Wine Saloon

Came in to have a drink after a long day of work and I got to tell you the service there was wonderful the young lady that was pouring that night was very friendly and although she was busy she always came by to see if we needed anything else. The wine we had was actually a Pinot and Syrah rose. She also recommended if we wanted a little bite to eat we can order from next-​door. Which we did. They also have a few games. And plenty of seating. They do wine tasting from 12 to 5 PM. you’re able to purchase by the glass or a bottle after that time. Overall it was a great stop.

We absolutely LOVE the wine and Jamie was the most knowledgeable wine server with THE BEST stories!!! We will be back again and again! We loved the ampelos syrache and GoGi goldie Chardonnay! The best

The wine saloon is a great place to relax and have an excellent tasting flight, glass, or bottle of wine from Gogi, Hudson Bellamy, or Ampelos. Jami and Gina are the best and put the right touch of friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about all of the wines they are pouring.

We were here on a Sunday afternoon. Have to say the whole experience was nice but nothing. We tried the wine tasting flight, 6 wines.
Nothing bad… Nothing a wow. I can tell you, the wines were served warmer than they should be for optimal taste. The whole experience lacked passion, although the tasting room manager was knowledgeable, it felt mechanical .
I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back here, especially since there are so many amazing places to taste wine through out this valley.

Stopped in today on our way home from a spontaneous trip up North to Morro Bay. Met the very wonderful Jami. She was so knowledgeable and friendly.
I tried GoGi Goldie Chardonnay. My guy had the wine flight, and a glass of GoGi Tiger Pinot Noir, which he loved enough to spend $ 75 on a bottle to bring home.
The saloon is in the old Union Hotel. Lots of history there. Most of the people were stopping in with the impression that Kurt owns the saloon which he does not. His wine, and daughter Kate Hudson & ex Matt Bellamy along with Ampelos wines are the only wines served at the saloon. Many visitors inquired where Kurt was, I guess hoping to get a picture with the well known actor. A few were very snobby customers and need a reality check. But Jami handled them with class.
It’s a great little spot to stop on your road trip. It’s open Fri-​Sun only. Don’t expect celebrity sightings, or discounts. Realize Jami has connections, but she’s there to run a business. Enjoy the wine and enjoy the conversation.

I love the Wine Saloon! Not only does it have great wines-​it has great people. Jami was fabulous and very informative. The décor is great and the space is nice. I love the Ampelos, GoGi and Hudson/​Bellamy wines. Good price for the flight. Only open on weekends sadly. Go here if you’re into wine tastings. I have not tried the food but hope to next time. Super fun place.

Although I spent only a short time at the Wine Saloon the service was great and Jami was amazing. I know she’s told the story of the saloon many times and she did not hesitate to tell us again as she was cleaning up and closing down.
The ambiance is awesome with antiques all around and a shuffle board for some entertainment.
AND the wine sealed the deal!

I’ve now been here twice this year, and am already wanting to go back. The location is a bit of a trek for me, coming from Orange County, but if you’re heading up to the Solvang area for a weekend, you should swing by! My friends and I all enjoyed the saloon and were just here this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. It was pretty packed around 1 when we arrived on Saturday, so we grabbed lunch and came back around 2/2:30. By then it was all ours.
Jami was our pourer and she was very informative about the different wines– gave just enough info (more if you asked) but not so much that you felt like you were getting lectured ;) She is lovely and very sweet. Having done the tasting flight here recently, I knew what I wanted so I split a bottle of the Syrah with one of my friends. The rest of our group did glasses, flights, etc. We all had a blast and Jami was a real pleasure to be around. You can also order empanadas from the hotel restaurant to enjoy in the saloon if you need to snack on something.
We came back after dinner and played some shuffleboard, while sipping on some more wine. The vibe is totally laid back and you feel like you’ve stepped into a saloon straight out of the Old West (swinging saloon doors, toilets with pull chains). We left the obligatory «we were here» dollar on the ceiling before we left. I know everyone in our party found something on the wine menu that they enjoyed and we all had a wonderful time hanging out, chatting with Jami, and just people-​watching. We will definitely come back!

First off I am surprised that there aren’t more reviews on this exceptional business.
My wife & I live in the nearby town of Orcutt & finally visited The Wine Saloon on a beautiful Sunday afternoon after buying some bread from Bob’s Bakery & perusing the antique stores. We have always loved the Union Hotel building & we were very pleased when Gogi Wines (Kurt Russell & partners) changed the old saloon space into a wine saloon. So we had to check it out.
Good thing we did ! The wines are terrific, the old west saloon atmosphere is really cool & really comfortable, but Jami the manager is such a delight and makes you feel as if you are a friend and regular customer on the first visit. She is very passionate about this business & is very fun to be around. She doesn’t like to talk much, though (LOL). We are going to be coming back often & bringing our family & friends for a very pleasurable outing. Thanks & hope your business thrives.

Some of the wines are good, most are ok but the service is unfortunately terrible. It’s a great location, has shuffleboard and pool but it could just be so much better than it is. You can only survive on a famous name for so long.
