Okay, yes, they were slow. PAINFULLY slow(November to April). But you can’t argue with the result. My dad sent my mom a 3-tiered candy dish from Belgium during WWII. Mom and Dad have been gone some time, but I inherited the dish… and, of course, broke one of the tiers a couple of years ago. An edge, in tiny, tiny pieces(now I know why mom kept it wrapped up and stored away). There were even some pieces missing in the painted part. So, I had resigned myself to a «patchwork» look, but at least having it in one piece. I can’t tell you how shocked I was to walk in and find a piece that looked like it had never been broken, even through the painted areas. So shocked I don’t think I was appreciative enough when I picked it up(I can’t stop looking at it). This is my first time using a service like this. Quite honestly, there isn’t much I have that’s worth it to me to have restored — nice things, but not irreplaceable. But this had a lot of sentimental value. If you’ve got something that really means a lot to you, I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I could not be happier with the repair work they did on a fragile and intricately decorated sculpture. I didn’t have high hopes given the severity of the damage and the lack of an obvious way to put it back together, but they did an amazing job. If I didn’t know where the damage was, I would never be able to find it now post-repair. Really impressive. In addition, the people there were friendly and helpful over the phone and in person, and I thought the price was fair, though I have no prior experience with art repair.

This is a must GO-TO place for any restoration. PRO: They are the best CONS: They are expensive(but worth it). Parking is an issue b/c of the street restrictions, and they keep«banker’s hours»(close at 5pm) OVERALL: If ya gotta go, ya gotta go!

After two moves over the past several years, several pieces of my collection of Han Chinese terracotta burial figures, a Pre-Columbian statue and a very pretty Chinese cachepot were damaged and relegated to boxes in my basement. I happened to come across Brookes Restorations’ website and thought perhaps it was time to bring them back to life. Johnny at Brookes was very respectful of my pieces and concerns, including price, and gave me several options for restoration of each piece. Opting for the more modest restoration options, my expectations were not especially high. To my surprise, each piece was meticulously repaired in better condition than prior to its«injuries» during my moves. I was especially pleased with the cachepot as the previous crude repairs were revised and it was beautifully restored to once again reveal the exquisitely painted butterflies, lotus flowers and grasshoppers that adorn it. I was extremely satisfied with Mr. Brookes’ very fine craftsmanship and reasonably priced work. He is truly an artist in his own right.

They can fix pretty much anything, but at a price. They shine at fragile items(glass, ceramics, and so on), from pieces to almost the original. Silver items get polished, but not replated or rhodium-washed.(For that, go to Jacob Jewelers on 3rd)

Mr. Brookes is simply a magician. I received a gift while working oversees from my colleagues which was a custom made item and cannot be ordered or purchased anywhere at this point. When moving offices, someone dropped it by accident and it broke into many pieces. Unfortunately the person tried to glue it together and some pieces were thrown away since they did not think the pieces were useful. In other words, the poor piece was a mess. I was not sure what to expect, but since we have been bringing various pieces to Brookes for years and everything looked brand new again, I had some hope. What I received back was simply unbelievable. The piece looks new — the holes in the ceramic are now filled in and painted over with a complete match to the paint on the original. No one would ever know how this piece looked when I brought it in. Restoration seems to be a lost art — we are so lucky to have Brookes Restorations here in Los Angeles!

I purchased a hand-made ceramic sculpture while in Thailand, which was my one large purchase(«souvenir») of my trip. Unfortunately, it was damaged during shipping which left me heartbroken. I was going to simply glue it back together as best as possible and live with it. However, upon hearing my situation, the shipping company recommended that I take it to Brookes. I am so grateful that I did. Not only is the crack completely unnoticeable, but there was one small shattered piece of the structure that Brookes had to make from scratch in order to fill(I did not even notice the missing piece until they pointed it out with their keen eye). I honestly can’t tell which piece is new and which piece is part of the original structure. It’s a perfect match! These people are true craftsman, and I am so pleased with the results. Like magic, it’s as if it the damage never happened.

I’ve brought items to be restored here over the years and have never been disappointed. Easy parking, good customer service, GREAT work! I’ve recommended Brookes to a few people and they were very pleased as well. Highly recommended!

I have a 150 year old large Dutch Makkum plate, which belonged to my Mother. It fell of the wall and broke in many pieces and shards — in other words I thought it was hopeless and was ready to throw it away. As a last resort I took it to Brooke’s. Turns out it was the best thing I ever did. I don’t know how Geoff managed it but the plate looks like new; it is amazing! I am delighted! By the way this the second time Brooke’s repaired one of my pieces. That one came out just as well also. If I ever break anyting again this is where I would go. Thanks Geoff and everybody at Brooke’s restorations!

I have an 80+ year old painted ceramic vase, a family heirloom with great sentimental value, that had been mishandled over the years. It was a dirty old mess, with a poor previous repair job, chips, fractures, and a bad ink stain from having been used as a pen and pencil holder. Mr. Brookes did a complete restoration. Perhaps the repairs would be detectable by a professional, but I can’t even see where the damage had been. Also, the colors are looking much more vibrant. I am so happy to be able to enjoy it as I imagine my grandmother did when she received it all those years ago. I would definitely recommend this place for restoration of a precious item.

Totally blown away on the craftsmanship to repair my broken antique milk glass shade. If you have a precious item to repair. Don’t hesitate to take it there. Don’t expect a fast turn around time, but it’s worth the wait

I have a miniature ceramic vase which chipped when, to my horror, I dropped it. It looked like the repair would have do be done under a microscope. I brought the vase in and Johnny gave me an estimate and said it would take two or three weeks for the repair. The charge, $ 45, seemed reasonable. I left the vase, he called me about two and a half weeks later to say the vase was ready. It looked like new. I was very pleased and would use this vendor again.
