Excellent local sushi spot. Lunch specials are great deals for sushi(12 pieces for $ 9, 18 pieces for $ 12); really high quality stuff. Love the gyoza(pork dumplings) too. Check this place out; you will not be disappointed.

Obsessed with this place! I was looking to try a new sushi joint for my birthday a year ago… found Aji… and now we go here for most family birthdays and special occasions. We were just in last night for my birthday and they always do a great job. Very accommodating, quick service and the food is superb. We have tried many different dishes here and they have all been exceptional. Not to mention, the pricing is unbeatable for the portions and quality. And it’s a BYOB! Highly recommend

Well… the problem is they do not understand English very well, nor can they make themselves understood… We spent $ 100 on a delivery order, and one meal, that was $ 23.00 was completely the wrong meal. it was King of the Sea and what I ordered was Chilean Sea Bass… When I called one hour after delivery to complain,. all she kept saying was that I ordered King of the Sea, and finally, I told her we would NEVER again order from them and hung up! The food is about a 3 in taste, zero in service!

Wow Unilocal has truly let me down this time. Had a coupon for 15% off for this place so we decided to get some Hibachi delivery after reading 4 and 5 star reviews on this restaurant. Keep in mind my family has been eating and ordering hibachi from many difference places all over the central Monmouth county area for many years now. Had our good experiences and our so so experiences but this place was the worst one in a very long time. The«hibachi» was just a bunch of different veggies and some overcooked steak thrown in a container. No flavor what so ever, they don’t even provide you with side sauces like Ginger and mustard like other places do. The ONLY reason I gave this place 2 stars was because we ordered a side of Ebi Shrimp(i mean you cant really mess up shrimp over white rice) and it was fine. If you are hibachi type of person I DONOTRECOMMENDTHISPLACE! STEERCLEAR, ITSHOTGARBAGEON A PLATE!

Aji is the best sushi restaurant around! Fresh and delicious sushi, beautiful presentation, and friendly owners! Very pretty restaurant and BYOB too. Aji’s rolls are very unique, and they have great sashimi too, including my favorite — sweet shrimp! The sushi chefs create masterpieces with the sushi and sashimi that are different every time — I included some photos below. I highly recommend Aji!

This place has a great lunch special. I definitely left the restaurant stuffed. I got the Beef Negimaki(Bento-box type special) and boy was it absolutely delicious! It was so good that I actually tried to make some at home the next day(I was craving it too much!). For dessert, I tried their Tempura Fried Ice Cream. It was pretty good, but the sugar in the batter was too grainy. All in all, I had a good experience here. Whenever I’m around the area, I would definitely come back.

I came here for dinner last week. The waiters could not speak very good English and asked us if we were ready to order too many times. But the food came out pretty quickly and it was good. The paradise roll was my favorite it was very unique with fried banana inside it. The other rolls were all just good nothing more or less. I also got to try vegetable hibachi which was fine but very drenched with sauce. The pad Thai was good, didn’t compare to Thai restaurants though. Overall I liked it, but not enough compared to some other places I have been like Sogo sushi and Yumi.

I have been here a few times and thought it was fine. Took my mother here tonight and they served me rancid toro. I couldn’t even bite through it, and it smelled awful. I politely told the waitress that it wasn’t fresh and I couldn’t eat it(I hadn’t even taken a bite). She asked me twice what was wrong and after several discussions with the manager, offered me 10% off the bill but no credit for the uneaten toro. The 10% was half of the price of the toro. Never eating here again. Everyone has an off night, but how can you charge a customer for bad fish that wasn’t eaten?

So parking is tight, but believe me when you find parking and actually walk in you won’t regret it… Pulling up I was a little skeptical, but like I said once you walk in the atmosphere is amazing and the waiters are diligent and respectful… Now the food that’s a whole other topic. Fantastic

Went to Aji’s with a group of five people for a birthday celebration. We didn’t make a reservation and they were very accommodating. We started with the edamame which were perfectly cooked and yummy! We all ordered sushi which everyone raved about. Each dish looked better than the other! A+ for presentation! The food was fresh, tasty and gratifying. We all finished with various desserts of green tea ice cream, fried banana and tempura ice cream. ALL scrumptious. It was clean, the waitresses were all very nice, attentive and the prices were reasonable. Very satisfied. Can’t wait to go back!

Great atmosphere! The first time I ate here was for a very early dinner /late lunch around 4 when the sun was going down. Sat in an indoor outdoor area. Fresh fish in their sushi rolls. The next time I came with my fiancé and we sat at the same location at night. A bit chilly in the winter but warmed up quickly with some red wine. The Kani salad was unbelievable and the miso soup had great flavor. I would say this is a big competition for IZU

Finally, flavorful sushi spot with cool ambience. Small, modern updated interior, attracting young mature couples or friends. The Magic Roll, Dynamite Roll and the Soba Noodles with beef did not disappoint. The right texture and temperature allow each ingredient of the sushi rolls to be identified and enjoyed. Added creative garnishments and presentation really elevate this local sushi spot above others. Owners are visible and involved. BYOB

I was on my way to Izu, another local sushi place, with a date when this caught my eye. I was distracted eating at Izu, thinking about what Aji could be. It was staring at me through the window, calling me like a siren’s song from my ship. Well, not really. I was just curious, and it looked more interesting. So I did(without a lady this time). I walked in to what felt more like an upscale, urban bar than sushi dig, in a good way. The décor is contemporary, with neutral grays offset by mood-lighting. The main wall is adorned with some stonework and a giant«AJI» logo. Fun fact: «Aji» means«Taste» in Japanese, fitting for a place with a good flavor from the start. This is far from a traditional Japanese restaurant though, given there are«Asian fusion» dishes on the menu, likely adopted from a multicultural staff(as with most Japanese places on the east coast). However, it is clear that sushi is the focus. You can tell right away sitting at the sushi bar that these chefs have a bit more than the usual rice roller. They took their time, but were never lost dilly-dallying or wasting time in between orders. That being said, they were friendly enough to say hello when I sat down, asking how I was and if I had visited before. The waitress followed in similar fashion, being prompt, polite, and a touch flirty dropping a compliment on my wear. Speaking of compliments, the complimentary tea was a nice way to start out the meal. While waiting for my order, the manager walked over and introduced herself. She made a great first impression, having knowledge of the area, asking interesting questions, and just promoting a comfortable atmosphere. Chatting for a couple minutes helped the time pass, even though it was a relatively fast turn-around. I had my order within 15 minutes at most. My «Fire Island» and sweet potato roll arrived on a rhombus-shaped plate, garnished with Wasabi mayo and eel sauce for decorative effect. The subtleties really made these rolls great. The sweet potato roll, pretty standard at most places, was a little bigger than usual, and adorned with two-tone sesame seeds. The Fire Island had just the right fish-to-rice-to-sauce ratio, which is a plus when most restaurants use far too much or too little. Everything is in the details. Not to mention, the fish tasted crisp and fresh, especially the shrimp, which retained its distinctive taste instead of being drowned out by the batter(Hey Izu, take a few tips!) This place rides on the pricey-er side of sushi. Most special rolls are $ 13, with some going up to, but never passing $ 15. The regular maki and nigiri is around a dollar or two more than most Japanese places as well. However, I think the quality speaks for itself, along with the additional detail thrown into the presentation. Add on quality service and friendly employees, and the price is justified in my opinion. And, they deliver all the way to my town, about 6 miles away, which is a huge perk since the competition won’t even consider delivery. Right on Aji, right on.
