The food is pretty good, but the service needs some major improvement. I think the servers or the waitresses should focus more on the customers rather than following other waitresses to socialize and avoid customers. I have been here two or three times but the service was terrible for all three times. It does feel like as if the waitresses are trying to avoid the customers, which is totally unacceptable. If Sage could improve their service skills, I believe it has a chance to be a pretty damn good place to eat nearby.

I don’t normally do brunch that often, but I will say that I will be making future trips here. The French toast was fantastic, the drinks were great, and their bacon breakfast pizza was really, really good. Special shout outs to Tyler, Sesal, and Uros for an awesome brunch, as well as Chef Eric, especially for the pizza!

Sage used to be our go-to restaurant in the neighborhood — good menu, reasonably priced, nice enough ambience and service generally. But after the last two visits I don’t think we’ll be returning. The first questionable visit came a few weeks back when we went for dinner. It was a warm night in early Spring, but the temperature in the restaurant was easily hotter than outdoors, unpleasantly so. Made even more unpleasant by the odor of raw meat and fish from the kitchen which was strong enough to smell at the front door on the hot day. Obviously not super appetizing or pleasant as a dining experience in a small space. Then last night we returned for dinner, and they have added live«music» to their menu of offerings. When done well, this can be a cute addition to a neighborhood eatery or pub… this was not done well. Whoever thought booking an act with two electric guitars and duelling loud vocalists in a restauarnt the size of an apartment was a good idea needs to be fired. If that person is the same person who thought this particular act — which consisted of loud rock solos, spoken work poetry about disable bathrooms, and off-color jokes about race — was appropriate for this restaurant(or ANY restaurant), should be fired and blacklisted from the food service industry immediately. Every customer in the place was noticeably cringing and covering their ears and complaining to staff, and nothing was done — in fact the staff seemed to be enjoying the show. Which is the real problem — if you don’t exist to provide experiences your customers want, you can’t expect to keep your customers. Overall, last night was more embarrassing for all concerned than anything, but they lost a customer for sure. Two stars because the food and menu are good, but the dining experience and service keep getting in the way.

I came here for brunch yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the energy of this bright little spot. I normally wouldn’t venture to LIC for food, because let’s be honest, there are countless restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn that have received rave reviews, but I’m glad that I decided to try something new this weekend. Sage manages to serve food that tastes both classic and current in a venue that feels comfortable and upscale at the same time. The wait staff are very friendly(thanks, Emily!), and the kitchen and bar crew work within sight but without the din that typically spills over from the back of house. I was seated immediately at 12:30pm and started things off with a bacon bloody mary. My friends and I shared the fruit salad, trio of bacon, chilaquiles, Wisconsin pizza, and burrito. The food was hot and fresh, seasoned well, and filling. While I would have liked a couple more vegetable-based options or a side of mixed greens for my entrees, I figured the tomato juice in the bloody marys and orange juice in the mimosas we were drinking fulfilled my daily recommended intake of fruits and vegetables. That counts, right? Overall, the food is tasty, the ambience is intimately inviting, and servers are genuinely nice at Sage. I’m looking forward to dining here again and seeing what other seasonal things the restaurant may feature in the future.

Good Lord, the service here was awful on the day I came. It was Sunday afternoon and there were two people working. They covered the bar as well as all of the dining area. We ended up being at the restaurant for seriously 3 hours by the time we sat, got menus, ate and got the check. I understand they were very busy, but they just were not efficient. We waited for a table for about 30 minutes, which was fine, but when we finally sat we waited about 10 minutes for a menu. Getting drinks was like pulling teeth. We waited for about ten minutes once our food was finally delivered for forks. The waitress walked by about three times after we asked for forks — she could have given them to us on one of her trips to the people next to us or something. The meal that my friend ordered included dessert — some kind of brownie with warm sauce and stuff on it. We were there so long, that the restaurant was closing up by the time we were done. Literally hours later, of no fault of our own. We asked about the dessert and it was clear the waitress forgot about it and we said we could just take it to go We were told the kitchen was closed. She took a wrapped brownie from a jar on the counter and told us she couldn’t warm it up or put any of the sauces or anything on it because the kitchen was closed. The food was pretty good, but how can everything covered in bacon not be good? I won’t be back because it was just so much of a pain to be there. I am generally very accommodating and understanding of inattentive service when a place is busy, but this was just over the top. It shouldn’t take that long to have brunch.

Four of us went there for dinner and one of us ended up in a hospital, see #5 below. We were excited to see this restaurant after it went through its little transformation. 1. It is a small cute warm place. 2. The drinks were absolutely underwhelming, an old fashion in particular. It had no ice and tasted bad. They did give us a few strange free super sweet shots that we couldn’t finish. So stick with wine. 3. The menu is a bit odd. Nothing really stands out as dinner. The descriptions do not depict what you are going to get. They really need to make a separate dinner menu and get a bit more wordy with descriptions. 4. The food that we got(two fish specials(Bronzino), steak & kale and one of the specials) was tasty, although Steak and Kale dish was odd. It is not a salad, it comes in a bowl with huge chunks of steak and sporadic kale swimming in a soy sauce liquid. It didn’t come with a spoon or steak knife and/or explanation about what is the best way to enjoy the dish. I love the fact that the restaurant claims to source their produce and meat from local farms, however the menu does not state what items are organic or grass fed except for Amish chicken. I absolutely do not trust their mission after our dinner. 5. The service was not helpful at all in selecting anything. The drinks came late even though it was a super slow night, although, the bartender was pleasant. We asked her to explain a few menu items for us, she tried but her effort was not helpful. She got one of the entrees wrong and didn’t bring the appetizer before the food came out. She forgot to bring a steak knife or a spoon. However, all of the above could be forgotten if the most critical failure didn’t happened. One of my friends has a serious almond and pine nuts allergy. He specifically asked her about any nuts in his Bronzino special. It seemed like she went to the kitchen to confirm with the chef. My friend had a few bites of the side item of the dish and tasted pine nuts. He didn’t even finish the side item. A few hours later he had to go to a hospital with a rather sever allergic reaction. He spent entire night in a hospital. He is ok. For management/owners: it doesn’t look like you guys care about this restaurant. The lack of care shows in the service and in the menu. You created a great mission, it’s sad that the execution of it is failing. We as neighbors would want to support you but after last night it doesn’t seem feasible.

My coworker told me about this place & as I read the menu my mouth was watering. Stopped in on Presidents Day as my BF& I were looking for a local spot that was actually open on Monday. Very cute, intimate, warm spot. It seems I always sit on the cushioned side of the table & the feel like I’m towering over the person across from me. Anywayyyys our server was very responsive, fielded my 853 questions & tolerated my bf’s intermittent dancing. Their music was a great channel or mix. Played a ton of r&b oldies & my BF loved it. So it was BOGO any cocktail, wine or beer for happy hour, perfect! I got the lagerita(marg with a splash of lager) & my BF got the Aunt Roberta(like a fancy Nutcracker it had a ton of liquor). I ended up drinking his drink & he drank mine. He enjoyed it, said it was nice & smooth. The Aunt Roberta packed a punch but was still quite tasty. We shared the Mac n cheese & the coconut shrimp. Enjoyed both. The coconut shrimp were large & breaded lightly, the sauce was a little tangy which was a great pairing. Would definitely order again. The Mac came in a cast iron pan & we dug right in. It was creamy with a little bit of crumbs on top, looked great! BF& I both enjoyed & he only loves baked mac so that was a compliment. BF got the burger which he loved, said he’d reorder. I got the lamb lasagna & it was good. Next time I’d like to try something else. BF got the apple pie for dessert with bourbon whipped cream & it looked yummy. He devoured it. They were out of cornbread & biscuits *double sigh* would def have loved to try those. Next time I think I’ll just order a bunch of small plates & there was more variety there than in the entrees.

Great food at a great price! Love their Mac and cheese, sandwiches and chicken dishes. Salads are a little pricey. Friendly staff with a very laid back Brooklyn appeal. Please bring back the steak with blue cheese sandwich :-)

Nice little restaurant. Nice server. Really good food! We’ve been here for lunch and dinner. I’ve had the ½ Amish Chicken slathered with Delicious herbs… loved it! the chicken was very moist and flavorful. also a large portion. I absolutely loved the truffle fries… u must get if you love fries!!! BF also had the chicken but he had the brussel sprouts with bacon on the side and really liked them… i’m not a fan of brussel sprouts BUT these were really good… enough bacon to give them such a nice taste! I had the mac n cheese on the side. also soo good. nice portion as well. I also had the ginger mint tea and it was delicious. Dessert a vanilla cupcake… made in-house and was very fresh. we will def continue to come here!

A pretty generic little restaurant. Max 20 tables with a bar counter. Found the dinner menu a little lacking, nothing creative or original to be honest. But my friend who lives around the corner says that they’re more known for their brunch menu with a line that’s usually out the door and around the corner. We ordered: Chicken salad sandwich with fries — solid, standard sandwich. More of a lunch menu item. Burger with fries — they ran out of burger buns(…) so I settled for sourdough. Asked for medium and got well-done. Over salted fries. They had a lot of delivery orders, it seems, during the time we were there so they must be doing well. We had dinner during one of the holiday nights so the restaurant was empty except for us. Waitress was attentive until a couple of people came in for drinks and then it took about 30 mins for her to pick up our check… Overall, nothing special, nothing terrible. Would review again if I stop by for brunch.

After seeing my poor Unilocal review, the owner called up a coworker of mine and offered to give her a discount if she could convince me to take it down. Here’s a great idea Sage. how about you offer me a free meal or a discount to take it down? Which I absolutely will not now and everything I wrote still stands true. We ordered from you guys today and gave us the side salad, but forget the sandwich. Nice.

The cayenne mac n’cheese was pretty freaking tasty! I have been looking for a macncheese place in the LIC area and i must say, I’m pleased that i stumbled across Sage The General Store! The cayenne pepper was just the right amount and the 5 cheeses were plentiful. This macncheese is very creamy and tastes homemade, just what i was looking for. I thought $ 12 for the order was a bit on the high end for lunch but the container came jam packed and the portion was way more than what i expected and certainly more than a lunch portion. This is good for sharing! Can’t wait to try their other flavors of mac n’cheese since their menu differs!

Went here for Saturday brunch and was better than I expected. Ordered the Blue Plate Special(roasted chicken with a side of mac and cheese). Chicken was really juicy and seasoned well. Would come back here again just for that. The sauce for the mac and cheese seemed a bit watery to me– ate less than half of it. GF had the Big Mess Sandwich which was pretty good also. That bacon is something special. Egg was folded and a little dry, looked like it was from an Egg McMuffin from McDonalds. The $ 15 all you can drink special is worth it… if you sit at the bar. I was able to get 4 drinks in like 30 minutes just because the bartender would refill it almost immediately. The bloody mary isn’t anything to write home about, and they fill the glass with a lot of ice so you can only get like 3 – 4 sips til its empty. I’d still come back for the chicken and bacon.

Came here for Sunday brunch on Fathers Day. We had booked, which proved useful as after we arrived they were turning parties away as they were at full capacity. I had the Big Mess Sandwich, which I was really impressed with. The portion was huge! I struggled to eat both sides of the biscuit. I believe they also do a 3 course brunch, which looked amazing from the dishes I saw bring brought out, but we couldn’t fit in that much food, but maybe next time! We had a nice seat on a high table in the window, tucked out of the way. Service was slow, but we didn’t mind as we weren’t in any rush. Would definitely eat here again. I didn’t even know this place existed in my neighbourhood, but my husband saw it on diners, drive-ins and dives so wanted to try it. I am glad we did!

Last night I had a solo dinner here. It was lovely and delicious. I came specifically because I wanted a good pizza, and looking online this seems the place to go. I ordered a San Marzano(basil, mozzarella, evoo) pizza, and it was so tasty! It came fresh from the oven, so hot, that cheese and tomatoes sauce were falling out of the crust, like the real Italian, from Italy, pizzas. I had to cut with fork and knife the top of each triangle to not making a mess. I eat the all pie, it was filling, but perfectly light at the same time. The place is really calm and relaxing, with candles, a good looking bar, and in general a comfy atmosphere. I will definitely come back to try other meals. This is a must go place in LIC, MoMA PS1 neighborhood.

We came here for brunch with the kids. The place itself is small and the tables are a bit close together so your also intimate and hearing the other tables conversation. I wouldn’t bring a big group here maybe a nice spot to catch up with a friend. Even maybe if your local a spot for you and your significant other can eat at occasionally. Our waitress didn’t even tell us the special, which was a disappointment or maybe she did I just wasn’t listening since I was reading the menu as she was talking. Oops, anyway I ordered the Risotto and added bacon since it just had veggies the platter. I also ordered the raspberry lemonade which was served in a mason jar. I liked how the place was rustic and inviting. They had a brick oven which I was hoping to try their pizza. It is only available for dinner time. The food: The risotto wasn’t that good. The rice was el dente and lacked something, even though I had bacon in it. I mostly picked at the bacon and couldn’t really finish the dish. I like risotto and I’ve had way better from my favorite spot, Elio’s on the upper east side of Manhattan. I would not order the risotto again from Sage General Store. My kids had the mac and cheese: I think it had 4 different kind of cheeses and my daughter wasn’t into it at all. I tasted it and was ok with it. Not too memorable for me. The drink: The raspberry lemonade was bitter and not sweet at all. I tolerated it since I do have to cut back on the sweets. I really liked how they served in a mason jar and the color of the drink but that was it. I also wouldn’t order this again.

Came here from brunch around 11am and which was early enough to claim the seats by the window! Who doesn’t like to people watch AND be in an air conditioned room at the same time? The Wisconsin pizza was a really good brunch choice. It didn’t have the classic taste of pizza but the crème fraîche and bacon with the flat crunchy crust made it a good breakfast meal. It doesn’t give you the same bloated heavyness of a regular pizza slice would(not that it’s bad! I love pizza) and feel like you really need to nap afterwards. The BLT had the right ratio of bacon, lettuce and tomato. You can’t see it in the photo but it has just enough butter on the bread it made it crispy. Next time, I might try the bacon brunch instead since it seems like bacon is the theme here. :)

During an especially boring jury duty session at the LIC central jury room, I decided to browse potential lunch spots on Unilocal(I’m a Unilocaler like that). Saw the free cupcake with check-in at Sage General Store and then and there knew where I’d be eating. It’s a cute little space, I sat at a high table at the window and enjoyed the brightness(even though it was a gloomy rainy day). I got the Texas cowboy steak — steak on flatbread and enjoyed it immensely. The flatbread was nice and toasted, steak was cooked well, onions were caramelized, and watercress gave it a very fresh taste. Only wish that the ‘spicy Chipotle mayo’ was actually spicy/had more taste. When I checked in, I got a free red velvet cupcake that was super yummy and actually cupcake sized(I was picturing a teeny tiny free one). The cake was moist and sweet(as a cupcake should be) and the cream cheese frosting was delectable. Had to get a tea though because it was so sweet. Overall, pleasant lunch that made my jury duty day better.

I have eaten here several times. Some of my meals have been great(such as the breakfast pizza). However every time, I will say the service has been mediocre to poor. The servers are always nice, but something always seems to go wrong with my order. This place has so much potential but seems to miss the mark all too often. Let me paint a picture of my last meal. My girlfriend and I both order a sandwich and side salad and«a coffee». I added chicken to my sandwich. The food arrived about 15 minutes later prior to our coffees. My side salad had the chicken rather than the sandwich. They took it back and slapped on some tiny pieces of tepid chicken. When our coffees came they were in standard coffee cups, mine was half full, my gf’s was a 2⁄3 full. Also the coffee was tepid as well. My gf’s chicken salad sandwich was pretty blan. The worst part was the are NOREFILLSONCOFFEE. When I go to eat, and I order a house coffee that should mean all the fucking coffee I can drink. I later see the bill: 2LARGECOFFEES. Wtf!!! $ 2.50 per coffee and now refills? Shoulda gone to the diner. You guys really are not all that. Your staff is not all that. Please be better, I am not mad, but more so disappointed. Ps: I write this review drinking a French press a made at my house. And if I want to make myself another. I just fucking might.

They have organics & vegan treats as well. They also have a brick oven which is pretty cool. The decorations all around are so nice & it feels like home. I came here with my boyfriend for lunch before class & we ordered mac n cheese & hazelnut cake for dessert. I loved them both. The Mac n cheese was so cheesy. I really recommend this place for a date or simply just catching up with friends.

I’ve been meaning to check this place out for a while given my proximity to it. I think the 3.5 stars on Unilocal delayed the urgency. After trying it for the first time today… I’m glad I went. Food is great here. Haven’t read any previous reviews but my dining experience was good. Trapped in the front in a dinky corner where the curtain kept falling but that didn’t bother me. Space is tight in this place. The ginger mint tea was good, although I didn’t really taste the ginger. The big mess sandwich was bangin. Soft omelette with bacon on top over a giant biscuit with hash browns and fruit. I think some country gravy would have made it even better. The triple d half chicken with the 5 cheese Mac was really good. Chicken was moist. Skin was crispy and tasty. The Mac n cheese was great. Not sure why it’s a 3.5 but I’d come here again and again for sure.
