Eh, pupusas are good but they take a lifetime to be made. The older employees also look very serious and will not smile. Their horchata is really really good, but they never have it so oh well. Could be better has a lot of potential.

This little neighborhood restaurant has such good authentic salvadorean food my mom loves salvi food and she says their pupusas are by far the best. I believe her because she is very picky and high end when she goes out to eat. I give them 4 starts because the employee’s attitudes are not the nicest but not mean either they have a poker face on all the time.

This place use to be good. There service sucks, and the pupusas are a bit dry and mostly masa. They never have horchata no matter what time you go in. And even if you place a phone order its never ready at the time they tell you. Wouldn’t recommend this place at all!!!

This little whole in the wall has the best pupusas you could ever have! They melt in your mouth with deliciousness! Their whole menu is outrageous! The chicken is organic and extremely fresh, you’ll never try anything like it! For pupusas I prefer the reueltas, that’s cheese beans and chicharon. The tamales are also the best salvadorian tamales you could find I personally prefer them over mexican style tamales. The pan con giena is sooo yummy its a traditional Salvadoran chicken sandwich that is sure to put a smile on ur face. All of their caldos are worth the try it doesn’t matter if its hot outside it will drive u crazy how great it is. Especially that it comes with home made tortillas! The catracha is good as well but to me is very similar to a quesadilla. And the carne Asada plate is a must!!! I have never had carne Asada that taste soooo good! It will change your whole life. I am warning you try anything from here and you will be hooked! Please don’t get upset of the long wait trust me as soon as your food gets there you will understand why everything is fresh to order! Oh and don’t forget to get some yummy bread Togo. P. s. Their coffee is perfect.

I would have given this place 4 stars, however due to their limited menu and not scoring an A rating, that I have it 3 stars. The pros are taste, simplicity and freshness of food. This joint specializes in pupusas, El Salvadoranian tamales and typical South American food. There is quite a wait for made from scratch pupusas, but it is worth the wait. I like the pupusas de calabash flower and de Chicharon. Top it with their pickled cabbage condiment and you are in pupusa heaven.

It’s all about that chicharron con queso pupusa. It’s made to order(that’s why they take a while), and you can’t go wrong with it; a savory pork and cheesy goodness. I think they use Cacique brand white cheese. Don’t forget the Sangria grape soda. See, this is what you do. You get one of those pupusas, take it home, and use it as the crust for a personal size pepperoni pizza that you make yourself. Pop it in the oven. taste buds = blown Peace

Local neighborhood restaurant. Friendly employees. Stopped here for a few times for a quick take out. Their papusas and baleadas are fantastic. Huge fan of the pastries, as well.

I wanted a pupusa fix and i got it. La Sonsonateca is in an old worn building on Long Beach Blvd and 53rd. i called in my order, and there was a bit of a language barrier but we both worked that out. I ordered 2 pupusas and noticed they have plenty of other items that I may one day dare to try. the upusas were $ 2 each and was good. With the pupusa came some ratchet lettuce and a big bag of sauce/dressing. I thought they were rather generous but I wasn’t feeling the salad, nevertheless, La Sonsonateca will definitely hit the spot when it comes to pupusa.

Second time i tried some pupusa(first was at the farmers market) I got their bean and cheese one, squash one and just plain cheese one. Im not really sure how youre supposed to eat it, but along with the pupsas, they give you this red liquid and some cloesaw mix. I just soaked the pupsa in the liquid and ate it with the mix I thought it tasted pretty decent. The price was okay for the size($ 2– $ 2.50) It wasnt something i was drooling over, but definitely something that was different and therefore i enjoyed Would have given them a 4 star, but i had to wait 35 minutes. which is a very very long time! ** i got their pastry desserts, I recommend not getting them because mine was very stale and i definitely could tell that it had been sitting in the fridge for more than 2 days.(i only took a bite) but yea. i dont think they should sell the pastries is they were that old

This place has really good pupusas. They are a good size. I get full with eating one. My favorite one is the revuelta(Cheese, pork and beans). They are greasy, but delicious.

I have an ambivalent relationship with this restaurant. La Sonsonateca’s service tends to be pretty shady. The ladies that work there seldomly smile, and always seem annoyed when taking your order. Orders take a long time(which i don’t mind, because they make them fresh to order) so its best to call ahead. If you prefer take-out, its best to double check your order, because they have been known to get it wrong. So why do I continue eating here? La Sonsonateca has some of thee best authentic pupusas hands down. True… the curtido could be zestier and the salsa would be tangier, but these pupusas have no comparison. They aren’t stingy with the ingredients and are always stuffed to their maximum capability. I say, give them a chance! You won’t be sorry.

This place is a gem. Good good central american food. Reminds me of my travels down there. Can’t beat the food here. It does take a bit to make, so I like to call in my order. Service is good, but be ready to practice your espanol, which I enjoy doing anyways. Check this place out!!!

My mom started coming to this place. It is always difficult to find a good Salvi restaurant on this side of town. Most of the good ones are located in LA or HP. First, I was really surprised at how big their pupusas are and just how much they stuff them! This is always a plus! When eating a pupusa you don’t just want to eat pure masa. The chicarron and revueltas were very flavorful. The cheese and loroco were so cheesy, stringy and delicious! The curtido could use some help like the previous Unilocaler said. I haven’t tried other dishes here I think if you are looking for good size portions for a reasonable price, this is definately the place! The only draw back is that it is not located on the best side of town.

Are these great pupusas? meh, get the stuff with the meats. the nopales left me wanting… protein. Are these great empanadas de leche? meh Is this place affordable? Only if you think $ 3 for pupusa is affordable. Is the curtido zesty? I’d rather have kimchi. Are you whoring FTRs again? uhmm… well… Did I mention the 5 stop Al Pastor Tacos comparo on my blog? No? It’s MUCH more interesting than this pupuseria review. So wtf are you adding a new resto? a Peruvian Panaderia co-owned by a Thai couple and Peruvian chefs. How awesome is this? Only in LA. This is why I love LA.
