O’connell’s Automotive Service

Worst automotive experience ever — about a year or so ago… I was going through auto bills and this reminded me about the situation… Got the 60,000 mile service coupon for $ 120… Took the car in, and I ended up with a $ 327 bill! No call in advance letting me know that it was going to be this much more or why — just an itemized bill… The guy just said I’d have to contact the office during the week (this was on a weekend)… I never heard back from either office, I think there was one in Seal Beach or something as well…
My car takes synthetic oil — so I understand an increase of $ 30 or $ 40 in the oil change portion — but $ 200… At least call me first! Or explain once I get there…

This shop has recently changed ownership and I think things have improved with customer service and quality of work. I have used this shop many times and lately with the new ownership, I do see improvement. I always get 3 estimates and O’connell’s is competitive and when I pick them to do the repairs, they do good work and the owner is on site and provides good customer service.

This place is under new management, and they were able to fit me in last minute for some quick car lovin. I am happy with the service done and the price. My only gripe is the lack of personal attention, and eye contact on the part of the guy working the counter, but then again, they’re guys… Car guys. customer service isn’t in their job description. As long as my car gets the attention it needs, then i am happy. (4 stars because this was my 1^st visit)

Great guys, great service, fair prices.
What a shock when we brought our Jeep to them to get a new battery tonight and we saw an «Available» sign on their building.
Don’t tell me another good company gone the bad side of this down economy?

Haven’t been here in a while, but used to bring my gf’s old car in here often (VW New Beetle, it had issues). They always did a great job of explaining their diagnosis, were pretty fair about quotes and pricing, and usually got the job done quickly. Just be sure to bring in your car early in order to get it done faster, otherwise they may not have the time to wrap it up quick. Used to get oil change coupons in the mail from them all the time, but not so much any more — keep an eye out for those (big green newsletter).

brought my truck in to o’connells for service… i come back and there is a 6 inch dent in my bumper. they tell me it must have been there when i brought in. i tell em i know every single scratch (very few) and there are NO dents in truck. the mechanic tells me basically, tough doo-​doo. i think i’m going to look for another shop. too bad, cuz i thought they did good auto work.

I found a series of coupons for O’Connell’s Automotive in the Pennysaver a few weeks ago, and figured – what the hell – my car needs a 60,000 mile tune-​up and $ 120 is not such a bad deal (when compared to the dealership prices, at least). I called ahead and spoke to a nice, helpful guy there and made an appointment. It took a few hours so I walked down the street and read at Caliente Coffee and then had lunch at Super Mex. When I returned to O’Connell’s I had to wait another twenty minutes or so because I opted to have a fuel injection service performed, and during that time I spied on the interactions between the manager and mechanic, and the manager and other customers. All seem to be on the up and up. I’m also happy to report that the manager treats ladies respectfully and without condescension. I asked many, many questions about my car and had him describe each service they were performing along with their specific purpose. He’s kind of a hyper and talkative guy, so he didn’t seem bothered at all by my questions. I think he rather appreciated my pro-​active questioning, actually, but he wasn’t creepy about it in the slightest. Most importantly, my car is running beautifully. The fuel injection service nixed my car’s «hesitation» trouble (i.e. it was «hesitating» upon applying the gas after being at a complete stop), and everything else seems good. I much prefer this place to Goodyear on Bellflower (where they forgot to put the oil cap back on after an oil change, and alas, fumes began wafting through the vents and into my lungs for a few days – argh) or the oil change place next to the car wash on Anaheim & Redondo (cheap and fast, but not so thorough). I’ll definitely bring my car back to O’Connell’s for oil changes and such.
