I went to this place with high expectations mainly because I had been craving these type of tacos for a while and finding out there was a place down the street made me extremely happy! I was so excited about trying their fish«baja» tacos… I was so disappointed that they were not the ideal baja tacos. The fish was a tilapia I know because I cook with this type of fish regularly and it was not fried like I had hoped for instead it was soggy if I may, and sad. My husband had the ‘plastic cheese nachos’ its what he called them… Just all around not good

I come here regularly for the surf n’ turf burrito. 4 stars for that. I don’t care for the flavor of their wet sauce/enchilada sauce. Everything else I’ve tried is really great and they have salsa bar. I also like that they have an outside patio. Servers are very friendly.

6 of us are here today and not one of us was happy with our meal. Salsa was tasteless. Beef was dry, chili relleno was all egg no batter. Never again.

I have been sitting in the lobby fir 30 minutes now waiting for my order. In that time I could have purchased groceries and made 6 darn tacos. These had better be tacos from heaven!

$ 2.75/taco is a bit high, especially when you wait over 30 minutes for an order of 6 tacos. Happy hour brings them down to 1.85 In regards to flavor… potato taco was tasteless. It’s loaded with cheese so once you get through that you realize it tastes like your great aunt’s crappy thanksgiving mashed potatoes. The chicken tacos are also tasteless!!! The guac looks like it’s been sitting out for hours. The carne asada tastes like rubber. We couldn’t even finish the tacos. Waste of $$ and time. I won’t be back because there’s hundreds of taco shops nearby, many of which I’ve never waited that long for and that actually marinade their meat.

Potato tacos are amazing! I have a hard time finding Mexican food that is for a vegetarian. But here it’s easy!

Got the number 14 chile relleno and enchilada combo(rice and beans) yesterday. Comes with fountain drink. Huge plate. Regular wait time. Came in during lunch and the inside tables were already full. Also has a «grab your nacho chips and salsa» bar. Several salsa choices. Overall, very good Tex Mex and would come back again.

I used to really love this place and go a couple times a month. They had fresh brewed iced tea, good salsa and good food. In the 3 times I’ve been over the last six months, the tables are dirty so I have to clean my own. The tea is powder and water. Ick. The food is ok but the portions keep shrinking. Today I was charged $ 2.25 for a little Cup of guacamole. When I was there before Christmas, it was $ 3.50 for 3 – 4 times that. I heard a couple of other people complaining about the size of the burritos and how expensive they were. They still have their good salsa and they still give you a drink with the combos. But it’s not for me any more.

The food is good. Not really used to the type of cheese they use but it was good. Open salsa bar was nice and the restaurant was clean. Overall I was satisfied.

The food is great, the service is good, and it’s definitely one of the better«sit down» style fast food joints in terms of food quality and quantity. You can even throw a bunch of chips and salsa in your to-go bag. My main issue with the place is the fact that it’s not exactly the cleanest place — the parking lot is often messy and littered, the bathrooms are what you’d expect from a gas station — not a place like this, and worst of all there are flies. A LOT of flies. They never go away either, every time I’ve been here the place was filled with them absolutely everywhere which doesn’t make me excited to eat the food(nor the rest of the dirtiness). The food is great, a little pricy depending on what you order, but make sure you order it to-go — I could barely handle sitting inside just long enough to get my food and I’m far from a «clean-freak».

This place is really good, only when you order the right things. I decided to order Togo today and decided to explore the menu and go out of my comfort zone. Normally I get the carne Asada tacos and this item is probably one of the best here. I decided to try a Surf and turf today. It was one of the worst tasting burritos I have ever had. I took my first bite and there was rice and shrimp. Was hoping there would be some kind of sauce but there was nothing ! The worst part is, this burrito only had shrimp and rice ! They forgot to put in the carne Asada. Because I ordered Togo, I wasn’t gonna drive 10 mins back to change my burrito. Great place, but do not try and go out of your comfort zone ! You might be disappointed.

I love this place. I always stop here when I’m in Long Beach. My favorite items are the macho nachos because there are so many meat options you can try. I wouldn’t recommend the fish nachos though. I’ve also tried the crunchy tacos, taquitos, Cali burrito etc. All are good and they really pack in the meat. If ordering to go I suggest asking for the cold items(guac, sour cream, etc) packaged on the side. I’ve had warm sour cream and guac before which is never a good thing. Overall the place is family owned and the staff are always friendly. The chip and salsa bar is also a plus! If you’re low on money grab a taco or some taquitos and fill up on chips and salsa!

Sorry, but if I am going to pay almost ten dollars for some carne asada fries, I would expect it to look somewhat presentable. Instead it came out looking almost like dog crap. Before I took my first bite, I had already lost some interest in my meal. How did it taste, you ask? Terrible. Fries were baked in the oven for too long and the carne asada was too dry. Look at the picture and please tell me, would you eat that?

It’s good to note that Baja Sonora is family owned and operated, enough with the TexMex chains. The attitude is order it your way and like it. It has been over one year that I last stopped in, and before then, I frequented monthly, I don’t go crazy for tacos, tostadas, or burritos: And when I consider the calories, it keeps me away. It was actually the quality of the food — priorly, slopping wet; and salty, shredded chicken. Time has been good to Sonora — they cleaned up their act — especially the chip & salsa self-serving area: they now accept credit cards(the pirate ATM has been removed) and there are healthier options and vegetarian choices. The burrito I selected was«Sean’s Healthy» with a chargrilled chicken breast(albeit dry), black beans, & avocado — I added shredded lettuce without an up-charge. Muy bien¿ The«Veggie»(not Vegan though) is filled with rice, beans, lettuce, cheese, and guacamole, and is served wet. The decision which contained fewer calories was made easy. Everyone here is nice. That sealed the four stars.

This place is amazing! Came on a Tuesday around 4pm and there was a little bit of a line, but by the time our food came the line was out the door! That really says a lot about a restaurant! The 2 of us got 7 tacos, everything was so tasty. I’ve only ever had fried fish tacos but theirs is grilled and I loved and appreciated it very much. You get a lot of meat and the tacos are a really good size. Chips & salsa bar was great, and horchata is unlimited! Cant wait to come back: D

Have been coming here weekly, with friends from work, for almost four months now. Besides the great food, it’s wonderful to be able to get outside of the office and not have to think about work. We try to get here right after they open(between 11:15 — 11:30) because the lunchtime rush gets pretty hectic. The parking lot fills up and you sometimes have to look for a spot in the adjoining neighborhood. I’ve had their soft tacos, in shredded beef, chicken, and ground beef. All are good, but for my taste the ground beef is a bit over-seasoned. Between the three I go for the shredded beef. Lots of meat, wrapped in two corn tortillas, with guacamole and pico de gallo on the side. I’ll spice it up a bit more with a salsa mix from their salsa bar. Also have sampled the chimicanga in shredded beef, both dry style and wet style(red sauce) smothered in cheese. Excellent! You pay an extra buck or so for the wet style, but it’s worth it imo. My bud Mak has gotten green wet and that one looks awesome as well. Careful though, there’s so much that it’ll put you to sleep that afternoon! Another pick is a meat and bean burrito. Have had all three meats and prefer either shredded beef or chicken. Will typically have this one dry, as the wet style didn’t include the melted cheese(as I recall). Lastly, I’ve had the 6A, which is one enchilada with rice and beans. This is a good plate to get if you don’t quite want to gorge yourself with a full fledged burrito or chimichanga. Another great feature of Baja Sonora is their chips, which are fried full corn tortillas, which you break into«chips» on your own. I’ve posted several photos of all the meals described. Do yourself a favor and try this place out!

I was first introduced to this place in 1999 when I was visiting Long Beach for a square dance event. It’s been a love hate relationship ever since. I love the people, the food and now this new location, but I hate living so far away. I’m a sucker for the tacos! Both the hard and soft shells, but the carnitas hard shells are my fave. A close second are the cheese enchiladas, chile relleno and the tortilla soup. Always busy-Baja Señora might just become your go to casual Mexican eatery if you come try your favorites here. No Lenin, order at the counter with table food delivery. ENJOY!

Overview: This Baja Sonora is a small sit-down Mexican restaurant in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach on Atlantic Ave. It offers all your favorite Californian-Mexican foods such as wet and dry burritos, steak tacos, and a complimentary chips and salsa. The Food: I have been here about half a dozen times and each time I am pleased with my meal. I was extremely impressed with the size of my shrimp burrito and I love how they give you two tortilla skins with every taco. The wet burrito is a work of art and the tacos and their generous helping of avocado are always great in my book. The beef in my opinion is a bit dry and overcooked but it’s still more pleasant than the ground meats you’ll find at Del taco or Taco Bell. The Service: While this is a mostly a self-service restaurant where you order at the cashier, you will be given a number for your order and your food will be brought out to you. No complaints here. Conclusions: Baja Sonora is a great little Mexican restaurant in Bixby Knolls that serves a great variety of Mexican foods, has great flavor combinations, and is in a pleasant location. I think I love this place because I’m with such good company whenever I come here. The portions are huge, the chips are free, and the selection is amazing, but I may just be thinking that because I’m never in a bad mood when I enter Baja Sonora.
