Do you believe in miracles? I do and her name is Shonia! She can cut my curly hair so I can handle it! But that’s not the whole experience with Shonia. She not only shampoos your hair but she massages your scalp to help you relax. She really takes her time to get to know you and what you would like in a hair cut. The salon is so relaxing with windows looking out to the courtyard filled with whimsical decorations from the near by shops and one of my favorite restaurants, Shenandoah’s. It’s always clean, and has a cozy feel. Everyone I have talked to here are super friendly.
The parking is a little difficult when it’s busy, and it’s a little hard to find the first time, if you’re not familiar with the area, But definitely worth it.
I’m in Irvine now and still come up to Los Al for Laurie. She always does a great job with my hair :)

I followed my hair dresser Laurie to this cute little salon on Los Al Blvd. Located behind Shenandoah restaurant. If you can’t find parking in the back then you can park on the street. No problem. When I arrived, the women there greeted me and were friendly and it was quiet & relaxing. It’s very clean and everything I want in a hair salon. Laurie did an excellent job adding low lights to my super blonde weave and you can tell they use great products. I was extremely happy with my new hair color. Thanks again Laurie! :)

Briana was so kind and helpful! She gave me good advice and did the color perfectly! I even found a gift for my daughter-​in-​law for her birthday! She loved it too! Thrilled my days of looking for a salon are over! Which I may add, the salon is darling!

Brianna cut my hair with precision and style! She even gave me tips on how to style my hair using products of Paul Mitchell. Other staff members are super friendly! The place is so relaxing and clean! I will definitely recommend this salon to my friends and relatives!

This pace is the BEST!!! I’ve been here twice now and I have been more than happy with my results both times! I got for Briana!!! She is THE BEST! I’ve had my hair cut and colored by her and she is a hair genius! The atmosphere is very homey and relaxed. Such a hidden gem! I am a satisfied customer that will definitely be back in the future!!!

I’ve been coming to this salon for the past few months, thanks in part to one of their stylists, Jodi Lopez. I originally met Jodi through a Regis hair salon, and when she started at A Place of Our Own, I followed her :) This salon is located in a cute and quaint shopping village/​strip, and boasts a lot of character. The vibe is relaxing, quiet, and welcoming. I definitely prefer it over your typical hair salon! I have been seeing Jodi for the past 5 years and she does a stellar job every single time! If you’re looking for a hair salon that will treat you like family instead of a client, and provide you with what you want at a price you can afford, then this is the place!

This little salon is SUPER CUTE! This is a little HIDDEN GEM. It’s located behind this cute little shopping area. Forgot the name but there is a restaurant called Shenandoah’s also.
I followed Jodie Lopez here. She used to work at Regis at the Lakewood Mall. One day, I was in desperate need of a haircut after my stylist when on maternity leave.
I stopped by Regis and got Jodi. She was great and we were chit chatting back and forth the entire time. I really liked her and the hair cut she gave me. We switched contact info and a few months later, I received an email from her that she had moved salons. Jodi was so amazing that I wanted to follow her to this salon.
Tip: additional parking is in the back, go through the alley. You won’t see this place from the street. It’s really a hidden gem!

Ashley Baur cut my hair for the first time today. I was directed to her by a coworker of mine. I requested an A line bob and it came out exactly how I pictured it. The salon itself is SO beautiful. It doesn’t feel like a salon. It is so quite and peaceful. I felt like I was getting my haircut at a cabin in the woods! Awesome. Check this place out if you need some self pampering/​relaxation.

Ashley Bauer did my updo for my wedding. Our initial hair trial was amazing, she listened to my vague and varying ideas, looked at my Pinterest with a million different pictures, and came up with a gorgeous style that was exactly what I wanted but couldn’t articulate!
The morning of my wedding, she did an amazing job and was very sweet and quick. My updo lasted all day, and my hair does not typically hold style well. I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Every trip to Cali, I have Shonia Color & Cut my hair!!! Great place. The shop is peaceful, friendly and has a beautiful garden. They sell some pretty jewelry and sometimes have paintings from a local artist. Shonia is a talented stylist, worth the trip out from Tennessee!

Shonia is a feminine visionary, gentle with etiquette, strong with compassion. She has a gift of encouragement which complimented with her knowledge empowers even the most stylistically out-​of-​date person with the right information and know-​how.
Her eye is fine-​tuned not only for reading hair condition, but is able to determine how far she can take challenged circumstances. She is skilled at matching hair type as well as personality to the face for the most flattering effect.
For Mother’s Day my daughter treated me to a cut and style with Shonia. Several months ago my daughter was in a «bind» with overly coloring her hair and Shonia made herself available for the rescue. My daughter received the cutest haircut she’s ever had at that time and has just thrived with the style Shonia gave her since, so I was prepared to trust her when I came in for the session. After getting my new look all I can say is I’ve been getting compliments everyday on my hair.
The location of the salon is tucked in the middle of a sweet garden nurturing all the senses.

My daughter and her girlfriends had a spectacular time getting pampered at her manicure party at «A Place of Our Own.» The setting is intimate as if the party is held in a private home. Ashley and Breana were wonderful with the girls. They were very accomodating. Many of the moms commented about what a lovely and magical oasis «A Pace of Our Own» is and how relaxed the surroundings made them feel

If you want an expert to color and cut your hair there is no shortage of places you can go to in LA and/​or Orange County. There are beauty schools, budget places, high-​end salons, and all sorts of stylists who can fix your do. However, A Place of Our Own is a little different. It’s special not because of what they do, but because of who they are.
Shonia cuts and colors my hair. I followed her here from her previous location in Long Beach. She was trained at Toni & Guy which is like the Yale or Harvard of hair. She’s good at what she does and she takes it seriously. She understands my curly hair and what I like and how I take care of my hair. She also gives me advice on what kind of products to use and I don’t have to necessarily buy them from her.
The salon and Shonia are unique in the relationship they have with their clients. When you visit the salon tucked away in the back of a tiny garden it’s a peaceful and quiet place. (It’s also dog-​friendly). Getting a haircut can feel like a tiny vacation here.
The way they do business is with the purpose of empowering women. The jewelry, stationary and knick knacks you see on display are all placed there because they support women and causes with meaning. The beautiful jewelry on display right now is a venture that helps liberate women in Southeast Asia from sex trafficking. When I asked Shonia about it, she actually teared up telling me the story. The salon doesn’t take a profit from these sales, they are just supporting an important cause.
It’s not often that you can do something nice for you and give back to someone else at the same time.
