I’ve been ordering take-out and delivery pizza from this spot since it was Nizza Pizza(then Checkmate, then Checkers… etc) and the pizza has certainly changed over the years. The pizza nowadays is reasonably priced, but not quite up to the standards of yester-year. Their italian-style pizzas quite greasy, and the pizza shows up almost soggy at times. It tastes good, but it’s tough to get past the grease. So far, this warrants a 2-star review. However, All-Star’s saving grace is their cheese breadsticks with bacon. Its slighly greasy, but tasty as hell, and the bacon on top is crispy and delicious. Better pizza can certainly be found elsewhere, but not cheese breadsticks with bacon. Pay a visit to All-Star for that, and you won’t leave unhappy.

All Star Pizza must spend a lot of «dough» on their print advertising. Every month, I get multiple big ads in the mail with menu and coupons from All Star Pizza, so there’s no lack of pizza coupons when I need them. All Star Pizza used to be a Checkmate Pizza before it was sold to new owners. The menu offerings are very similar to Checkmate Pizza and usual coupons can be found at They also offer specials including 2 slices of pizza and a 20 oz soda for $ 3.50 and add chips and soda for $ 1.99. This small pizza joint is takeout and free delivery only(all of Londonderry and parts of Derry), just a small counter area and Coke cooler near the door with framed pictures of Boston sports teams on the walls. The pizzas I’ve ordered from All Star have been decent. You get a lot of dough for a reasonable amount of dough(good prices with coupon offers). The pizzas are baked on belt ovens. My favorite specialty pizzas are the Veggie Delight, Steak Bomb, Buffalo Chicken, and Checkmate Ultra — oops I meant to say the All Star instead, which has all meats plus green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. I enjoy the tasty toppings, but I don’t care for the crust, a thin chewy soft crust, gets flimsy towards the center, and I need to fold the slice to eat though it’s not NY pizza. The service is good, pizza ready in the time promised(usually 10 – 15 minutes when not busy). Overall, 3.4STARS. I do miss having a Checkmate Pizza in Londonderry, but I can still head over to the Checkmate Pizza on Hanover Street in Manchester for the original Checkmate Ultra, buffalo chicken calzones(yum!)and some draft beer in the lounge.
