I had the opportunity to visit this nonprofit recently and I must say that I was incredibly impressed! Such a kind, informative and dedicated group of professionals at the Temple Street facility. They guided me through an overview of the critical work they perform for kids and families in the community… and I really love the green architectural design of that particular location. Keep up the wonderful work, Children’s Institute.

This afternoon, I happen to go to the Children’s Institute website. I was impressed with their employment web page as well as their mission statement, «we believe in the continuous cultivation of an environment that is supportive, friendly and offers career growth opportunities to our staff. I considered applying but decided to first find out the salary for the position. I called and spoke with a recruiter in HR, I was informed that it was not their policy to give out the salary information to the public. She was unfriendly and disgustingly rude. I explained that since they are a non-profit agency and accept government funds and solicit monetary support from the public, they would need to release the salary information. The recruiter’s response was repugnant, she said, «I guess you won’t be applying for the job,» because I won’t give you the salary info. I found her response to be unprofessional and immature, therefore I called back to speak with the HR Manager. Her level of professionalism was a bit higher but her response was that the position was no longer open. I requested information on two other open positions and she said, she did not have time to review the whole list. I reiterated, I only wanted the salary for two positions that were open. She ultimately gave me the salary range of $ 30,000-$ 60,000(wide gap) and gave me an insincere apology on behalf of the HR recruiter. Ultimately, I told her that she was a reflection of the agency she worked for. Hope she cares to make some positive changes when speaking to potential candidates. I am glad I called because I would have wasted my time applying for a position that was already closed.
