This place is the bomb!!! Love this place! The food is amazing! Service is great! Small place but they treat you like family here! I come here at least once or twice a week! Just like the past reviews said, pick any number and it’ll taste amazing! If only it was a bigger place so I can bring more friends but overall, this place is amazing! Keep it owners and staff!

For such a tiny shop in a run down looking strip mall, this place has AMAZING tangsuyuk and delicious jajang myun. I’m Korean and have eaten at many, many, many, many korean places with so-so results but this place is legit. That’s all I’ve tried so far but I can’t wait to try the rest.

Friendly service and great food! Even though the name has Hunan which one would think Chinese, it is mainly Korean. Lots of entrees to choose from and everything is cooked to order. Prices are reasonable. For example a Bimbimbop or Kimchi Jiggae costs $ 8.99. This is a small family restaurant with one waitress and two cooks. This place is awesome!

I’m a regular customer. I crave their revitalizing Kimchi Jiggae. Great during winter it gives you strength and vitality. You really do feel it from the jalapeño and kimchi spice. You will end up gulping it down like a Ramen addict and feel great for it, I promise. It comes with banchan and a bowl of rice. If you get it to go the flavors will have more time to develop in the container and the portion size is much bigger. You don’t have to try to get this dish at lunch because unlike the other dishes the price is the same on the dinner menu as the lunch special.

We got Bulgogi and marinated chicken take out and were extremely pleased. Don’t let the industrial location stop you from trying this wonderful Korean food.

this place is a great whole in the wall place. the space is really tight but its worth the wait. the busiest time is during lunch. they have one of the best jajjang? myun(black bean noodles) i have ever had. everything there had a homage taste and feel because its a husband and wife place. the wife takes the order and the husband makes all the food. it does take a while to get served but its worth the wait.

This place is amazing for traditional Korean food. I’m going to try all of the lunch specials in the coming weeks. There is so much leftover and the bantan appetizer is the PERFECT touch!!!

Small hole in the wall place and it can get crowded during weekday lunch times so don’t go here expecting great service. There’s usually only one waitress taking orders, serving the food, and doing the register. You have to try their jjambbong and pork gan jjajang. For people who can’t take in a lot of spicy food, I would recommend their white jjambbong. Their jjambbong is loaded with so much seafood and portions are so big you will not leave without feeling satisfied.

First its called Hunan Deli but it really specializes in Korean cuisine and its simply outstanding. The quality is just through the roof for this unassuming, hole-in-the-wall restaurant located in a rather gloomy brown brick strip mall on Telegraph road. Especially given the prices. You’d probably pass by it w/o thinking twice, but that would be your mistake.:) Granted its cramped, not much for comfort space wise but for what they put on your plate who really cares. Each meal of course comes with banchan, the Korean small dishes served first usually comprising of highly seasoned pickled vegetables. Here, you’ll get kimchi, pepper slices seasoned with the red paste, the processed fish strips, and their version of slaw. I usually get spicy pork belly platter or the kimchi soup. Both amazingly satisfying. The staff looks to be mostly Korean in the kitchen but they’ll also get some help as well. Regardless, you’re getting Korean food made by actual Koreans which is often a gripe among NOVAers as to who exactly is making the food in the kitchen. Oh and yes you can clearly see the kitchen from behind the counter, that’s how small this place is. A special acknowledgement here goes to the lady who is the sole waitress. She is awesome and full of hustle. I make sure to always give her a good tip. She deserves one 10 fold as she dodges chairs, tables, coming and going customers in this cramped dinning area to make sure you get your meal. The kitchen staff is awesome as well. And yes you can tell that based on the above they get quite the business during lunch hour. I love this place and there’s no reason you should either especially if you like Korean food.

We love this place! The food is delicious! This is a popular lunch time favorite for many, so be prepared to wait. But the food is worth it!

Best spicy pork in the DC area by far. I’ve gone to all the Korean«hot spots»(honey pig, kogiya, etc.) and this place gives you twice the amount for half the price with all that delicious, spicy flavor. Only tried a couple of other menu items(ja jang myun and bulgogi — both were good too) because it so hard to deviate from this item.

Good food and server/owner was nice. If you want Korean food and don’t want to make that trek to Annandale, this is the place to go.

Best Korean restaurant hands-down in the DC/MD/VA area. I have lived in the area 30+ years and have tried every Korean restaurant that has come and gone — I can honestly say this is the best value, best tasting, homemade-style authentic Korean food you will ever find outside of South Korea. Yes, it’s in the middle of nowhere and its a hole-in-the-wall joint but well worth it for some great Korean food. Stick with your Annandale K-food spots for your mediocre, overpriced Korean cuisine but if you want a taste of what real authentic Korean eats is like in Korea, give Hunan Deli a try — you will not be disappointed!

I always liked this place! Until it changed owners! Yesterday for the 1st time in 4 years I was told that they didn’t sell the Galbi chapae combo meal! Watcha talking about Willis??? I just ordered 1 last month and the months before that! After the phone person was done«yelling» back and forth with whomever was in the kitchen. I got the O. K to buy the Galbi meal that way. Ummmmm really? Needless to say I got 4 little PIECES of Galbi with my Galbi — Jap chae meal. $ 13.00 I paid for that meal! Oh did I say I got 4 little pieces of meat? But I got noodles for days… Can the old owners come back now???

So right next door is Thai box(the thai/cajun infusion) and I love that place. This place confused me. The sign says Hunan Deli so I thought it was some Chinese/Deli infusion. TO my surprise they have korean food here. What? I don’t have to drive all the way to Annandale or bribe my mom into cooking me korean food? OMG! They have kimchi jigae! Surprisingly, it’s not bad! I only had their kimchi jigae and gochu jjahmpong and they were both pretty good. When I told my mom about this hidden gem she came here with my dad and they both got Jja Jjang myun and loved it. Had I known about this place sooner I wouldn’t have had to truck out to Annandale for korean food. Their banchan’s(side dishes) are really good too. Good kimchi too. My brother doesn’t really eat korean food(I know, blasphemy!) but he ate their omurice(fried rice omelette thing) and he really liked it. Next time I think I will try the bulgogi or other korean staples. So two of my favorite«hole in the wall» places right next door to each other. Score!!! Another mom/pop local small business to support! =)

I had the Dolsot Bim Bim Bap and I loved it! It’s served piping hot in the stone bowl and it was delicious down to the last bite! The décor isn’t too fancy once you walk inside and it’s not very big. It’s located in a strip mall off of Telegraph Road and before I was introduced here, I would never think to stop and eat here! But boy am I glad that I discovered this place. It is exactly the kind of place I love finding on Unilocal.A hole in the wall with great Korean food! The staff is super friendly, the wait isn’t too long for your food, and the food is delicious!

I have been a customer since the family run Hunan Deli opened over ten years ago. About three years ago they remodeled and made a more inviting sit down diner for their customers, and I think they also shortened their menu to strictly Korean dishes. I am unashamed to say that I am completely addicted to the rich flavors in the owner/chef’s recipes. Have you ever had food so good you can remember it and nearly smell and taste it weeks later? That’s Hunan Deli. I love all sorts of cuisines and Hunan made me a big Korean food fan. Even so, I have yet to get the same taste from other Korean style restaurants whose prices are double the value as Hunan. If your into sit down fancy restaurants, then try somewhere else, but if you don’t mind eating in a crapped deli(seats 25 tops) or carry out, then you need to experience this amazing food.

I visited here for the first time today. I’ll begin by clearing up the confusion caused by this restaurant’s name. Hunan is a province in China, as is well known. But, the actual name of the restaurant, in Korean characters, and on the front of the establishment, reads: «Ho Nom Restaurant». Ho Nom is the southwest sector of the Korean Peninsula, consisting of North and South Cholla Provinces. The owner lady, and chef, is from North Cholla Province in Korea, and the English rendering of the restaurant name refers to that, her hometown area. So, this place essentially is strictly Korean, although she does offer several Korean versions of Chinese dishes(the black bean noodle soup, and the sweet and sour pork, for instance). I chose«dwenjang jigae», a very popular and traditional Korean dish which is a fermented bean paste stew(Korea’s far more zesty version of Japan’s miso soup). This stew is a hearty, complex mix of bean paste broth, pork slices, big chunks of bean curd and veggies. This is a good test for a Korean restaurant, I’ve found, since cooks who are good at this are usually good cooks in general! I was not disappointed, and it was a delicious meal. The spiced and pickled veggies on the side were tasty, as well. I’d caution, though, that dwengang jigae isn’t for all palates. Korean food has a reputation, to some, as being«smelly» food. This is because of such dishes as kimchi, and other fermented foods, and because so much garlic proliferates Korean cuisine. Be advised that bean paste stew is one of the more pungent of the Korean dishes, and it’s quite spicy(with garlic and red pepper) and salty, too. I’ve attached a photo of my meal, and I give a «thumbs up» to this home-style Korean eatery!
