Apparently they are now Out of Business Kinda Sad food was good staff was nice a bit undertrained I thought their coffee was super also that they had a passion for a unique coffee house but not for business

Here is my issue with Sipology. If you are a coffee and tea house you really should brew your iced tea. Nope, their iced tea is from a machine, like fountain soda… weird. Also, you should know what is in your baked goods. As in me «…are these scones made with all natural ingredients» the coffee girl«ummmm, I think so, we, like, don’t bake them ourselves, but I think she would like, ummm, use only natural ingredients». I also think there is quite a bit of humor in the fact that their hours can vary and they close for«changing the art».

This was a great cup of coffee, and a delicious sandwich. A little expensive, but the gallery made the place for me– super unique.

ENVIRONMENTLYFRIENDLY??? I have a rule — I dont partonize a place that won’t keep its business neat and clean. They have 7 trash cans outside on temple with graffitti and always full(city ordiance is that no trash cans are to be visualable). The street gutter is always full of trash and sidewalk is dirty. Other coffee houses make sure that the gutters are clean, that there are no large trash cans and the sidewalks are clean. I want to like this place, but I can’t help if they dont respect the neighborhood cleanliness and people that live there. Especailly for SUPPOSED to so environmently freindly!

I would not go out of my way to come here. We live in the neighborhood and for what it’s worth. there are better coffee houses out there. My spouse and I came in on a Saturday afternoon. Nice and quiet. I ordered a no brainer italian soda and a slice of cake. My husband had a blended mocha from I recall. The coffee drink was horrendous. Very bitter. hardly any chocolate. I noticed the one lone barista there seemed like he wanted to be anywhere but there. I am sorry… if you are not feeling well, or having an off day. stay home. It’s been twice in and twice same experience. WHEREINTHEHECKTOTHEYFINDTHESEHEAVILYMEDICATEDFLATAFFECTEDINDIVIDUALSTOWORKWITHTHEPUBLIC? It’s a no go. I’d rather go to Hot Java… I may be a straight woman going into a primarily gay coffee house, but I will get a smile and some personality behind the counter and a quality food or drink. This little coffee house has loads of potential. but at this point. ahhh no.

Good coffee, nice staff, clean bathroom, nice sandwiches, I mean paninis. The only parking is in the neighborhood behind, so don’t wear your highest heels.

I’ve been to this Sipology location twice. once when they first opened. the service was slow and the coffee wasn’t even great… but I wanted to give them another chance. I ventured here again before going into the office. I arrived. 1 customer sitting and no one at the counter… it took several minutes before someone greeted me. I ordered a bagel w/cream cheese and iced latte. The iced latte came out pretty quickly. but then they ran out of cream cheese so he just gave me the bagel. Disappointed int he service here…

OK, I want to preface this by saying I’ve got PLENTY experience in the café/service industry. I didn’t stay more than 10 minutes in this place. I’m new to the Long Beach area so I Google mapped«bagels» since that was what I was in the mood for. Maybe an espresso drink, too. This place came up, and was within a 5 block walk. The place seemed nice, only mildly steady business. There was less than 15 people sitting in, and only one person in line ahead of me. When it came my turn to order, I stated I was looking for a list of types of bagels served. «Well we’ve run out of bagels,» replied the tall disaffected order-taker. Looking at my phone, it was only 11:30AM. «It’s not even noon, the menu sign behind you says ‘bagel’ at least 10 times, and you’ve run out?» Tall attendant shrugs. «Well we got a morning rush, and now we’ve run out. I can make a breakfast sandwich on a croissant instead.» Now, working in cafes as long as I have, at this point I knew this wasn’t my kind of place. I don’t think it’s unreasonable that a café that comes up when you Google ‘bagel’ should have at least a few selections left before noon, even on a busy Saturday… which had clearly died down before I even arrived. Especially if you sell enough to make breakfast sandwiches on your menu. I’d tend to think you’d be much better prepared. I really doubt that I’m just spoiled, seems like common sense. I think the attendant’s(I’m EXTREMELY hesitant to call him a barista) complacent attitude ultimately makes me not want to go back ever. In fact, I walked down the street to Portfolio instead and got a much better experience. And a bagel, to boot.

I have to give a fair update to my review of Sipology on Temple. I’ve been coming here consistently since they opened and they’ve worked through their growing pains. You’ll have to pardon most of the artwork that ends up on the walls here — their curator lacks a reasonable ability to censor the artists. Some installations are remarkably successful, while others will leave you thinking someone was yanking your chain(s) ;-) The sunshades on the windows really makes this place more inviting and more hospitable for working. The bathroom is clean(er). The staff here, like most LB coffee shops, are awesome — they are even a bit faster than most other places!

It was my first time going there… at first I was nervous to walk in because I was confused by the dark windows and it said also gallery so I didn’t want to walk into some art gallery when I really just need is some good coffee… so when I walked in I was relived =] Its a coffee shop with art and I think has art displays(I saw some in the walls… very distracting in a good way while waiting for your mourning coffee) and they have music night. didn’t really pay attention I just really needed my coffee this mourning LOL so I got the almond something latte but on ice… omg its soo good! of course my hard core a$$ got an extra espresso shot and it was still so good… I think I’m going to be a regular now hehehe oh and yes staff is friendly! I was just so sleepy she prolly thought I was rude. when all I needed was coffee lol

I dig this place. Coffee shops can go either way for me. I seems like most places I find have killer coffee and no ambiance, or ambiance and weak sludgy coffee. Sipology has both– not to mention free wifi and an art gallery! The kicker for me is that it’s a very comfortable place. When I sit down there I can sink into either the work I’m doing on my laptop or the book I’m reading and I don’t feel like I need to hurry up. It reminds me of student study at a college– and understandably so as it seems like that’s what it’s used for half of the time.

Came here after having some delicious Italian down the street. I really like the set up inside with the art on the wall and music. However, as many other people are saying, seating is limited. But I showed up around 8 and it was nearly empty. I ordered the Mexican Mayan Mocha which was delicious. Good place to bring a book if you can find seating and listen to nice live music. Only negative is the 15 cent charge using credit/debit cards…

This location has similarities to the East Village location. Unfortunately, they are the same negative ones that keep me away from that location even though I work around the corner. Cons: My primary complaint is the staff. They always seem preoccupied by their thoughts of being somewhere else. Well you are here now so at least be nice and say please and thank you to your customers. The place is way too warm, windows could use some blinds. Its small so seating is limited, although you can sit outside. Wasteful-I ordered three bagels to go, and they were put in three separate bags without even asking if they were separate orders. Pros– the Bagels are quite good, although they didn’t have any plain bagels. They had a nice art exhibit on the wall to distract you from the rude service. Its nice to have a place to get bagels around the corner, but please treat your customers a little better or get another job.

This place compared to their downtown location is just way too small. The seating is a bit limited and can only accommodate so many people, but it’s a good cozy place to sit and have a cup of coffee or tea if you can get a seat. Still, their drinks are good and it has that art gallery type vibe that I like. I would come here more often if there was more room to study, but I don’t think that’s an option unless they add an upstairs like the other location!

I went to Sipology for my first time last night and LOVED it. Every Wednesday night they have a singer/songwriters night from 7:30pm to 10:00pm called the Hum House showcasing some really talented, local artists. I sipped on a delicious mocha as I experienced some of the best live music I have heard in a long time. The staff was super friendly, the place was nice and clean and the crowd was filled with really cool people. I LOVE that someone has organized a music night at a coffee shop, it is a nice change from the bar scene. I will definitely be coming back!

As I’d said, my unfortunate experience wasn’t beyond repair. And they repaired it. I’m still hesistant to go on a Saturday, lest I get my feelings hurt again. But dudes, you can never let your regulars feel like chumps while trying to give you money. And if you don’t know the customer is a regular… don’t let them feel like a chump anyway. Pay attention to the customer and what’s up with them. You see they have a kid whose patience is not great? Make a special effort to wait on them sooner. But Mike G is a dedicated, cool dude who I root for, along with his Sipology outpost, so go see them!

Just another coffeehouse, only lacking the quality control and friendly customer service one would expect from a neighbor… Some tips to the proprietor… If you serve me tepid coffee, please just warm it up. Do not ask me how much cream I used(2 squirts) or explain that you keep your creamer thermos in the refrigerator so the cream is too cold and so it cooled off the coffee which you brew at 200° because it’s calibrated. Who cares? If you have a problem with your system, then fix it. Don’t give excuses. Complete your orders in the order you receive them. There was no one in line ahead of me, yet you completed a complex order for two customers who came in after me, and took a personal phone call before you even started mine. It should not take 10 minutes to make a cappuccino. I wanted to fish my 90¢ tip out of the jar. Neighbors like me who can easily walk to your establishment are your primary customer base. Be pleasant to them – or fake it, at least. I’ll walk a little farther to The Library instead.

Meh. The place is small and seating is quite limited. If you want to hang out in your neighborhood coffee shop this is not the place. No place to tie up the dogs, either. I ordered a latte and was asked if I wanted to try a «specialty coffee.» I declined. The guy asked again. I said no and was starting to get irked. Do they not respect their customers? He said he’d make me a free replacement if I didn’t like it. I explained that I do not like any flavorings in my coffee. He persisted. Finally, I had to tell him that I would run screaming from the room if I had to drink flavored coffee. He was not at all interested in selling me a latte, but he finally did. Do I have to go through this routine every time? Really makes me not want to go back. I just wanted a latte. BTW: it was fine but nothing to write home about. I think that there are four tables. All but one was occupied and the empty one was dirty. There is one couch which held a woman describing her car accident to the insurance company. I didn’t want to hear that as I was having coffee but the place is so small, there was no escaping it. Might as well make my latte at home where it tastes just as good, costs a lot less, come complete with dog, and no pushy salesman at the cash register.
