Kalapaki Shave Ice

I researched shave ice all over Kauai before my trip and totally didn’t expect the the best, fluffiest shave ice would be this little hole in the wall right by my hotel. The prices are so reasonable, about $ 4 for a nicely sized portion and any three flavors. The shave ice itself was so impossibly soft and fluffy! Very refreshing to just walk here and cool off after an afternoon at Kalapaki Beach.

…And we are hooked. We made a special trip to come back for me before we left the island.

Best shave ice on Kauai! We rented SUP paddle boards next door and the guy recommended this place for the Burgers next door. We had room left for shave ice and so glad we came here! It’s he best. We had Uncles shave ice in Koloa and liked this much better. We had Lillicoi, coconut, and lychee with ice cream, cream topper and li hung mui powder on top. It was fantastic! We’ll be back!

Connected to the Kalapaki Beach Hut this place is your go-​to for shave ice in the Kalapaki Beach area. We got the coconut cream pie special which is coconut and banana syrups, vanilla ice cream in the middle, and topped with sweet cream & coconut flakes. It was absolutely divine! The syrups weren’t overly sweet or sugary and the ice cream in the middle was tasty. Good price too.
There’s a couple picnic tables and stools if you want to eat your sweet treat there. Perfect way to end our trip!

Super yummy and ice texture was perfect! Great selection of flavors, acai bowls, fruit smoothies, & milkshakes too! Can get busy there, so be prepared for a line during the lunch rush, but service is fast once you get your order in. They take cash or card, so that’s a plus too. Enjoy!

There are a couple of other shaved ice places around this are and I was most looking forward to trying this place out. Back in May, I tried to come here but it was closed til «summer» and so I was initially happy to see this place open this time around.
Shaved Ice — How much did it cost? $ 4 something — close to $ 5. They can do a lil better with the signage. No place that mentions cost or the various powders/​milk/​extras you can get aside from the flavors.
So why a 3 star? Of the handful of shaved ice places, this was definitely the most finely shaved place. It almost had the texture of juice. The instant you put a spoon in your mouth, it’s complete liquid. Thus, it also melted into liquid more quickly than others. And to top off my experience, I had requested for Li Hing Mui powder and Condensed Milk on top which they forgot.
It’s just my personal experience but if you like super finely shaved ice — this is the spot for you. Remember to order at the little hut on the porch next to the beach hut burger place. I think I may try the smoothie next time!
