Tubby’s Grilled Submarines

I love Tubbys but I can’t stand the service here. It’s slow, no one seems to know what is going on and the overall appeal of the dining area seems dirty to me. Tubbys makes a great sandwich but after that service here needs an overhaul.

This place fucking blows. I came here the other day after realizing El Coyote Loko was closed that day. I had been wanting to try it out and figured now was a good a time as any.
Boy was I wrong, I pulled up and the place looked like it was deserted. There were no customers and just two guys working. I went against my gut and went inside. I’m not sure why but the guy that took my order kept trying to joke around. The sad part is he wasn’t funny, just annoying. I guess the customer service part of training didn’t stick for him. By the way I’m not a grumpy old man, although I feel like it, he just had some really lame «jokes». Like that annoying kid in sixth grade that thinks he’s funny but everyone just laughs to be nice.
So I place my order and the other guy starts grabbing the tools necessary to make my sandwich. I take a seat to wait for my sandwich and notice the cashier that helped me is standing next to the guy cooking my sandwich. What the fuck? I get they’re the only two working but this guy was standing shoulder to shoulder to this guy. I mean right next to each other and the cashier talked the entire time.
I tried to see what was going on but they were so close together it creeped me out.
Alright so I get my food and head home. After that experience I wasn’t expecting much and I was right. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and it was weak. The fries were unsalted and thin enough to make you regret eating them. The sandwich was lacking flavor and size. I paid for a medium and felt like I got a small. Barely any toppings and barely any meat. What a fucking rip off. This place is like a poor man’s Penn Station and that’s me being generous. Get lost Tubbys.

Excellent food, these people really know what they’re doing! I live out of town, but whenever I am back in Michigan I always make sure I come back to this particular location. The people who make the subs (especially if you get the owner) really know what they’re doing (e.g., don’t overcook the steak, put the bun on the grill to get them warm and toasty, etc.) and it really makes a difference.
My favorites:
The steak and cheese with everything on it, just the way it comes. Oh my word. The juicy steak cooked with onions, everything perfectly seasoned with that Tubby’s dressing, it’s just perfect.
The chicken and broccoli, minus ranch. I love the cheddar cheese you get on the hot chicken, especially when that cheese starts melting into the meat? With crisp cold lettuce and a few tomatoes? Perfection.
Did I mention they make each and every order of fries/​onion rings/​etc. to order? I love their curly fries.
Great service too, and really reasonable prices!

Have eaten here many times while visiting family in the area, and I have to say it’s always been a positive experience. The subs are FANTASTIC; I can’t imagine why anyone would go to subway when they could get these subs for about the same price. The service has always been quick and courteous as well.
I wish these existed closer to where I live!

This is first on my list for a reason. It is a hometown submarine shop and still in my opinion the best chain submarine. They now serve another Detroit favorite Better Made chips.
Tubby’s Famous. I didn’t add or subtract anything from the standard menu item. They put the Tubby’s Famous sauce dressing (like Italian dressing), delicious.
I ordered the combination, fries (or chips), and a medium drink. The fries are hot and pretty good.
I ordered some of the mac-​n-​cheese bites too.
Outstanding!
The service was fast and friendly unlike the other reviewers.
This location is in the middle of a strip mall. Pay attention as you may fly by too fast on Mound Road.
Another great meal at another Tubby’s location and close to the office!

So the food here is OKAY. Buy, rude staff and really dirty store.

Let me tell you about my Horrible experience at this Tubbys. I decided to go to Tubby’s on my lunch break. I worked in the area, just a few blocks away. I ordered a sub combo. I am a picky eater and I requested No sauce or onions on my sub. Well, apparently the lady who took my order was deaf because my sub had everything I didn’t want. When I told her I said no sauce or onions, she looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language then walked away to get the manager. I explained the situation, and he did not believe me and refused to make another sandwich. I asked for my money back, and of course he refused. You would not believe what he did next. He threw a bag with fries in it at me and there were fries all over the counter and floor. He yelled, told me to get out, and called the police. I refused to leave. I stood in line demanding my money back. I have never ever experienced anything like this at any restaurant! The customer is always right. Any other restaurant would have just made another sandwich. I guess he didn’t want to waste a sandwich. The police arrived and they ordered him to re-​do my order. I will never eat there again. I informed the entire staff at my place of employment. Very poor customer service! Unprofessional and Rude management! Do not EAT there!
