Living in Long Beach most of my life, I have never tried Hof’s Hut until recently. My parents and I had brunch with two family friends and this was a good place for a family friendly environment. Service is excellent and the food was good. My parents loved the omelette that they had but I did not enjoy my eggs Benedict as much as other places. One thing I liked was that they don’t charge for split orders and they were more than happy to split the food for you so you don’t have to deal with the hassle/mess. The place is very spacious but the parking lot is a bit small for that size of a restaurant. They also offer a lot of cakes and pies to take home so check that out if you have a sweet tooth.

Chicken Pot Pie!!! If they have some. This is by far one of the best places to get a Chicken Pot Pie. They only make a few every hour or so. If they don’t have that you can always get the Pot Roast Parmesan Sandwich. Oh man that sounds so delicious right now!!! The pies are awesome too. Every so often they have a BBQ special and I love the BBQ Chicken and Baby Back Ribs, however the Chicken Pot Pie and Parmesan sandwich are the best. Great place to bring anyone from a toddler to grandma. They have senior deals as well. This location has a bar tucked away in the back and the bartenders are very nice and the people that frequent are an older crowd but extremely friendly. I really miss this place~

I would like to note that on this busy New Year day it took 7 minutes for a hostess to come to the podium to take our request for seating. But on a day like this, you practice a your virtues. Service: our waitress was humble and sweet Food: From the kids menu of eggs and sausage, to my Hof Omelette and my honey’s big H burger — everything was beyond satisfying! Everything tasted fresh off the grill, just what you’d expect from a diner. Even our sourdough toast was scrumptious– I think that says a lot right there. This isn’t my first time here– just the first to be documented on Unilocal. It’s definitely a neighborhood diner that has history and long long time customers. I often forget about this place because of its easy to miss location — but I hope to come more often in this New Year.

Great e experience last night Dec 1 wonderful manager. The fish and chips were great. When asked by the mgr if everything was OK, I did mention a small issue which I know was a Commination problem. The mgr was awesome sorry I can’t remember her name but thank you again

I’ve been eating at Hof’s Hut for more than 30 years so this review is long overdue. I’m mostly doing this because so few good things maintain consistency over the years but fortunately Hof’s Hut continues to serve the same great food it has for decades. This particular Hof’s has a combination of seating with the«old school» dark lounge with a bar in the middle and big booths, or more modern seating in a brightly lit café style. I grew up going to Hof’s in a setting that was a dark lounge with the bar so that is where I chose to sit. Maybe it was just nostalgic for me but I like it «old school» in the dark lounge, bar in the middle and big booths. They only upgrades I would say they have are the flat screens on the wall with either news or sports playing which is a welcome upgrade. It has been so long since I’ve eaten at a Hof’s so I decided to try one of my old favorites from when I would frequent to see if it was still as good as I remembered. I ordered the patty melt with onion rings and a side salad with blue cheese dressing. The salad is just regular greens and tomatoes and comes with a good blue cheese dressing. The patty melt comes on rye bread grilled to perfection with a perfectly cooked beef patty smothered with cheese and the perfect amount of onions. It’s cut in half to make for ease of eating. On the side, I ordered the onion rings because they taste like they dip the onions in their own batter. I don’t know if they actually do, but the onion rings are quite a treat. I will say that I have tried patty melts all across this country and have yet to find a patty melt that compares to the one at Hof’s Hut. And if you have never had a patty melt, you need to come to this place. But also what is so amazing is how it hasn’t changed at all in decades! I’ve had breakfast at Hof’s and other meals and they are all equally as good, but I come here specifically for the atmosphere and the patty melt. Sadly, some of the Hof’s locations have closed and this particular Hof’s is not the one I would regularly frequent when I lived in Long Beach, but fortunately for me the food was as good as I remembered it from the one I used to visit before they closed their doors. If you haven’t been to Hof’s, I highly recommend and if you have but haven’t tried the patty melt, you really need to!

We’ve lived around the corner for the last 10 years and probably have only been in 5 times or less. It is less than mediocre food and pricey too. I’d much rather go wait 45 minutes for a table at Bake n Broil than eat here. There’s a reason tables are always open and there’s no wait to get seated. I’m sorry, I really hate to give bad reviews but the food just isn’t great. I’ve had something different every time we’ve come and never had anything I liked. Not only that but it’s never hot, I like my food hot, not warm. Maybe it’s because they have the a/c blowing full blast all the time even when it’s freezing outside too. The only thing I do like about this place is all the tropical fabrics they have in their waiting area.

Service by Kimmi was great. Very friendly and attentive to our needs. She’s been serving Bob here for many years. I had a French beef dip sandwich which was very good. Great place for business meetings.

Good pies. Amazing pies ! The food is good too, but the pies are one of my favorites. Their breads are also great. Better to come in then take out and great for breakfast! The lady in the front is so nice and helpful!

Hof’s is a Long Beach institution, serving great food since before you were born. Any time of day you can find a good meal served by pleasant people. For Breakfast try the Hof’s skillet, for lunch they have awesome burgers and giant onion rings, or the rotisserie chicken walnut salad is amazing. For dinner there are too many choices to pick one, but get the cornbread on the side — it’s off the hook. Hof’s Hut used to have about 15 locations around So Cal, but all have been converted to Lucille’s BBQ joints except for a couple of neighborhood mainstays in Long Beach, Torrance and Los Al. It’s also large enough that you can get a table without a 30 minute wait, which is a real plus in Bixby Knolls. Overall you can’t go wrong with Hof’s.

2.5 stars Oh Hof’s Hut, how I really want to like you ALLOFTHETIME, but when I come, it’s seems to fall short to my expectations. It’s a hit and miss. Sometimes my food comes out right and then other times it doesn’t. The latest meal, I ordered an omelet and it was runny. Omelets shouldn’t be runny. So I told my waiter that I wasn’t too thrilled of my omelet being runny. He graciously took it back and had another one made for me. Another miss– I ordered a blueberry muffin as my choice of bread. When the waiter brought it to me, I had to give it a side eye, because I didn’t see not even a speck of blueberries. Ok, maybe I just needed to take a bite first. Well I took a bit and not only did I see much of any blueberries, the muffin tasted like their cornbread. So I told the waiter and asked if I could have a banana nut muffin instead. Whew, ok finally a «hit» moment. Much better. This actually smelled and tasted like a banana nut muffin. Ok nothing against the waiter because he was nice, but nice doesn’t win over filthy nails. Eww, you serving me my food with your fingernails dirty? Maybe he is a mechanic on the side, but I shouldn’t see black dirt/stains/oil or whatever it was under your nails. I sure was watching him every time he handled my plate. Making sure his fingers didn’t touch my food. Now their baked items are a «hit»(except for that wanna-be ‘blueberry’ muffin) No complaints there. There is definitely room for improvement at this Hof’s Hut location– starting with renovations and cleanliness of staff.

Hof’s Hut’s interior is more than meets the eye. By its name, I was assuming a simplistic European café slash bakery… but really, the main dining room is more reminiscent of an All-American greasy spoon serving up hearty platters, with a lounge tucked to the side that gives off a more intimate, sophisticated, yet unpretentious Rat Pack-like ambiance. Hits: * Fantastic and quick diner service — perfect for a quick lunch… our food came out within 5 minutes! * Breakfast served all day! * The menu was huge — everything was fairly priced and looked inviting, with some really interestingly unique menu items that I’ll have to try on the next go * I ordered the Fried Chicken & Waffle Melt($ 9.69) — best… idea… evarrrr! The chicken was tender and lightly battered, and the warm(!!!) maple syrup complemented well with the mildly sweet waffle bun * The fries here are derish! * You can take home a pie drenched in fresh fruit for under $ 10! Lessons Learned: * Pay your tab at the front cash register, where the baked goods behind the glass displays all looked so tempting Glad this place is so close to work, because I foresee it becoming a lunch spot I’ll be frequenting often.

My wife and I love Hof’s Hut because of the lounge(the much closer Bellflower Blvd branch doesn’t have one). Basically, it’s a bar, an old-fashioned bar you’d expect to see on the Queen Mary, often full of confused old people who mistakenly brought their daubers The beauty of the lounge is that you get all the Hof’s Hut food without all the kids, windows, bright lights, and kids. ps. The mashed potato omelette(with bacon, green onions, cheddar, and sour cream) used to be on the menu but was discontinued in the late 90s(I was a regular at the marina branch since 1992 until it closed in 2012), but most servers can be talked into asking the chefs, and most chefs will still make it. Order it and keep it alive… even though it won’t be keeping ME alive.

I really like Hoffs Hut I definitely prefer other locations. I will not come to this location again even if it is the closest to my house. I actually came here for a meal. But, I was so taken back by how dirty the restaurant was I got a slice of my chocolate cake with the strawberry and whip filling and left. There was stuck on food on the seats and chairs and I was becoming nauseous as I was sitting there waiting for a menu to get an actual dinner. I quickly ordered some cake to go and ran up out of this nasty location lol

Love the vibe of this place. The private lounge that is away from the family dining area is such a great idea. You’re able to see the cooks prepare your food. Seating is comfortable. Great tasty food options and outside dining area is just great. Think I prefer Hof’s over ihops and dennys

Ok — I went back because it’s convenient and my colleague said my review would make her not want to go there! Ordered almost the exact same breakfast. This time the hash browns were cooked perfectly and according to my likes. The scrambled eggs were very good, perfect toasting on the rye — plenty of jelly and the place appeared brighter. My rating stands at three because I think a three is good — it takes a lot to get higher from me. I will return and you should give this place a try

I wouldn’t go here for the food, but their pies are pretty damn good. I’m not much of a pie person, but if you’re looking for a good slice of pie, holler at the folks at Hof’s Hut! My favorites: — Strawberry pie: highlight of the restaurant. It’s filled with FRESH strawberries, glazed with syrup. — Banana crème pie: creamy and definitely filling — Pumpkin pie Pro: they have mini pies for the light eaters, and the regular sized ones for groups.
