Maybe we came at the wrong time of day. Let me start off by saying that our server for the evening was very friendly but the food was not that great. My husband sent his food back. My sushi was good though. The owner was walking around greeting people who seemed to be locals only. That was very rude. Never came to our table once.

Calamari was ah-mazing! Our server was aweso. w, so sweet! They didn’t have buns for my honey’s lamb burger so it was really hard for him to eat, but I thought it was a really good place for a family to eat…

We love, great pancakes. The chicken rice and eggs with gravy, omg, too die for. We had a cute little table outside. The young waiter was awesome, great service with his wonderful smile. If your hungry, eat at Bamboo and skip lunch

I would start with the good, the server was courteous. I think she was new, as she couldn’t pronounce some of the items on the menu. She did, however, remove items off our bill. Why? I’ll tell you about that soon. The restaurant is very close to the Marriott resort. You can walk there(you won’t want to very soon). The restaurant is somewhat small, boarding on medium. There are even seats outside. Sign says no alcohol outside, though. Hippies The food Edamame — cold, very cold. Like it had been sitting out an hour. The few pieces I had were Tasteless. Our two year old liked it though, he also chews on penny’s. So i wouldn’t rely on his appetite Calamari appetizer– extremely hot, I guess if you burn off your tastebuds, you can’t complain of flavor. I admit, there were good. Came with two dipping sauces. Udon noodles, our server split them into 2 bolls, which helps a two and four year old«share». The noodles were good. The kids ate them up, they were hungry. Hot sake, it was sweeter than usual, but it had alcohol. That’s all that mattered. Salmon sushi — Now to the super bad news. I mean so bad, I’m thinking of calling someone about food safety. So so so bad. The fish was spoiled. Raw fricken salmon, spoiled and served to me and my kids, yes they love sushi. This salmon had a funky smell and was slimy. Did I mention that half the fish had turned BROWN? they still served it to us. This could have given us unwanted potty time. Or even worse, a trip to the hospital. I have had a ton of sushi in my life and NEVER brown. It was disgusting. Shame on you Salmon poke– same salmon, same nasty color. Sushi rolls — I refused to eat it. They clearly have no standards, so why chance it? Summary: if I want to poo my pants, I’ll drink a bottle of laxatives, not eat bad fish. You can make me sick, but don’t mess with my kids. There bodies aren’t as strong. Plus if I pop my pants, I can clean myself up. My kids can’t, and I don’t want to clean up poo. I also would like to stay out of the hospital. The server took the toxic salmon off the bill but we went home hangry.(Hungry and angry) Seriously, don’t eat here. Please don’t! Even if you enjoy pooping yourself and violently puking in the toilet, you should still stay away. It’s not safe. I will upload pictures. I forgot to mention. The manager refused to come out and talk to us. That’s pretty disrespectful when a customer has a huge complaint and he refuses.

The good: Large portions, fairly fresh sushi, friendly staff The bad: There were flies diving into our food the whole meal – found about 3 or 4 in my food. Not ideal…

Excellent food. Portions were very large. We got there a few minutes early for dinner and they were very nice about having us sit and taking our order. They checked on us regularly. Excellent service. We’ll be going back tomorrow.

No so impressed… went for breakfast. Sat down and ordered and as we were waiting for our meal someone came out of the kitchen that made me wonder about our meal. He looked like me needed a long scrub down cloths were dirty. Hair all over the place. When my meal arrived it was wrong and there solution to fix it was to bring me the pineapple that went inside it on the side at no charge. Oh and I forgot to mention that when the meal come so did the flies. So many that it was difficult to enjoy my breakfast. I will not be returning

Such an unfriendly server who brought a tiny fork and a tea spoon for my saimin. The other tables were served chopsticks and soup spoons. It was quite funny for me to get a fork and a tea spoon. Second drink was left at the bar for a while so we had to go get it. After she dropped off the food, she came back with a check. Definitely not an attentive server at all. Saimin was too salty, I couldn’t even try the soup. The teriyaki steak had too much fat. She wouldn’t have known about the food since she never checked out us. My generous 2 stars is we only liked the breakfast before. By the way, some people who work at the service industry should know how to smile.

My fave, breakfast-fried rice loco moco no green onions egg on the side… Auntie Barbara’s original pancakes recipe with homemade coconut syrup. Lunch-fried saimin, no green onions and/or Korean chicken. Dinner-any of the sushi rolls!

This place was kind’ve a hole in the wall that no one knows about because they’re shadowed by dukes. But i was surprised that this place only have 3 stars because their service and food was eggsellent! The pupus steak moco and their macadamia nut pancake was the perfect mixture of sweet and meat. I was only disappointed in the orange juice because it tasted like tang powder orange juice. The Portuguese sAusages was the perfect appetizer too. Long story short prices are reasonable and food was great.

According to their restaurant menu, they are known for their pancakes and sushi. Therefore, I’ve decided to come here for their breakfast to try the well known pancakes and dinner to try out their sushi menu. I don’t want to miss out for anything. This restaurant is located right next to the nearby beach. You still can see and hear it while sitting in. It also has a small bar area for you to enjoy your drinks while watching TV. The entire dining area is very opened with lots of natural sunlight coming in it. I ordered a short stack pancakes with banana and blueberry toppings. I have to be honest — it was tasty but very average. The service in the morning wasn’t as good as the service we received at dinner time. I ordered two specialty rolls(Alright roll and I forgot the name of the other one), it was quite tasty. The fish is fresh and they do give you generous portion of fish. Their bamboo pupa is very delicious as well. The meat is tender and well marinated. If I am craving for sushi again, I’ll definitely come back here again. In case the owner is reading this view, I want to make a note that the busboy last night is a hard worker. I watched him work for an hour. He was either welcoming guests, cleaning tables, refilling drinks or find something to do. He is definitely a good worker.

Fast & Friendly, Came here after a long morning run out of convenience and was very pleased with our breakfast. I had the steak pupu loco moco with kimchee rice. I ate every last bite. My wife had the breakfast sandwich and she was happy with it as well. Total breakfast was $ 33.00, so it was much cheaper than the Hotel. They don’t take America Express so bring cash or use the ATM outside or any other credit card. ALOHA!

The menu for sushi is very minimal and the sushi was pretty mediocre. The restaurant was open and airy and the servers were friendly and polite. Just can’t say this place had that wow factor, but it wasn’t bad at all. The edamame was delicious!

4.5 Stars actually. For those familiar with Richie’s that used to be on Umi Street, the food there was always great, with a wide and creative menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ate there most meals every time we were in Lihue because the food was so good and it was such a good value. The only issue was that the place was hard to find and it was a bit of a hole in the wall. While preparing for this trip, we were upset to learn that it had closed. Such a loss. While dining elsewhere, we found out that Richie moved on to new digs in the Anchor Cove shopping center. Not only is the location a short walk from the Marriott and from the port; but the restaurant is actually quite attractive now. The menu is the same as at Richie’s, and they now have great live entertainment too. Richie’s 2.0! Having found the place again on Unilocal,we were nonetheless reluctant to return based on all the negative reviews(not faulting the food), complaining about the slow and indifferent service. Tonight, we decided to try it anyway and we are so happy we did. The service was friendly, fast and attentive. It was impossible to empty our water glasses before they were refilled and our waitress was great. Complimentary garlic-furikake edamame arrived within a couple of minutes and the rest of our food came just after we finished it. Our waitress checked on us several times, brought the bill promptly when asked and cashed us out quickly. This was on a busy Saturday night. Richie stopped by to say hello and I told him that we almost hadn’t come because of the reviews of the service. He said that they had experienced some growing pains and improving service was now a new priority. If tonight was any example, I think they are past those issues. The food was as good as always and the band was awesome.

We had the breakfast special. Eggs, bacon and mac nut pancakes. Service was fine, got an outside table. Liked the view but it could be better for sure. For breakfast, it is perfectly fine. I assume other times of day are not so good given all the hate on the service but we had fun and left full.

I have never been angrier and disappointed when leaving a restaurant. Horrible service food etc, fought with the flies for our meal. Waited and waited for our check only table? When I brought up my disappointments the wise server said everybody loves the place. Again only table.

Not sure why this place gets such bad reviews — my husband and I went this past week both once for breakfast and once for dinner. The dinner we did was on happy hour — which they have Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s from 530 to 630. For dinner we were able to get 4 rolls of sushi for half price and an appetizer. All was wonderful — the crab roll is quite spectacular but the rest were delicious as well. The service was right on, we felt very well taken care of. For the breakfast we had the moco loco with kimchee rice and the pancakes with macadamia nut sauce. So good! Both things were amazing. Again the service was great. I can see why some people would be put off by the roosters running around, but while we were there they did their best to keep them out but let’s be honest it’s the roosters island. Also, there was a pesky fly hovering around us but with a breeze through restaurant like this it’s hard for that not to happen. Overall, glad we listened to our guide book which gave bamboo an Ono rating. There’s was more on point then most of these reviews and I think it’s worth the risk!

Bamboo is conveniently located close to the Marriott resort. The food was ok, but the service was slow(even for island standard). If they increase their wait staff and train them well, this location would be a gem.
