I’m mostly going to be +1ing what other people have said, but this place deserves more recognition. I grew up on Americanized Chinese Food. I’m used to general Tso’s, cashew chicken, and lots of grease and sweetness. I have since been to more genuine Cantonese and Szechuan restaurants and found that I almost always prefer those. City Café, in some sense, offers the best of both worlds. Some times, you really want Chinese food and this is the only quality place in the vicinity of Long Island City(and it’s in Sunnyside, at that). Fortunately, they deliver. And their delivery person has a car so service is fast. They do both American-style and more traditional Cantonese-style. But whichever way you go, they don’t overgrease or over-soy sauce it like all the hole-in-the-wall Chinese places in the area. Moreover, they seem to use good quality ingredients as their vegetables are always impressive. I’m a huge Asian noodle soup fan and always get their tripe noodle soup. The beef broth is delicious. The tripe is cooked perfectly. The noodles have good texture. The veggies give it a good texture. I have also been very happy with their been curd with black musroom and vegetable, their diced chicken with eggplant, and their house special preserved pork. They also have Thai dishes which I wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot pole. I have only ever ordered delivery from City Café, but I really wish I had known about them when I used to drive by them. The truck at Hunter’s Point and Van Dam has good hot dogs, but City Café truly hits the spot.
