Bye Bye Myron & Phil. Guess you couldn’t recover from the fire. It is a sad passing. I was here on several occasions over the years, usually for some special event, like a birthday or anniversary. I always loved the relish tray, complete with chopped liver. It kind of set the tone for a promising evening. Overall, I enjoyed my meals. If memory serves me, I opted for the meaty kind of things, like steak and prime rib, etc. It was the kind of place that you just expected to eat a carnivorous diet. Myron & Phil was old school in the best sense of the word, and even though I did not go there a lot, I will miss it. It was the«special» eating establishment of my younger years. Gone, but not forgotten.

The recent fire at Myron& Phil’s has been a super upset for us — We LOVE the place! Some people might say it got a bit dated — but we loved the ambience! Recently I think the owner had started cooking and the care and quality was more than apparent! Excellent!!! We can’t say enough about the consistent service and food quality! Super great reliable place — great Steaks and great Seafood! We are really looking forward to the reopening! Wonderful Near North Suburban restaurant that gives you the experience of having gone all the way downtown!!! Love it!!! Look forward to eating at the New Myron & Phil soon!!!

Unilocaling can be a good thing! It has gotten me invitations to some wonderful events and it can get me free food even when the coupon doesn’t call for it! I happened to piqué the interest of the owner here today because my phone Unilocaled an «older» coupon for a free craft beer with any appetizer at the bar only(I wasn’t at the bar). The owner wondered how he had a different coupon from the coupon that popped up for me! I didn’t know, but got to try some of his tasty free Texan style chili and it was better than his shrimp cerviche appetizer that I ordered. Now it was about 20 years ago when my in-laws who favored this place that I last came, but we haven’t tried it in so long because we had since moved. I will definitely make an effort to get back here soon and with the in-laws! It was a fantastic meal! I almost gave it 5 stars except for the shrimp cerviche which tasted like a salsa with added shrimp. Then again, this isn’t a Mexican restaurant so I had no business ordering a Mexican appetizer. Lesson learned. The waitress gave great service and made a super recommendation with a huge list of specials for the day. I was caught between hickory smoked BBQ ribs(that fall off the bone) versus the classic Myron style of ribs(which takes more effort to chew off the bone) and I am super glad I picked the classic style… the sauce was tangy with a little added spice and kick to it and they served very freshly made ribs. I also tasted my husband’s skirt steak which is a popular dish at this restaurant and it was really juicy and tender like it should and seasoned perfectly. I prefer onions sauteed and they served theirs deep fried so only a minor minus. I just had no room left for Mark’s(Myron’s son) homemade special desserts so I know next time to make some room for it.

This restaurant has been around for a long time and although I haven’t been there in about a year, I recently went back to find that they have changed their entire menu. It is much more current, offers a great variety and very reasonably priced.(chopped liver is still brought to every table). Service is always spectacular and the food is always great. If you haven’t tried it, do so. If you haven’t been there in a while, it’s time to try it again. You’ll be glad you did. I was.

Eh, not the best meal I’ve ever had for $ 100. Just ok. My husband and I tried out this 41 year old restaurant and weren’t that impressed. Our meal was pricy but didn’t come with much. They over cooked the steak and served my pork chop raw. The best thing going for this place was the valley guy. He was very friendly and nice. I was a little disappointed in what was described to us as a «neighborhood gem.» Sadly, we won’t be going back there.

My wife and I made our first visit to Myron and Phil’s on Christmas eve 2011. Being that it was the first year I didn’t travel to WI for the Holidays and that is was our first Christmas as a married couple I wanted to try a new place. Upon arrival we found that it was mandatory valet. The valet were some true gents. They hustled out the restaurant and ran immediately to grab the door for my wife(when they bring your car for you upon leaving, they jumped out of the drivers seat and escorted my wife to her door). This isn’t your typical downtown hurry up and shove you out of your car so they can take your car for a joy ride type of valet. When we entered the place we met the hostess who was very friendly, we had reservations but were early so we decided to grab a drink at the bar. This is where we met Zach(maybe it’s spelled Zack?!). He is a friendly bartender who has a mind like a steal trap, if you order a drink and come back a few weeks later he will ask if you want the same thing! He is always looking to make you feel at home when at his bar. We had a really nice dinner and the steak was cooked exactly as I had ordered and my wife’s chicken parm was very delicious. The portions you receive are very substantial. I wan’t taken aback by the prices because I did my homework before I went. If you don’t want to spend $ 35 on a nice steak dinner then go to Chili’s or Outback. You can also use the internet to look over their menu and make a decision before you go. The Shrimp de Jonghe is simply amazing and a must have while you are there. While we were finishing up our dinner, the owner, Mark made his way over to our table to check in on us. I felt like I was talking to one of my family members, that’s how he makes you feel. The waitstaff is equally friendly and always attentive to your tables needs. We have been back on numerous occasions and will continue to make this one of our go to date night places. It’s not often you find a place that has a host/owner in Mark and a bartender in Zach who make you feel so at home. And it’s not because they are thirsty for business as they are often at capacity when we visit. They just take a very personable approach to the way they conduct their business. Hey Mark & Zach, we’ll take the usual when we see you again soon!

dun waste ur time here! got there, was told we have to use their Valet! everytime I valet, either got an extra dents or get robbed so i found myself a space in the parking lot. the valet was following me and after i parked he asked for my key. i refused and he said today is busy so we have to valet! i told him where i park wont be blocking no car coming in/out! anyway so i ended up parking across the street! anyway, we had a big group like 12ppl. our waitress also waited the table next to us, she was holding a glass and accidently dropped a few ice from the glass on one of our friend. she smiled and claim ‘luckily there wasnt anything inside the glass’. i was like WTF? there’s clearly STILL ice and fruit in that glass! a few time we try to look for our waitress, she was NOWHERE to be found! i ordered a steak, medium rare but got a medium well! my fd ordered med well, guess what she got a medium rare! other ppl on the table claim food was ok… WORST of the WORST! suburban location but down town Chicago price! there are lobster tail for market price, well they are NOT down town chicago but charge your DOWNTOWNCHICAGOMARKETPRICE! $ 89.95 for a lobster tail??? i dined at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab before, market price for a 2lbs WHOLE lobster was $ 99.95! YES Myron charge you $ 89.95 for a freaking tail! and not even a 1lb!!!

I’ll start out by saying that our waitress was very pleasant and the one part of our dining experience that worked. Outside of that, there was nothing that I found interesting about dining here. To say they were overpriced is an understatement. $ 17 for a 4 piece shrimp cocktail? An the ambiance isn’t old school, it’s just 70’s outdated. I ordered the filet which according to the menu should have been 10oz, but it was more like a 6oz cut. There was nothing special about the steak and the backed potato was just as sad. My Mom ordered the whitefish and said that it had no flavor. My Mom thinks ketchup is spicy, so I can’t even imagine how bland the fish must have been. No need to name drop other steakhouse you’ve eaten at to know this place just isn’t worth it.

We always go here on special occassions. I find I get the same quality food at ½ the price of downtown steak houses. I also love the ambiance which is more of an old world steakhouse than a swanky, modern, one. We have only ever eaten steaks. Steak and potaotes. That is all we get. I can’t give any review on fish/pasta etc. and, frankly, would never pay super high restaurant prices for a slab of fish or a dish of pasta anyway. The steaks are always perfect. I am a big fan of Medium Rare and they always come out MR and not Medium. The cocktails are amazing, as well. If you don’t get the burned onions, you are going to miss out on something spectacular. WHY a plate of super crunchy/sweet carmelized onions are so amazing, I do not know. They just are. The service is always very very good, with older, experienced waitstaff. I’ve never had enough room to eat dessert! It’s usually hopping and busy on a weekend. We’ve never eaten at the bar or gone there for lunch, but the bar always seems quite popular. We are young, and we’ve eaten in some of the best, new, restaurants in town. But there is something sincere and comforting in Myron and Phil’s. And the quality of the steak for the price cannot be beat. I love them and I hope they never change!

Traditional steak house of Chicago with that old town feel and over thirty years plus in business. Heck this is Hillary Clinton’s favorite steak spot in Chicago. Stop by any weekday, early evening and bump into the Levinson’s or Flo and Morty. Hah, but really. They would be here, repeat business for the great service. Freebies like the chopped liver pâté with pickled veggies and house made breads. When I’m in that mood for a good steak close to home, a couple heavy poured cocktails and some karaōke fun, I’m headed to Myron’s. Best to call for reservations because tables do fill up nightly. Complimentary valet service when you pull into their lot.

I used to frequent M&P’s for lunch on a regular basis when I worked in the neighborhood a decade ago. Loved it! First time back for dinner in many years. Loved the ambiance… hasn’t changed. Chopped liver on pumpernickel delicious! Took a look at the menu… the prices… oy gevalt!!! I’m sorry, but $ 14 for a hamburger, $ 19 for spaghetti w/marinara, $ 37 for 6 lamb chops… what are they thinking??? My burger was«ok». Salads are nothing special… iceberg, tomato, etc… heavy on the dressing so ask for it on the side. The saving grace was that they had a kids menu…$ 2 for meal/drink. My daughter had two junior cheeseburgers, fries, and drink. Service 4 Stars Food Quality 3 Stars Value 1 Star

This place rocks! The chopped liver that they serve is simply one of the best that I have tasted. Served with their bread it makes the perfect palette opener for your meal. The skirt steak is cooked to perfection and very well seasoned. I had my first taste of burnt onions at Myron & Phil’s. First I thought, who would be crazy enough to serve onions cooked until they’re burned? But man I was dead wrong! The burnt onions paired with the skirt steak was a match made in heaven! Simply one of the best steak place in Chi Town!

After driving by Myron & Phil on my way to the airport my entire life, it took an episode of Check, Please! to get me to pull up to the valet, check my coat, and succumb to the relish plate. For those of you who may have missed the original WTTW air date, get thee to anon just to watch Fred Solomon, Manase Latu, Olga Camargo, and Alpana Singh yuck it up. Did you try the Green Goddess dressing? OMG. Although you can get a better steak at any number of places in Chicago, you can’t get a better Rumanian Skirt. Recent menu revisions have rendered costly formerly complimentary sides, but the free chopped chicken livers and garnishes still arrive promptly upon seating. There is no better people watching east of the Tri-State Tollway, and be sure to spend a few minutes in the adjoining gem of a bar. Be on the lookout for Fred, Nana Feinberg, and your Grandma’s grandma.

Surreally bad. So bad it’s almost SNL-worthy. The chopped liver on raisin rye really is very good. Almost as good as Kaupfman’s in Skokie. That’s where the good ends. Anyway, New Years eve. Place is half full. My SO and I are looking forward to a nice steak dinner we always have. Instead of going to a tried and true staple like Ruth’s or Wildfire or such, I get an urge to be all daring and ethnic so we head off to M&P. Walk in(while being stared down by a variety of Jewish folks, none of whom were younger than 70 [which explains the mandatory valet]). Everyone is wearing coats. Some, hats. So I figure, no big deal — old folk get cold easily. Very attentive waiter, announced specials, got us the praised above liver. Then I realized why the elderly were bundled up. It’s freaking freezing inside! And when I say freezing — dude, I mean it. We were re-seated away from the drafty outer wall and it was still cold. People who sat next to us wore coats as well. Moving on to drink orders. I get a vodka tonic — comes without a lime. Now, please someone tell me how a bartender at a steak place not know that tonic everything gets a lime? No big deal, got the lime on the side. Though at that point I should have known. Salad; meh, bagged variety. There was a hair in my SO’s salad. Entrees arrive. Whitefish and prime rib. Prime rib — ok, not good, but ok. Very fatty. The fish — oh vey… it smelled like pond water. I actually thought it may have been catfish. Either way, that creature probably died a natural death long before it reached our table. But the worst — and I want to emphasize, that I have NEVER seen that anywhere, not even at diners. It were the sides. Behold, the chilled(not even warm), hard-crusted and impenetrable mashed potatoes and the wilted, brown canned spinach. This is why the place gets one star — there is never an excuse for cold and crusted sides. Who does that? Now, I am almost crying because my SO is really ticked off(like it’s *my* fault they suck… but that’s another story), it being a NYE and all. The waiter asks how is everything, so we politely tell him it worse than bad. He called a manager/owner, who was very sweet, and comped the meal, and gave us a certificate for dinner next time, that it will be *very different*, etc. Now, it was appreciated, but we didn’t want a free meal(I hate not paying as much as I hate bad food… or food that’s not even remotely fresh). We tipped the server well of course, none is his doing(and the service was great). Overall, the night was ruined. We blew a desert and stopped at Baskin Robbins on way home. Highlight of the eve; Jamoca Almond, here we come. That gift cert we got, I gave to my parents. Just can’t imagine going to M&P again. I know they went — but didn’t say anything afterwards. I don’t want to ask, afraid to get cursed out. should they volunteer, I’ll post an update. At the moment, this is it.

Alright, so I finally got around to writing this review. Took me long enough, jeez. I’m terribly popular and have many engagements… with my couch. Don’t you judge me. Anywho, I had the pleasure of this fine establishment’s yummy goods with a group of lovely girlfriends prior to a night at the theatre. They are regulars here and are quiet friendly with the staff and owners. As such, I was greeted by one server with a hug and a kiss. Talk about personal attention. The owner even stopped by the table at one point to chat. We’re so special. We were promptly seated and our server showed up and brought a fun attitude with her, which always makes for an entertaining meal. They have these cool old black leather chairs with silver studs, which I was digging. The overall atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming and the noise level in the place was never terribly loud. Well, except when I was blathering on about something. I ordered a Filet Mignon with some kind of creamy mushroom sauce with a soup as the appetizer. I don’t remember what kind of soup it was, I just have fond memories of it being very tasty and finishing the bowl. As for the steak, damn was that yummy. Cooked exactly as I asked and although cream sauces can sometimes gross me out, the second I took a bite I was in love. Also, I asked the server to choose a wine to compliment the meal and she did a resounding job of it. I wish I could tell you what everyone else ate, but I was so busy having a great time that I wasn’t really paying attention. I’m sure I’ll partake of the succulent steak the next time we have a girl’s night out. I’ll have to see how else they serve it. MMmmmmm… meat.

I have to upgrade my rating. Mike, one of the owners from Myron & Phil’s sent the nicest message, inviting me back to their place… with an offer for a complementary dessert. I am a push over for engaged customer service! Besides, I truly liked the chopped liver and pumpernickel bread… so much so, that I’ve been back.

Myron and Phil’s is so «old skool» that I should be spelling it «School»! But this place rocks and is seriously worth the trip to Lincolnwood. Picture a traditional steakhouse with the walls covered with pictures of the celebs that have eaten there over the years. Reservations are still taken in a big thick black book(no computers here). and there is also a piano bar that you can sip your martini at. You can just imagine what this place looked like back in the day. As I pulled up in the lot, a man rushed out and took my car. I had to give him the once over just because he looked like a patron and not a valet and when I asked if I got a ticket– he said«No, I know who you are. Your car will be ready when you leave». Really? Chalk up one to what was going to be a serious of great experiences. We grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a couple of martinis. Perfectly poured, they went great with the complimentary spreadable cheese and crackers that they set down before us. A note of caution– try to resist eating all the crackers as you don’t want to ruin your dinner!(did I just write that or are Myron and Phil channeling my mother?) We were seated at our table and presented with complementary chopped liver, and accompaniments. Now I have to admit, I am one who usually sees liver, sticks my nose up in the air and says, «I don’t eat liver». But our waiter was having none of that. He told me to take the dark bread, liberally spread it with butter, the chopped liver, and top it with a roasted pepper and some raw onions. Really? I ventured a small bite and then another. I was in liver heaven! Who knew? Our steaks were great(perfectly prepared) as were the variety of sides that we had, from the specialty potatoes, to creamed spinach to roasted mushrooms. If I had a wish– it would be that the wine list was a little more robust, but I suspect that it suffices for the«regulars» who frequent this place. The service was outstanding– every need noticed and accommodated. Our server even brought us a complimentary hot fudge sundae to split(homemade hot fudge) that was amazing and somehow we managed to eat it all! And just when we were leaving and I was wondering how to retrieve my car, the man who took it appeared and said«Your car is already up front, and I warmed it up for you». Again. Really? Who does that? So as we got into our warm car on this very cold night– I wanted to know– just who are Myron and Phil? As they have a new fan in me!
