Well this was the first time I have eaten Jamaican food. I wanted to sit down and eat at the restaurant but on Unilocal the closing time was 9:30 when they actually closed at 9. So we ordered it to go. The staff was friendly and helpful with suggestions since I really didin’t know what I wanted. I thought I didn’t want their«healthy green». I think the chef heard my comment about me not liking kale. So he brought out a sample and we tasted it and I ended up ordering an extra side of Kale. I am not really a fan of chicken but the jerk was OK considering I don’t like chicken. I did the the spicy flavor. I had the curry Salmon. It was not bad nor was it really good. I think it might have been overcooked., I am prone to judge Salmon dishes very harshly because I love to cook salmon myself. And no one can cook salmon like I do. I am definitely going to go back and try something else. They have a fried lobster that I wanted to try but they were out of lobster. The reason being was that the lobster were so small and the price they would have to charge for it would have been outrageous.

Food is great but they they are a cheap ass business. They wanted to charge 2 $ to separate my veggies

Not impressed at all. Ordered the jerk chicken, it tasted like BBQ sauce with a hint of spice. The veggies were the best part of the meal. The rice and beans weren’t flavorful at all. Would I come back? No.

First time here I had their jerk chicken with steamed veggies and kale, it was really good. Also the plantain is very delicious. At the bar they had only few kinds of beer and wine, but the good thing is the red stripe was right on the spot. 5 stars and I recommend

I walked in 14 minutes to closing, and they treated me as if they had an hour left. My food was fresh and the clerk was very sweet. They will see me upon my next trip to LA.

I have been to Jamaica many times and I love Jamaican cuisine. I have tried 3 Jamaican restaurants in LA. One, Wi Jammin is dirty and terrible. The second is pretty good, but Derrick’s is delicious! I’ve tried the Escoveitch(fish) and the Jerk Chicken, but my favorite is definitely their Curry chicken. They have tasty chicken and beef patties, and their homemade hot sauce is fantastic! I wish they sold it by the bottle, but alas, they don’t. The restaurant has a nice, welcoming atmosphere and Derrick and his staff are friendly and accommodating. It’s a little more pricey than I might have expected, but I don’t care because the food is so good. I live less than 10 minutes away, and it’s on the way to or from one of the gyms I work out at, and I frequently stop by for a late lunch. I highly recommend Derrick’s!

This was the best Caribbean spot in Los Angeles. I order the ox tail with red beans and rice and there specialty healing greens. The ox tails were very favorable, and the healing green has just the right amount of season and was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend order the jerk chicken with steam vegetables with red beans and rice the chicken was full of flavor and very tender. The over all experience was outstanding. I recommend this place and these meals.

First off let me say the customer service was really good. I wish I would have remembered my waitress’s name but she was very nice and sat me right away and brought out festival bread for me which was delicious! I ordered the appetizer jerk wings which were AMAZING!!! I also ordered the oxtail entrée which came with rice and peas(beans) and steamed veggies with an order of plantains on the side. Everything was very tasty the rice and beans were ok their homemade hot sauce was good too. I’ll definitely be back. This was my first time here. I would love to try a curry dish next time and of course some more of those jerk wings!

We just had a great lunch here! Our group ordered the jerk chicken, Caribbean chicken, chicken curry, shrimp curry, complete with sides of plantains, greens, and red beans & rice. The service was so polite, and the food was just awesome! We could not help but try each others food, and really liked every dish. Ordered more curry chicken to take home for dinner tonight since I feel pretty sure I’m going to be craving another bite later. Awesome place! We will be back!

Don’t waste your money! The greens are bland as all get out, the oxtails were tough and not at all flavorful, the meal as a whole was a disappointing mess! The worst part is that I live so close that I was really hoping to make this a go-to spot for me but never again! Unless they get a new chef, I’m not eating their food even if it’s free. It was that bad.

«Jamaican-me» want more food, mon! After driving past this place for weeks, I finally stopped in. I was expecting a small take out counter but as I walked up I realized it was a fairly nice sit down restaurant. Pleasant surprise. They do have a separate take out counter inside. We were in a rush so went there. Everything on the menu looked good. Everything! Spicy shrimp — I didn’t find the shrimp to be that spicy at all. Still, it was good. Comes with 6 shrimp &2 sides. The shrimp were a tad bit on the small side. Not spicy but the spices were nice. For sides I got the ‘healing’ greens & mashed potatoes. The greens were great. Different from soul food greens. They were bright green in color and not greasy at all. Yet full of flavor. The mashed potatoes were good too. A little buttery but not overwhelming. Overall I really enjoyed my dish. Curry shrimp — Delicious! The shrimp are served in a yellow curry. It’s the same size shrimp as spicy shrimp so a tad on the small side. Plantains — Yum! Side order came with 7 – 8. More than I expected. They were nicely cooked. Kind of sticky. I’ll definitely get these again. Probably every time. Fried shrimp & zucchini — I’m not really into fried food. My sister ordered this not me. But it was good. The shrimp were lightly fried. The zucchini were definitely fried fresh. They have a small bar that serves beer & wine. Definitely a plus in my book. The staff was super friendly. As we were leaving, the woman told us to come back and sit down next time. I definitely will!

I have to say/write it… YEAHMON!!! I was getting my taste buds prepped for my Jamaica trip so I stopped by this neighborhood delight. The fact that you see the cook in the kitchen working, making some real Jamaican soul food, had me salivating instantly. The jerk was real jerk and the festival bread was real festive. ha! There’s indoor and outdoor seating so order up and enjoy your local Caribbean experience. «RESPECTMON»

I don’t know much about Jamaican food, or Jamaica in general, but this was just alright. I do know that if you say«Beer can» with a british accent, you’re saying«bacon» in Jamaican. We were in a rush to get to the forum, and they accommodated us with a super quick service of a jerk chicken plate. I must say, I’m either not crazy about Jamaican food, or I’m not crazy about the way they cook it here. I will have to come back to get more research for my study on the culinary delights of the Jamaicans… Jamaican me crazy!

OK Jamaican cuisine that’s hit or miss depending on what it is you order. I don’t go to many Jamaican restaurants so figured I’d give this one a try since there was tons of reviews saying this was the place to go. The service was decent but the food it self was just OK. I always hear of how good Jamaican style oxtails are and initially came for this dish. The oxtails here were a bit bland and lacking in flavor. So were the greens. The jerk chicken was decent which is great seeing that there’s great jerk chicken at other restaurants that aren’t considered Jamaican. So it would have really been a shame had it not been good here. Last, the curry goat was the best dish of the night. Had I gotten just the goat alone, my rating may have been a little higher leaving me to round off whether or not it should get the complete four stars. The food is good enough within the category of cuisine if you’re in the area and are not looking to venture out any further for another restaurant within the same category. Dinner ¼/2015

Jamaican food deserving of a foodie award in my humble opinion. This restaurant is nice and inviting, it’s very clean and the staff is always pleasant. The owner is so kind and always takes the time to introduce himself which is a plus and he cooks the food too. I heard good things about this restaurant for many years and now I’m hooked and this only my second visit. Stones Market used to be my favorite Jamaican restaurant but the staff is so nasty over there and the food isn’t as good anymore, moving on won’t be difficult now that I have Derricks. The food I enjoy. Beef patties The filling is soft and moist seasoned to perfection with a nice kick, the crust is very tender and flakey easily some the best beef patties I have tasted in a long time, we enjoyed them so much that we bought extra and they freeze perfectly. My daughter ordered a curry goat dinner it’s served with rice and peas and mashed potatoes. Of course I sampled it. Lol It’s tender and the spices omg take me into flavor town like never before, the gravy was beyond delicious and covered the goat it was utterly divine. Rice and peas Fluffy and full of tender beans, each grain of rice separate and seasoned it’s truly a bite after bite of deliciousness with a taste of coconut that brings me back to Jamaica with every bite. Me wan go back to Jamaica soon Mon. Mashed potatoes A welcomed surprise, I’ve never seen this on a menu in a Jamaican restaurant ever! They were fluffy and thick seasoned with garlic perfect to dip into the curry goat gray. My dinner was Escovitch fish, it’s served with rice and peas and sautéed cabbage and carrots. Red snapper fillets lightly breaded and fried Seasoned perfectly then topped with a medley of sliced onions, carrots, pickled jalapeño peppers and herbs In a vinegar sauce so subtle, it was sooo darn good each bite with the veggies was scrumptious slap your mama good, it’s my new favorite dish and next time I’m getting the whole fried fish. Sautéed cabbage with carrots and veggies so tender cooked to perfection delicious. The food was so good I felt like dancing after we ate, can you imagine eating food that doesn’t weigh you down … This food was light and not as heavy as others I’ve tried hands down it’s truly the best Jamaican food I have eaten all year. The owner gave us a complimentary order of Jerk chicken it was pretty good but a bit under seasoned, I added a little Adobe to kick up the flavor, the chicken was tender and the side of jerk sauce was spicy. This gal was pretty content with her food and my daughter loved everything. Festival Free with your order. Fried dough thick and sweet it’s very crunchy and I love them, my daughter not so much, but what do kids know. Haha more for me. Lemon cake It’s pretty standard pound cake not sure if it’s homemade unfortunately it tasted funny. I think it was too close to the curry goat in the bag, I want to try the coconut cake on my next visit. Pineapple ginger juice Spicy, sweet, cool and delicious it compliments the food perfectly and it’s spicy, if you can handle the heat of fresh ginger order this drink you’ll love it. With food this tasty give me some Reggae music, a blanket and a beautiful beach it takes me right back to Kingston Jamaica. I need to book my flight Air Jamaica here I come. Lol If you love Jamaican food don’t walk run to this restaurant you’ll thank me.

The chicken was fall-off-the-bone good, but at $ 15, a overpriced for such simple fare(mashed potatoes and steamed cabbage veggies accompanied). We got take out, which was a good idea. We were given odd stares from the people out front(Derrick himself apparently). All of the patrons stopped talking when we walked inside. Smiles caused patrons to turn away. The chef and employees were kind, and asked us if we lived in the area, and Derrick, upon exit, repeated this question. No one was unkind, but it felt odd.

Dear Derrick, Paige was the most beautiful, charming, and attentive waitress. I’m giving her 10 stars. From the moment we walked in she greeted us with a warm and beautiful smile. That meant alot. She made up for the last experience I had at your place on Sunday brunch. I actually might try your Sunday brunch again because of her. The food was good as usually and the chef was gracious enough to come out the kitchen and chat. Thank you very much Paige for changing my opinion on this restaurant. I will be back…
