Unbelievable eatery, Art is an artist when it comes to creativity combined with seafood. The Ceviche is awesome, Ahi Poke is one of our favorites and the sweet potato fries are like none we have ever had, so delicious. We can’t wait until their restaurant addition opens soon. Thank you Roe Restaurant & Fish Market for bringing great seafood to 2nd Street!

After drooling over the Unilocal pics all afternoon, I decided to take my family to Roe to sample some of the delicacies. I ordered the salmon plate with seaweed salad and ponzu brown rice. Not sure what it is about ponzu and rice but i love that combo. You can buy the seaweed salad by the pound. I think they probably give you a quarter pound as a side? Don’t quote me on that, though. Mine was really really good. Came with a side of tartar sauce. Husband got the clam chowder in a bread bowl. I was a little disappointed with it. It was not creamy at all and didn’t have a whole lot of taste. The bread bowl was good — soaked up the soup really nicely… but the soup really wasn’t thick enough to begin with. Got my daughter the kids quesadilla with chips and she ended up eating half my meal and half of hers. I’ll finish hers for a snack later! ha! Complimentary water and casual outside seating. A few seats inside at the bar looking out on the street. Fun location — but parking can be tricky if it’s a busy time. I think they have free parking in the back but we parked on the street. Service was friendly and I definitely want to go back to try the tacos. Someone else had gotten the calamari tacos and my eyes were drawn to them… even though I had just eaten. My husband said their seafood is sustainable — which makes me want to frequent there even more. I wouldn’t mind purchasing fish from their market to grill this summer. Looks really fresh and, as I said, sustainable.

This was our first time at ROE… we love fish and decided to try it out we usually eat at other places on 2nd street in Long Beach but made a effort to visit here this past sunday for lunch: My husband ordered our food: I grabbed a table outside: He came back and said lunch was $ 45 and some change: I didn’t think about it but now I have time to figure it out: Will we be back NOTSURE… he ordered the fried cod fish and chips $ 12.00… we also ordered the seaweed salad $ 6… we ordered 2 sodas $ 5 …total so far $ 23.00 …ok so this is the rough part… I ordered a burrito with grill cod with the trimmings that go in it… I hardly had any fish in the burrito: it was packed with beans more seaweed and cole slaw and rice: …remember the BILL was $ 45.00 that burrito cost us $ 19.00 plus tax totals $ 45.00 …I have never paid $ 19.00 for a burrito… I wished I was at the register so I could have asked WHYSOMUCH… I should have taken it back and showed the owner… and asked where is the $ 19 dollars worth of fish… anyhow thats what happened…

Parking really isn’t an issue here since it’s located at the lesser busier end of 2nd St. If you’re not a local, don’t forget to stop by Long Beach’s «Horny Corner» which is around the corner and down the street. It’s 2 hour parking in front of the store with a meter. I only«bought» 25 min of time.(Ha, buying time!) It took less than that to get my food. I had the shrimp po boy and the clam chowder. I loved the garlicyness of the po boy bread but it could have been on better bread,(cmon, the bread/dough on anything can either make or break your item, guys!). The cole slaw was sparse inside too. I thought the fried shrimp was okay, nothing to write home about. No complaints on the portion size, plenty of big shrimp. They did recommend the chowder or the calamari fries with my po boy. I went with the chowdah. They did good on the chowdah, I must say. Got a small, now I know to get a bigger one next time. They only gave me one bag of crackers. Maybe they would’ve given me 2 no problem if I would’ve asked. I thought the service from the employees was friendly. I still have to try their calamari fries and fish & chips. I’d return. Oh, and definitely have a Pellegrino(Pomegranate) to go.

Best seafood this side of the Mississippi. I hear they’re opening a full service restaurant soon, which makes sense, because the food they’re serving is way too good to be just part of a fish market. We hit up Roe after the aquarium, naturally, and despite the freezing temperatures outside(NYD), we stuck it out — the Unilocal pics were too good. Per usual, but not to be regretted, we overordered. Fisherman’s stew, garlic bread, seafood bahn mi, calamari, and fish and chips. Everything down to the chips with the sandwich were crazy good. We even sampled the ahi because there wasn’t enough food on our bar space already. Melt in your mouth. And, it’s the only place I’ve seen sell fresh grouper. We don’t live in Belmont Shore, but I wish we do now.

I am so happy Roe is open again! Always a parking spot available right in front because it’s on the far end of 2nd street. Kumamoto oysters for cheap while I wait for my perfectly grilled fish. These guys know fish. And I like that I know where it comes from. They recommended the locally-caught halibut today and it was wonderful. Great sweet potato fries, too. I like sitting on the bar stools and watching people walk by while I eat and enjoy a coconut water. Will enjoy the outdoor tables on the sidewalk when it’s warmer. This is my go-to place for fast, high quality food.

ROE has reopened with new investors and still the same great Chef Art Gonzalez! We came by to check it out and only the fish market was currently open, we had an extremely fresh Cevicho’s poke style which was to die for! They also have a pretty spectacular offering of Fresh Fish to purchase at the Fish Market, check it out you won’t be disappointed.

Did anyone actually think this place was going to make it? Raw fish off a food truck with tables on the street. This was a new low for a location in which homeless people camp out at when night falls.

Amazing poke(large portion too) served with chips. The clam chowder was average — I personally like mine very chunky. This was a little watered down but worth ordering. The oyster po– boy was HUGE(worth splitting) and so-so the fried oysters weren’t as crunchy as I would have liked. I’ll definitely be coming back when the store opens to try more on the menu. Great service too. Everyone was extreme friendly.

I was starving one night and after reading reviews about Roe’s, decided to head over with a friend. On the way, I managed to work up a GIANT craving for their poke and lobster banh mi and calamari fries(though I’ve never tried them). I had it all planned out in my head! So imagine how disappointed I was when I drove by a little before 9 and there was no one there! Closed restaurant, closed truck, empty lot. Both Unilocal and their website said it was open! Open 7 days a week til 10pm. Tried calling, but no answer. A few days later, I tried again. I’m all for second chances, but once again, closed and no truck. It would’ve been nice to to know this place was closed before making the trek out there and the cravings hit! A simple phone/Yelp/website message would’ve sufficed. Now it’s finally listed as temp closed — better late than never.

This place was such a disappointment. Maybe I came on an off day, but it certainly was not 4 star worthy. I ordered the Calamari fries and the Poke. The calamari was DELICIOUS. It was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I didn’t care much for the sauce, so I got a side of cocktail sauce instead… The cocktail sauce was overpowering and consisted of nothing but raw horseradish. The poke was a huge letdown. It was flavorless. The tuna itself was not properly prepared– lots of chewy muscular sections. All in all, I am glad I got to try it, but calamari isn’t enough to make me a returning customer.

I came here on two separate occasions — both times got different varieties of tacos. I have tried the calamari taco, poke taco, and the cod(not black cod but some type of cod). As I write this review, my mouth is salivating and why oh why do I only have double digits in my bank account. UGHH The poke taco is different, as the poke was seared on one end! It was super flavorful and very very fresh tasting. I was super taken aback as I didn’t know food can get thaaaaaaaat fresh. Damn. My mouth was super happy. Great flavors, pretty different tasting from Bear Flag, but eat it– your tongue will thank you. The calamari taco was also yummy. It was crispy and it wasn’t oily and the calamari eaten by themselves were delicious. The sauce I think they could go lighter on but this was good textures and flavors all around. Recommend this too. The other fish one I don’t really recall, but it was also good! Their pico de gallo is SOFREAKING fresh tasting — I LOVEITTTT. Next time I come by, I’m definitely trying a shrimp taco, their clam chowder, and other various things. If I wanted to be good, one taco would make me satisfied. If I wanna be full, two tacos would satisfy. The good thing is that if you get two tacos, you get double the deliciousness. The things I also love about this place is that it’s not super inside Belmont shore, parking is plentiful both inside the neighborhood and they have their own private parking, and the prices aren’t horrible. I definitely know I’m paying for qualitiy. Though it’s not a $ 1.50($ 4 regular price) taco, nor do they have taco tuesday, those things can be looked over as the taste of their food, and the sincere service from the workers are just magical. The female worker asked me how my taco was and gave me suggestions and was just really friendly. lol as corny as this may sound.yeah. my heart lies with Roe.

This place was YUM to the MY. I walked here and saw the under construction sign and was heart broken but they actually have their food truck on location until they reopen. I had the poke plate. The portion was out of this world and was great for 14 bucks. The rice, seeweed, and poke filled the entire plate. The poke chunks were the biggest I’ve ever seen and tasted very fresh. Service was also great. They know how to treat customers to have them coming back. I had enough left overs for a second meal. Will be back to try the Lobster Banh Mi or the oyster po boy.

This review is for the temporary food truck while the restaurant is under construction. I found this place thru Unilocal and didn’t realize it was under construction until I was reading the tips that it’s a temporary food truck, all while bf is driving there. *aw shit! Food truck? Bf is kind of a princess about his eating habitat. We’ll just go with the flow… BAM! It’s the truck right there on 2nd and Claremont! Thank god someone was leaving and we pulled into the parking spot in front of the truck *phew* so far so good. Sorry can’t give any parking pointers in this review. There are a few tables outside if you want to eat there. It was pretty cold that day and a kind gentleman offered to move the table into the sun or turn on the heat lamp. Quite stumped, the heat lamp didn’t turn on but I give him an A for effort. The menu is limited since the food truck limits their space. The most mentioned item is the lobster banh mi so I asked about it. The chef said that he doesn’t use the traditional French baguette but a softer bread so it doesn’t overpower the lobster. Unfortunately, he ran out of daikon radish so I didn’t get to try it the normal way. My brother and I ordered 2 lobster banh mi and my bf ordered the ahi fish tacos. The lobster banh mi was pretty good, but the fish tacos were amazing! I asked to trade the remaining half of my lobster banh mi for bfs fish tacos. I even whispered to him, «I think this is the best fish taco I’ve ever had!» We decided to go for round 2 and ordered the calamari fries. We asked for cocktail sauce, they didn’t have any, and the woman in the food truck offered to have some made by mixing some ketchup and horseradish. Opted for round 3 with some to-go orders because we knew we would be craving it later. Got 2 lobster banh mi and 2 fish tacos. The staff(chef, lady taking orders in food truck and gentleman helping w orders — sorry I didn’t get your names) was very welcoming and provided great service. We will definitely be coming back for the food truck and restaurant when we are in the area. The prices can be high depending how you look at it. $ 4 for a taco and $ 6 for the mini banh mi — but you have to keep in mind that this is no Del taco or Lee’s Sandwich. The quality is definitely here, the chef and staff know their stuff, and the fish is locally sourced so it’s fresh. Can’t wait to come back for some more tacos and the lobster banh mi the right way, with the daikon radishes. :) also the poke looks so good… Until next time…

A disappointment. Or maybe my expectations for it were too great. Nevertheless, it just didn’t work for me. YES! Clam Chowder. Better than most that I’ve tried. Their proportion of clams was really good. Barely any potatoes, which could be a negative for some. But as I said, better than most. Calamari Fries. Really good. And addicting. Please don’t offer a larger size of this order. I may order it and eat the whole thing! NO! Poke. I ended up with spicy poke. I didn’t think I ordered spicy poke, but I figured it couldn’t be too bad. I like spicy food, however, it was so spicy and topped with too much seasoning/sauce that it completely masked the taste of the fish. That’s not what I signed up for! Lobster Banh Mi. I think I was looking forward to this the most. A fan of Banh Mi and lobster, the combination of the two I hoped would be epic. Meh. Not so much. The bread was wrong, there was definitely not enough filling, and the lobster lacked taste. Technically, on the food side of things, the score is 2 and 2. But the poke and lobster banh mi were huge deal breakers.

Delicious! I ate here for lunch and it was my first time coming here. I was kind of surprised at how small the location was, but they are in the process of building a restaurant. Parking: You can either park on second street(metered parking) or in the residential areas off of second street. Service: The two ladies that helped take the orders were very friendly. It’s always nice when the employees welcome you with a smile. Also, when the food came out the chef looked through the window and noticed we didn’t have the dipping sauce for the fries and brought some out! The attention to detail amazed me and I loved the excellent service. Food: Lobster banh mi– WOW! I was definitely surprised by how much lobster came in the roll. There’s no fillers at all. Just pure lobster meat mixed with some mayo. Topped with diced daikon and carrots. A must try, especially when it’s only $ 7.95! Albacore plate w/fries & vegetables– Delicious as well! The plates are served with your choice of two sides. The albacore was fresh and seared perfectly. The fries were amazing!!! They didn’t even look crunchy, but they had the perfect crunch on the outside yet the inside was soft and delicious. Great deal for only $ 12.95. I thoroughly enjoyed the food here at Roe and would highly recommend this restaurant to any of my family and friends. Great food, excellent service and very reasonable prices.

Slapfish better watch out! LOL I was really surprised at the size of the dishes compared to the prices after being a somewhat longtime regular at Slapfish, meaning their portions here are much larger! We ordered the roe bowl($ 9.99), calamari taco($ 3.95), lobster bahn mi($ 7.95) and fried pickles(4 for $ 1.95 I think). They actually ran out of roe :(but they offered to sub the poke instead, even though it was $ 4 more, they didn’t charge me the extra. The bowl was actually pretty big, with perfectly cooked brown rice, wakame seeweed, a full soy egg cut in quarters and tiny sprinkles of small possibly tobiko roe. Totally worth it for the amount you get. Lobster bahn mi was small, but for the $ 8 can’t really complain. You can def taste and get the chew of lobster, and this is where I have to give the edge to Roe over Slapfish. At Slapfish they are kinda stingy with the lobster meat.(Example, I was quite surprised their Lobsticle was HALF a lobster tail, a small one at that for $ 9.) The bread was more of a buttered roll you’d expect from a traditional lobster roll instead of a French baguette, but it was toasted perfectly and so yummy. Calamari taco is with strips of calamari steak, not rings/tentacles. Very tender, perfectly seasoned, and light battered.(Gonna try the calamari fries next time.) You get a choice of corn or flour tortilla, and it comes with slaw and roe sauce. Pretty filling taco, $ 4 price tag is fair. Fried pickles are an obsession of mine. These were done great. They used tempura batter it seems, and it was very crisp and didn’t end up soggy. Also served with roe sauce. These come out piping hot, so be careful! I believe these were $ 1.95 for 4 pieces which is a STEAL compared to the crap they give you at County fairs for like $ 8. I will def be back! They are in the process of making a full on restaurant next door. And this Belmont Shore neighborhood is so cute! Wish I could live here!
