Who here is married to a man, who sounds like a bear that swallowed a rusty chain saw riding a motorcycle at the airport as planes take off at night? Yeah, that pretty much sums up my husband’s snoring. But, as horrible as the snoring was, his apnea was terrifying and kept me up most nights. He convinced himself that his snoring was not that bad & I was exaggerating. So, I recorded him. After hearing himself he just got mad & threatened to sleep in another room. He gave me every excuse he could think of not to go to the doctor. For years I asked, I begged, I explained, I threw temper tantrums, I nagged, and I even threatened divorce. I did everything I could think of to get him checked but time and time again his answer was a resounding«NO!» I was so worried about his apnea that I would wake up & monitor his breathing through out the night. Whenever he sounded like a clogged vacuum cleaner I’d nudge him so he could start breathing normally. He didn’t like me waking him & I told him I’d stop if he got checked, but still he refused and on went our nights. Finally, the skies opened up and the Angels said, «Man listen to thy wife!» Alright well not really but that’s how it happened in my head. He was scheduled to have surgery & during his pre-op the doctors told him they would have to postpone his surgery until he had a sleep study & was using a CPAP consistently for a specified time. His case was expedited and immediately after we were scheduled at REM Sleep Labs. Because of the severity of his case he did not have the option of a home study but instead to had spend the night at the lab. We were instructed to arrive 30 minutes prior to his appointment to fill out paperwork. We were immediately greeted by the staff who were all very very friendly. He was shown to his room, which was pretty nice. It was a small room with a queen bed. There was a TV on the wall directly in front of the bed & he had access to the AC control. The room was warmly decorated to give a home like feel & reduce any anxiety one might feel. It felt more like a hotel than a lab. They even asked if I wanted to spend the night, which I thought was not permitted, but apparently they allow it. They just provide the spouse a separate bed as to not disturb the patient & all the wires they’re hooked up to. During the time I was with him the staff was absolutely amazing. They explained step by step what they would be doing and what to expect. Once I left my husband told me that the staff continued to be nothing but professional, friendly & accommodating to his every need, mainly potty & water breaks. The following day I picked him up bright & early. We were told that results usually take a week but because his surgery was dependent on the results they would expedite his file. And wow talk about expediting, they weren’t kidding. Later on that same day we received a call letting us know that his apnea was in the«severe» category. I already knew that but my stubborn bear just had to hear it from a professional. Anyway, he was ordered back to the lab that same night. This time he would be hooked up to an actual CPAP machine to determine & calibrate how much air needed to be pumped into him to keep his airways open. Again, he was treated wonderfully. Given that they had seen him the prior night it was like friends reuniting. They joked with him all while doing an exceptional job setting him up at the CPAP. He came back the following day bragging about what a wonderful nights sleep he’d had. He raved about how much energy he felt & how he’d never felt so refreshed. Though I was so grateful & happy for him at the same time, & inside my head, I was pulling my hair & screaming«REALLY!!! REALLY! AREYOUKIDDINGME!!! I TOLDYOUTHISBEFOREANDYOUWOULDN’T LISTEN!!!» and in my mind I could see myself choking the life out of him! Anyway I didn’t make a big deal of it and was just glad he’d finally realize he could sleep better. He now has his very own CPAP machine & I no longer have to monitor his breathing. I must admit I’m having a hard time sleeping without his snoring. Still I much prefer him quiet and healthy, & none of this would be possibly without the great people at REM. I highly recommend them. Their facility is clean, quite & it really is like sleeping in a hotel room. They do a great job of making one feel at home and not like a lab rat. If anyone out there is in the market for a sleep study, look into REM they were great with my husband.

My first time with a sleep study, i was surprised of all the wires that are hooked up to you! That part you got use to it. You would think since you are doing a sleep study you would be in a restful, quite environment. Not at all. You can hear everything in the next FEW rooms over, from people talking to tvs on. NOTSOUNDPROOFAT ALLl. The Beds are sleep number, not bad but since you are hooked up with all this monitoring, ANDCANTMORETHATFARFROMMACHINE, there was a deep depression in the bed itself. I think of all the money i spent it should be sound proof with Great Bedding! I have stayed at better motels. I would look around before doing IT here! THETECHSWEREGREAT5STARPLUSRATING!

My husband needed to complete sleep study. He put it off forever. Drag it out. He was concerned about sleeping somewhere other then his own bed. Well I wish I could of slept in that great bed! They did everything to make him comfortable. It was like a 5 star place! So don’t be afraid, Ernie will take good care of you. And all the peaceful sleep that you will get after it. All worth it!
