and how its better than Mario’s Peruvian Seafood(Melrose/Rosemore and Beverly). This simply is not true! We entered Don Felix for lunch, it was empty, only for two tables being occupied. The waiter welcomed us and we sat — he instantly brought us bread, Huacatay(green spicy herb) sauce, and butter. We quickly looked over the menu and ordered the staples of Lomo Saltado, Ceviche Mixto, and Jalea de Pescado. The Ceviche came out first — the fish was mushy, the shrimp were bland, and the calamari were rubbery. The octopus tentacles were fine however the sweet potato was the best thing in that dish. The Lomo Saltodo and Jale came out shortly after. The Lomo had a good(not great) flavor but was disappointed in that there were a few shreds of beef and the fries were very limp. The Jale was dry, the seafood(shrimp, calamari) had the consistency of chewing on a rubber band. The fried fish was edible however the edges were very hard to chew. Overall — the waiter was nice and very attentive however the food was mediocre at best — INNOWAYIS THiS PLACEBETTERTHANMARIOS! Now off to recoup $ 60 from those that said Don Felix was good…

The Grass is not always greener! I was craving Peruvian but wanted to try something different than my favorite«Mario’s». A lot and I mean a lot of people have told me this place is Good some even calling it better than Mario’s so I had to know for myself. so I finally tried it today. I feel terrible like I had an affair on my long time love and then the sex was bad! LMAO!(Mario’s being the love and Don Felix the bad sex) first of all even the bread and sauce were bad! how can you mess that up? the bread had a sandy dusty texture on the outside before you got to the kinda soft inside. The ceviche Terrible! first of all it had to have been covered with atleast 1 whole entire large red onion on top. It was a RIDICULOUS! amount of onion we grabbed a bowl and just placed it all in there and then we finally got a peek of the seafood underneath. the texture of the seafood was like they blanched it and then squeezed it so hard that it looked like a dogs old chew rag and then soaked it in lemon juice for some flavor. I can see why they felt the need to cover it with a mountain of onion. the lomo saltado the potatoes were so soaked in oil they looked like drunken noodles.(a little tip for the cooks the pan and oil need to be hot before you start cooking)
and the Jalea, it was so tough and dry and no sauce was served with it. it didn’t come with the juicse of the ceviche under it nothing just dry tough over fried seafood. Never Ever Again can anyone tell me this place is good it’s not even in the same Ballpark as Mario’s! A little tip to the true foodies out there: know when you have a good thing and don’t get tempted with tales of the grass is greener.

I’ve been eating here or in their other location down Virgil since 2007. I love their food. It’s always so tasty and a great change of pace from other Latin restaurants. Serving sizes are large. Selection is varied. Service is good. The only reason it is not a 4 star is their $ 10+ price range. Then again, it is just so tasty. I recommend this great restaurant.

26 April 2014, 07:30p A friend was visiting from out of town so we organized a dinner with a party of 7 here. I had been a few times before and one of our friends had tried Peruvian food before, but all of the others were first-timers. I had called earlier in the week to make a reservation, but when we arrived, nobody knew anything about it. It’s a good thing the restaurant was not busy or it would’ve gotten ugly. Free valet parking is available in the back, but once parked, only the front entrance can be used. Odd. Our waiter was very attentive and patient with the beginners. He was also very helpful in answering questions regarding the food. Bread with spicy spread and butter was brought to the table promptly as well as water. The spicy spread is really good on the bread, but it does have a kick! During the meal, the water was refilled regularly without having to ask and other drinks(coffee and beer) were refilled or asked about. Hubby and I decided to share: Ceviche Mixto Saltado de Mariscos I have had the saltado before, but thought I’d mix it up with seafood instead of chicken. It was a very plentiful serving and it tasted very good. It has a ton of starch on the plate, though, with the fries and a huge pile of rice. I would definitely order this again as it had great flavor. The mixed seafood ceviche was a little too lemony for both myself and hubby. The portion was a decent size for an appetizer to share, but it doesn’t make a good entrée as it’s WAY too sour. There was also a huge pile of sliced red onion on top of the dish. We took most of that off, but I’m thinking maybe it helps to cut the sourness of the dish. Hubby ended up eating the rice from the saltado with the ceviche. Our friends ordered some fried rice, a fried steak similar to a schnitzel and fried shrimp. All the portions were very generous and everyone liked their meal. As I stated earlier, I’ve been here before and have not had a bad experience. The food is flavorful and the prices are reasonable. There is also enough room to accommodate large parties, but call more than just once to confirm they have your reservation!

I’m kind of shocked that I hadn’t written a review for this restaurant yet, lol. Thanks for reminding me Unilocal! I’ve been coming to this place for over 12 years, I just don’t visit as often now because I’m not as close to it anymore. I love everything about this place; coming here brings back good memories. I don’t know why people keep saying they have new owners… I was here on Easter Sunday and it’s still the same owners. Hmmm. Anyhow, they have the best Aji de Huacatay(spicy green sauce) which you get to enjoy before your meal with some hot and wonderful dinner rolls. Try it with a little bit of butter… to die for! We ordered the following: –Papa La Huancaina: boiled potatoes in a spicy creamy yellow sauce served with hard boiled eggs & olives over a bed of lettuce. Oh so good! –Lomo Saltado(my favorite): beef tenderloin strips sauteed with french fries, tomatoes, and onions and served with steamed white rice. This dish is delicious, the only gripe I have is that the steak is too tough(hence the 4 stars). They really need to do something about serving better steak. Put some tenderizer on there or something! –Tallarin Saltado(my daughter’s favorite): same as the lomo saltado except that instead of french fries they use spaghetti. The restaurant is by no means fancy, it’s definitely a mom & pop shop and in a not so great neighborhood, but it most certainly satisfies one’s craving for good peruvian food. Street parking is difficult to find, so be prepared to valet(cash only).

A good candidate for Restaurant Impossible. The only great service we got was from the valet. After ordering our food, it took the kitchen nearly 45 minutes to prepare and get it to the table. Each of us in our party of three all said that we would never order that again. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Peruvian Food first timer. Parking — Ample parking in the back, however, there is a mandatory valet. No cost, tipping is suggested. I think its unnecessary, but whatever. Ambiance — Leaves much to be desired. But I chalk it up to a small restaurant atmosphere. Service — Quick and friendly, although it did take a few minutes to find someone to seat us in an almost empty restaurant. Food — I dont know what its called, but I got the spaghetti with the beef strips, onion, and tomato… it was tasty, but felt like it was missing something. The portions are huge and i packed it for lunch the next day. It actually tasted better the next day. My friend got the lomo soltado but with shrimp… i dont know what its called either, but that was tasty. Overall, it was good, but i cant see my self craving this meal again.
