I have been coming to Ray for a while now and he is simply the best at what he does! And such a cool dude! Five stars all the way! I have never been disappointed he always makes it better then expected. Good prices too!

Ray is amazing. It was my first time going there (I live in the neighborhood and saw his shop on Hoover and it looked cool) and I am so glad I did. When I first went in I asked for some black stripes in my long red hair. I had never had my hair died before so he suggested a temporary dye to make sure I liked it. I loved it, went back a week later and had even more black put in. I just needed a change after having had red hair my whole life and he totally got it. Not only was the dye job fab but he cut it in layers too. I have super curly hair and whenever I’ve had it cut, it’s never looked great curly, only straightened. I don’t have time to straighten it everyday and explained this to Ray, so he gave me a cut that works great either way. Found my guy, so happy! Also, his prices were a nice surprise; I was willing to pay more, seriously.

This is a great shop. Speaking as a guy who mostly has gone to my own neighborhood barbershops, I got really sick of Rudy’s in Silverlake and needed a change. I felt as if Rudy’s had been getting worse and worse over the years, while at the same increases prices as well. I now go to Ray and he rocks, he’s not ‘too hipstery’ nor is his shop ‘too macho’ and his shop was just right for me. Also he will tell you what works for you and what won’t, which is nice as most other stylists will just placate you and go with whatever bad idea you might have lurking in your own head.

I get stopped at least three times a week with people asking me where I get my hair done. I get at least three compliments today on my hairstyle. And it is all Ray! I’ve been with him for years, I trust him with everything! In fact, a woman just followed me out to my car in the rain to ask me where I got my hair done! Be proud of your hairstyle! Go to Ray!

Have had my hair cut by Ray a few times now, and have never left disappointed. I have had more compliments on the cuts he has given me than cuts I have received at other salons. As soon as I briefly describe the cut I want, he effortlessly makes it happen. I was originally recommended to him by a friend, and I have now become a regular customer!

The salon is fantastic! Ray Ortiz the owner does a fabulous job on all types of hair! I have fine, thin hair and he knows exactly how to texturize and work with my hair to give me tons of body. He also knows how to work color. He’s very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience with all different types of hair. He cuts and colors my hair and along with my husband’s hair and we both are just gorgeous! Also reasonably priced. And he’s a gem of a stylist and I highly recommend him to anyone!

Went here for the first time this past weekend. I live in the neighborhood and always walk by on my way to Cafecito or to Sqirl. I needed a haircut so I decided to check it out.
Ray was great! I went in not really knowing what cut/​style I wanted and he was very knowledgable and experienced to give me his recommendations. He asked how often I typically get my haircut and cut my hair accordingly, won’t need to come back for a few months at least. I appreciate that. Definitely trusted him and really enjoyed talking with him as he cut my hair.
Men’s cuts are $ 30 but for first time customers it’s at a discount $ 24. A great price point for a solid next level haircut, compared to my typical Supercuts trip. Will definitely be coming back.
Hopefully this will be the beginning of some new development on this little stretch of Hoover. First we have coffee and hair place, all we need now is a little food place and a bar and Hoover will be a nice little new drag.

I’ve lived in LA for 10 years and have had many barbers come and go, nearly all of which left me with a «half decent» cut. Luckily, I found Ray 5 years ago and have stuck with this guy since! Truly the only person in this city that I trust and always has me looking good!

Ray is the hair stylist equivalent of a medical intuitive. I go to him with a vague concept and he looks at my hair and several hours later I find myself with a style, cut, and color that is exactly what I wanted but couldn’t quite put my finger on, and better than I ever imagined. For years I went to him when he was working in the shop on Melrose.
Then I decided to let my natural color grow in and see what my hair would do if I left it alone, and didn’t get my hair done for almost two years. It is a testament to Ray’s artistry that people were still loving his hairstyle that entire time: it looked great as the roots grew longer and darker; it looked great when they got so long that people started thinking I’d died the tips blond; my bangs grew out beautifully.
Imagine my delight when I called him for a appointment last week and discovered he had opened a salon in Silverlake only several blocks from my house. I saw him yesterday and although every single time he does my hair I think it is his best style creation yet, he really outdid himself, turning me from an ordinary-​looking shoulder-​length brunette into a rapunzel-​haired mermaid with long cobalt, teal, turquoise, purple locks. He did such an amazing cut that if it weren’t for the magical colors you would think that every long hair on my head grew there naturally. I left feeling completely, ecstatically transformed.
To top it off, even though he spent at least an hour or two longer than usual and used 2−3x more product, he charged me the same (already awesome) price he always did to style the (MUCH!) shorter hair I had when he was on Melrose. Also, he is super sweet, and fun and interesting to talk with – and I love the look of his new space! (AND BONUS: EASY CLOSE UNMETERED UNRESTRICTED STREET PARKING!!!) I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is a true hair artist.

Ray has been cutting my hair for 8 years.
He’s so consistently good I’ve followed him from Melrose to Redondo to Culver City and now he’s really close to me in Silver Lake.
He knows better than me what is best for my hair. He nails it every time. I have never had to let a bad haircut grow out with him. On top of that it’s an incredible value to have someone with his talents charge what he charges.
I’ve paid other hair professionals 3x as much as Ray charges and have never had the same results. In fact when Ray used to work at an upscale salon I had to pay close to $ 100 for him to cut my hair.
The neighborhood is very luck to have him set up shop here.
I highly recommend supporting him so he doesn’t leave.

Ask for Ray! Parking is a breeze and very accessible. I’ve been going to him forever and I’m glad he’s opened his own salon. He is amazing. Clean, edgy, stylish, fresh look every single time!

Just got my haircut from Ray and as always my hair looks it’s best. He has an eye for giving you a hairstyle that fits you and your face. Not only that, he is the first person to cut my curly hair that gives me the option of wearing it straight or curly without it looking awkward. I’ve tried so many hairstylists in search of someone who can really cut curly hair the right way and I can honestly say I have finally found that person! A couple days ago, I had my first haircut at Atomic Hair Lab and am thrilled with the results. Lots of compliments! During the last few years, I’ve followed Ray Ortiz to four different salons and have never been disappointed. As a haircutter and colorist he’s a serious pro and all around cool guy. I’m so glad to see him open his own super cute salon, definitely worth the trip to the Eastside. Big plus, parking is much easier than it was at his previous Melrose salon.

Friendly, highly skilled, overall a great experience. Ray has great customer service. I’ve been getting my hair done by him for about three years, never a let down. If you want a cut or color that you’ve seen in a magazine or online bring the picture, he likes that.

Just got an AWESOME hair cut from Ray. He has a talented eye for style and incorporates his skill with your facial features and style needs. I decided to donate 18″ of my hair to locks of love, and he knocked it outta the park! My short do and follow up trim keeps the compliments coming in. This place is a MUST try: cozy, cool, chic!

I have been going to Ray for over 10 years now! I have followed him throughout Los Angeles and it is so great to see him in his very own shop now! He has done it all– chopped my long hair into a super hip and edgy A-​line bob, layered my long hair, dyed my hair one color and has added amazing pops of color as well. He really knows what he is doing and works to make sure you are completely in love every time. My curly haired mom and thick haired niece have come to Ray as well and both left his shop with beautiful and healthy looking hair.

Atomic Hair Lab is my favorite place to get a cut. I have been going to the owner Ray Ortiz for haircuts for 5 years and now have followed him to his own shop now.
