This place has terrible owners who are extremely rude to children. The only good thing I can say is the waitress was nice. My 3 year destroyed some crayons that they gave her and instead of letting it go they made very rude comments and said we destroyed their property. Crayons are usually given to kids to keep at restaurants and if they are that rude and cheap that $ 2 crayons make a difference I can’t understand that. My child is very sweet and never would hurt or destroy anything except crayons given to her at a restaurant and by the way she just took the paper off she didn’t break them. I understood their point but really come on, they’re crayons that kept her quiet in their restaurant while other people were able to enjoy their meal. I have already told my friends and family not to go back to this place.

My biggest issue with this place is that they don’t have fresh OJ!!! If you only order simple things like eggs and bacon you will be fine, however, everything else I’ve ever tried here has been sub par. DONOT order the turkey sausage… I’ve found their ingredients in general to be lacking in quality. That’s why I’d stick to eggs and bacon here… Otherwise get ready to be disappointed.

Located on a busy corner so you cannot miss it. Always full but turn tables fast enough to be seated quickly. They recently switched to a pancake house and updated their menu. So a breakfast/lunch place with down to earth owners and servers with die hard regulars. The owners always remember you and will make almost any variety of omelette or breakfast. Portions big, my kids split biscuits/gravy w side of ham. Their Popeyes omelette special is always a treat to me. Pancakes– fill you up! With breakfast you can choose pancakes or toast. Their fries on the side of your lunch are perfect! Same w their hash browns. I have frequented this place since the current owners took over several years ago and I’ve never been disappointed.

My husband and I had the most unpleasant experience at this place. I had ordered an egg white omelet with onions and spinach. Since their toast leaves a lot to be desired, I ordered a roll to go with my breakfast. My husband ordered two eggs basted, ham and toast. After two or three bites of my omelet, I realized something tasted awful. Turned out they had put in about a pound of feta cheese. OMG, it was awful. Now, my husband is having his eggs and sees that they are almost raw surrounding the yolk. Sends it back and it arrives in the same condition. Now I called the waitress over… BTW, hard to get their attention because they like to gather together and gab by the kitchen. When she finally came over, I told her the problem. At this point in time, my husband is almost done eating… yep, he persevered even tho the eggs were not to his liking. I said I didn’t want anything… that I would just finish my roll. A few minutes later, the check arrived. They had the NERVE to put that omelet on the bill… saying that they had offered to make a new one(yeh, I like to eat at the same time my husband does, a funny habit we have). Waitress said if I had a problem, I could talk to the«woman»…said I sure did have a problem. Now, here comes the most miserable, unfriendly and abrasive character saying I had eaten HALF of the omelet and they offered to make a new one. I would not have eaten half because I found it disgusting and informed her that it was a great inconvenience to me to wait for another and didn’t want to do that. It didn’t matter what we said, she stood her ground but at the last moment, took the omelet off the bill and for what my husband had, we were overcharged. We won’t even drive near there… the memory is so very unpleasant. Ruins your morning. DINERBEWARE. THISPLACEISNOTTHERETOPLEASEYOU.

A pretty solid, if unspectacular, place. It’s a solid greasy spoon. It’s a place that probably hasn’t changed much in 30 years, but the food is good & the service is decent. If you’re looking for a place to have your non-fat roomy latte with your gluten-free cruelty-free egg whites and artisanal kale, well, you’re in the wrong place. But if you want something like your ma or gram makes, then this is the place.

Food wasn’t bad but not great. Expensive for what you get. Also only open for breakfast and lunch which is a downside.

This place is exactly what you’d expect. Just an average diner that specializes in breakfast. Everything here is extremely average. Want a skillet? It’s alright. How about an omelet? eh. I guess what makes this a solid 3 stars is that it’s consistently average and since there’s so few actually great breakfast places in the burbs people will be back.

oday I had the unfortunate experience of having lunch at the main street café and it was one of the worst meals of my life. It all started when my wife suggested we go out to lunch. We knew there had been a change at the MSC. The hours had changed and they added pancake house to the window. We were under the impression that the management had changed as well. So we figured we would give it another chance, now that it was under new management. We had written off the old place several months after the owners took over due to bad meals. We usually give a local place multiple tries, and after having done so we were disappointed. Not disappointed enough to bother writing a negative review, but enough to stop trying. So we were excited that they were under new,(and we hoped better) management. We sat down encouraged by the new menu and ordered our food. I ordered the pork chop dinner and my wife ordered the pancakes w/a side of bacon. Shortly after we ordered I saw the person who ran the old place come from the kitchen area. You see while they had changed the name and the menu apparently the owners were the same. My wife asked me if I wanted to leave and I told her we might as well give it a try since we had already ordered. We didn’t want to do that to the waitress and frankly would have been a little embarrassed to leave after having ordered. The pork chops came out. gray, thin and overcooked, swimming in some sort of Jus next to a pile of peas and carrots that looked like world war two left over’s.I will include a picture if I can. The plate was just gross looking and had it come out of one of my kitchens(ex chef here) I would have fired the cook. However the Greek potatoes looked appetizing and I figured with some Dijon mustard I could choke em down. One bite told me otherwise, they were bland and severely overcooked. I gave up and called the waitress over. I explained that these were gross looking and tasting and asked if I could just get a hamburger medium instead. While we talked waiting for my hamburger my wife ate what she described as mediocre pancakes, she commented that the bacon was cold. How does one serve cold bacon? Next the manager lady comes up to me and asked me what was wrong with the pork chops? My response was something on the order of «you can look at that plate and still ask me what was wrong?» She said«yes» so I told her and she left. No apology, or consideration for my feelings and the bad meal they served. I think that was scarier than the pork chops themselves. Finally my hamburger came out of the kitchen when my wife had almost finished. It was Medium rare not medium(no biggie) and it was a cheeseburger not the hamburger I ordered.(Again no biggie) I scraped off the cheese and prepped it with ketchup as well as the pathetic slice of tomato sitting on a small piece iceberg lettuce they used as a garnish and took my first bite. The meat tasted off, like a faint trace of spoiled or just kind of turning. I smelled it, and it smelled ok so I took a second bite. The spoiled flavor was more pronounced and I spat it out on my plate. I pushed the plate away and nibbled at the salad from my first meal that I had not finished. No one asked me what was wrong with the burger and I paid our check and left. I highly recommend you going ANYWHEREELSE but here.

This was our first time at Main St Café and we’ll definitely be back. The service was great, very attentive, and food delicious. The food came out fast which is extremely important when eating with a 3 year old boy who doesn’t have much patience. Thanks for a great breakfast experience.

This is your typical neighborhood diner. The food is predictably good, as well as the service and constantly flowing coffee. A great stop for breakfast. Getting into and out of the parking lot can be an issue. Leave plenty of time for that.

First impressions can make or break a place. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth: literally. Let me walk you through one of the worse experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. When we entered, it took the host 10 minutes to seat us. This was on a Sunday, and it was not busy but the dude completely ignored us when we walked in. 3 people just paid for their food as we stood there waiting to be seated. Finally when the front was clear of people, the dude stood there for a minute, then looked at us and then said, «Have you been helped?» REALLY? REALLY??? You saw us come in and had people pay for their food and witnessed them ask us, «are you in line to pay,» and you ask such an asinine question!!! Woooow… Waitress was nice but the food… gross. I had the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits had a stale taste. They were chewy as if they’ve been in the freezer for years. Gravy had no flavor. Ughhh, I’m just annoyed. Oh and the chocolate chip pancakes… rubber. no fluffy texture. Can’t even cut them with a fork. Just utter disappointment. The inventor of pancakes would sue. Terrible. Obviously I will not be back here. Just laying out the honest truth.

Clean, friendly staff, and good food selection. I had the catfish special wish was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The mashed potatoes were cold which was the only complaint. Saw others ordering the breakfast items and they looked very good. Would return for sure.

I just love this place. The waitresses are always on top of the coffee and get your order in and food out ASAP. It is just what you need from the local breakfast spot. Nothing is amazing and mouthwatering that I have ordered, but I know I can always order eggs, pancakes, french toast, or a skillet and leave super full and happy. I ALWAYS have way too much coffee because they are so on top of keeping your coffee cup full and hot. There are a lot of booths for your people to hang out and chat as well as a little bar to sit and read the paper by yourself. Local dinners always have such charm.

I am not from Lombard and this was my first time visit to the Main Street Café. Leading up to my destination I noticed a majority of small businesses close by. I also got the vibe I just drove into Hill Valley from Back to the Future. Big time kudos for the private parking lot in back for hungry customers. Upon walking in the diner has traditional old fashion carpeting with a small counter top seating plus booths and four top tables. There was no wait and I was seated immediately. I ordered the Spinach & Feta Cheese omelette with hashbrowns and a side of pancakes. PROS: –Omelette was plenty filling with the perfect amount of feta. –Spinach was also working lovely and not overwhelming. –Omelette size was generous and fluffy –Coffee refills were awesome quick –Friendly staff and outgoing :) CONS: –The Omelette was plated flat. Could have been more tightly tossed and oval. –There was no hot sauce on the table. I am not one to ask if I don’t see it. –Water cups were filled with water spots around the rim. I know their clean. I noticed they have a board with daily dinner specials. I like seeing that, it shows the business cares and willing to treat their customer base to something new. Overall the experience was a positive one and I would definitely stop in again.

I appreciate this place. They don’t try to be hip or fancy but they are a comfortable restaurant with good food. I had breakfast here the other day and it was a great place to have a conversation with my friend in one of their comfy booths. I had the 4×2 special and it was very good. I ate every bite! My friend said she grew up having their Belgian waffles and she got the apple cinnamon one which looked delicious with a generous amount of caramel-y looking apples. Our server Karen was positive and gave us great service. I have no complaints– very good!

Great neighborhood spot, wonderful little diner. Waitstaff is always friendly and the food is great. Last time we were there I had the california omelet(avocado, ham, tomato, and swiss cheese) — so yummy! My husband had the 4×2(bacon, sausage links, scrambled eggs, and french toast) — everything was cooked perfectly.

Main Street Café is a small restaurant located off of St. Charles Road and Main Street in Downtown Lombard. Being close-by, and apparently serving genuine skillets and egg dishes for breakfast I decided to give this place a try. Any time I go to a place in an old downtown I always worry about parking, and fortunately for Main Street Café, they provide ample parking spaces for patrons. Once I walked in I was seated very shortly thereafter, presented with a menu and placed my order. Not too long after that my skillet was brought out to me hot and ready to go. The first thing I noticed was the percentage of potato to egg, cheese, ham, and other skillet ingredients was off by more than I’ve come across yet in trying skillets at breakfast places. This seemed like it was 90% potato, 10% eggs, meat, cheese, veggies. This wouldn’t be horrible if the potatoes were well seasoned, and flavorful. But they weren’t, these were soft mushy messes of potatoes. While the egg, meat, cheese and vegetables that were in the skillet were good, they just weren’t plentiful and they weren’t seasoned or spiced in any additional way that makes a skillet really stand out. It was just the simple flavors of those ingredients themselves. I also received pancakes with my meal, and they were adequate though not great. They certainly weren’t enough to salvage such an unbalanced and bland entrée. My service was fine, the décor was pleasant, my seat was comfortable. So you might be asking yourself«why is he being so harsh», because frankly the food was lousy. Overall, I wouldn’t say my food was bad exactly(it didn’t have a negative or bad taste), just way too bland and way too heavy on the flavorless soggy and mushy potatoes. I don’t think I’ll be stopping by Main Street Café again.
