The best Thai food I’ve had in Hollywood outside of Thai Town, and they have a separate vegetarian menu! I like that the menu incorporates appetizers, curries, noodles, salads, AND desserts-so many plant based options to choose from! They also have an impressive selection of beer and wine. I went with the Pad Fried Tofu Noodles, which was incredible. Perfectly cooked flat noodles with delicious lightly fried tofu chunks, with very fresh tasting greens mixed in. The sauce was flavorful without being too salty, and the spice level was perfect. Satisfying but not too heavy or greasy. Servers were very nice and fast. The ambiance is elegant yet relaxed. All major credit cards accepted.

This is my FAVORITE curry spot. I have a deep love of all things hot and spicy and the curry here never disappoints. I’ve only dined in once and the service was ok, but I give it 5 stars for the awesome flavor and quality of their food. My mouth is watering right now thinking about it!

My husband and I go here often. We usually order the same thing. The reason for 3 stars is their service is quite slow and whenever you call them, the phone never rings, it’s always busy. Guys, that is annoying. You don’t have your vegetarian menu on Unilocal so how can a vegetarian place an order? C’mon, fix your service and fix your phones.

I LOVETHISPLACE. I’ve been in many Thai places before I joined Unilocal and never checked in because I didn’t want to bother knowing I even went there. This place is just G O O D. I promise you. There’s never too many people either so I find it underrated. It’s a great casual place to be with friends and eat actually delicious Thai Food. Their Thai food is heavenly, AND they have really large servings for you and your friends to share. A must visit!

There are many Thai food restaurants in Hollywood but this is the one you want. I don’t understand why Chan Darae isn’t listed at the top of Thai Food on Unilocal in Hollywood. It is great food with a nice atmosphere. It feels family run so you get that extra care from the staff. Cool photos of celebrities with the family staff on the walls and it was appropriate and touching that they had David Bowie music playing the day after his passing(and they have a really neat photo of Bowie and Jagger with the staff neat the bar). I was a tourist but if I find myself in Hollywood again this will be on my short list of restaurants to dine.

Two stars for the nice atmosphere and wonderful waiter. Unfortunately, that’s about all I liked from my experience last night. My friend and I went here for he first time before our movie at the Arclight(across the street). My friend is allergic to MSG, so she asked for them not to add it to her curry dish. NOTE: We do this at other restaurants and it’s not an issue — at all. The waiter checked with the kitchen and came back multiple times to update on ingredients as they were checking the labels. He really put in the effort, which we appreciated. Per the manager, all the sauces they use contain traces of MSG and they stated they weren’t comfortable serving my friend her selection. My friend asked the waiter what items on the menu did not contain MSG, and they he stated ONLY3ITEMS(two salads and an appetizer) did not contain MSG. She ended up with an overpriced salad with dressing so full of sugar she could not even eat it. Basically this means this place does not make their own sauces, but rather uses pre-bought sauces and what not. If you don’t like MSG or are allergic to it ATALL — avoid this place altogether. The dish I ordered(I have no allergy) — chicken & broccoli — was good, but the sauce was heavy and had the consistency of syrup. Again, this is because they do not make their own sauces and by the pre-made stuff which contains a lot of sugar. Bottom line… I would not recommend this place due to the fact it doesn’t seem like they really make all of their own food and 99% of the menu contains MSG. If we had time to go to a different restaurant we definitely would have.

This Thai hole in the wall is the best Thai food I have ever had. The food is authentic and their recipes are consistently delicious! The atmosphere is super cozy. The service is great. Get the dinner portion and eat family style or the lunch from 11 – 3 for a personal size. Great things are sometimes overlooked in a big city and this place most definitely is! There has never been a dish here that I didn’t like. If you are in the mood for great prices and yummy Thai this is definitely a must try!

I really hate to do this. I was in Chan Darae for lunch a couple of days ago while working nearby. When my small group of 5 sat down, we asked if it would be possible to get our orders within 15 minutes if we ordered right away. We were told that since the restaurant was not busy at all and we weren’t ordering any type of seafood, that it wouldn’t be a problem. Sure enough 4 of the 5 orders arrived after about 20 minutes and most looked greasy and unappetizing. More on that in a moment. Ten minutes later I inquire as to my dish of Pad Woon Sen. The server looked confused and spoke with the Chef. After a brief discussion, I was told it is almost done. Well, another 10 minutes pass and still nothing. At this point, the time we had for our lunch had expired as did my patience. I cancelled my order. while they complained and told me «no, you can take it to go». Ummmmm, I don’t think so. When lunch is done, I have to work… Not eat food I was looking forward to having while taking a break. I did try several of my coworkers dishes, and every one of them were greasy and oily with an odd after taste. If I wanted greasy, oily, funky tasting food… I would have went for Chinese. I wanted Thai because if is usually fresh, flavorful, and lighter. Chan Darae, your Thai food failed miserably. You might want to think about reinventing yourself as a greasy Chinese dive.

When you get that itch, that what do I want and feel like coloring out of the lines. get busy with this place. Sate, covered. Curry-check. They’ve been doing it and doing it well before you knew what Thai was. Now down. And eat up.

I’ve noticed one common theme in the low reviews from all the moronic people who two-star this wonderful place in an attempt to downgrade it to their hipster white-washed friends so they to will not experience this wonderful and timely hole in the wall thai eatery… THEYALLORDEREDFRIKKINTAKE-OUT! What do you think would happen? If you treat said sit-down establishment as if it is no better than a fast food frenzied establishment the expect the same result you get when ordering from the sloppy downtrodden, bud-head at the jack-in-the-crack window to get your order wrong even though you repeated it over the intercom twice… and they will inevitably always forget your straw and love you«ketchupLESS in HollyWEIRD». Do your self a favor if you are going to order make sure it’s tacos or something SoCal employees rarely will screw up… like that faux Mexican place which falls at about the 500th place to eat one list… yes I’m talking about you. you wasted of yuppiness CHIPOTLE… This is Thai food, this is regional shit that should be enjoyed with Tom-Yum soup, stir fry(level 2), larb, rice of choice, pineapple fried rice and a damn good Chang, Thai beer! No sit down and enjoy the EPICneas of a great meal, that you did not brown bag as an order and enjoy a real meal that demands that you experience only by dining in!

Some of the better Thai food I’ve had. The menu had all of the standard Thai items and the lunch specials were great. The tom yum and tom kah were on point, the meat and broccoli in my pad see ew were fresh, and the servers were very attentive.

Once in a while I order their lunch special, and it is always ready within 10 minutes. You get a great amount of food for the 11 $. I would recommend any of their curries, or their noodle dishes.

I’ve been to Chan Darae couple of times and I have to give it a 3 stars because of the service. The food is good but the service is always very long and not that good. I placed a delivery and it was a complete disaster — They messed up the order and were rude on the phone. From now on, I’ll stick to dine in! Tip: The appetizers and noodles are delicious!

Where you get confused bewildered unusual clueless waitresses, That will bring you the wrong order… not once… not twice… but three times. On a frozen night at just barely a notch over 40 degrees while waiting for our movie everyone’s stomach was on empty. On a warmer night we could have walked further, but aaah let’s try this place. Nothing could go wrong… right? WRONG! As we entered, we were told that there was no seating readily available. Well, all our minds got together and we were starting to move tables and chairs at the entrance area to accommodate our group. All of a sudden a table was available. Not just any table. They have a third room waaaaaay in the back of this place. Enough seating for 30 people… but…we were the only ones there. What happened to not having any seating for our group.(no one left yet) So we order a dozen things off of the menu. Soup arrives and we’re stirring it and I touched a shrimp and then the waitress runs in and grabs it and seys… sorry this isn’t yours… So another bowl of soup for all of us to share arrives. We start stirring it and getting ready to pour it in our little cups and the short waitress comes up real snooty and seys, «this don’t belong to you» So a third bowl arrives and she sat it down and I lunged for it and said, she ain’t getting this one unless I get a bite first… I’m starving and everyone started laughing. I know that they messed up on some of the food, because some of it didn’t look like anything that we ordered. So someone else probably got what we ordered and we got what they ordered… uuugh. Don’t get me wrong… there is food here that is worthy of five stars. Kind of a hit /miss on the food. The fries were no bueno… cold and soggy looking and definitely not a good presentation. Ooooh…and don’t get the hyped up chrysanthemum tea. It’s nothing more than a dead weed in a jar all watered down. Refills cost extra and they wanted to charge us extra to bring more water to refill that ugly plant stuck in our water. REALLY! Also prepare to wait… wait…wait…for your food as you’re watching other people that came in after you and ordered and got their food first… hmmmm. Heeeey… who knows… you might end up getting someone elses higher priced food… and enjoy it and pay the cheaper price that’s on your bill… We did leave them a handsome tip… still unsure why. Maybe we were paralyzed by that weird looking weed tea! But…perhaps it was a bad day. I will give them another try at a later date

This is one of my favourite Thai restaurants. The staff are all very friendly. The Thai Boat Noodle soup is delicious and they have some good deals for Happy Hour appetizers. Panang Curry is my favourite Thai dishes and I’ve tried quite a few in LA. This place definitely has one of the best. The curry sauce is on the thicker side(which I prefer) and it’s just so good. My only issue with it is that it’s a little too spicy(disclaimer: I’m White) even if you ask for it mild.

A great place to go to when you’re in the Hollywood area for dinner. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly and the shrimp fried rice was really good. Good service, good location, good prices.

After seeing the play at the Lost Studio, our entire group headed here for some Thai food! SERVICE: Our group leader, as it were, called ahead to «warn» them of our large group of 13 and made arrangements, or a reservation so everything was ready when we arrived. It was and they sat us in another room adjacent to the main dining room. Our server was quite helpful, very friendly and very accommodating. She had no issues with doing separate checks for everyone and while I’m sure it was a pain for her, it made it much easier for all of us! FOOD: Everyone did their own thing there’s no way I can remember what they ordered… so… I ordered the Green curry w/chicken($ 11 — eggplant, Thai basil, bell peppers, and bamboo shoots). Chan Darae thoughtfully gives you the option of white or brown rice with most all of their dishes and I went for brown! The curry had a really great flavor, nice and creamy with the coconut milk, totally YUMMY! I offered those with yellow curry a taste of my green and all were pleasantly surprised with the flavor and said they’d order the green curry next time! I I also ordered Pad see ew w/pork($ 11) and Garlic spare ribs.($ 13). Yes this is a lot of food for one person, but I planned on taking the rest home for my dad. Pad see ew is my FAVE Thai noodle dish! Large rice noodles wok fried with broccoli & pork. YUM! The garlic spare ribs, WOWIE! Very tender, awesome flavor with a bit if spiciness and LOTS of garlic, OHSO delish! OVERALL: Considering our large group of 13, the service was awesome and the food was super tasty! A solid 4 stars!
