The 1 – 3 star reviews are misleading. It’s mostly coming from tourist who haven’t acclimated to the culture of Kaua’i. The service is not designed like a metropolitan area where certain expectations are in place. It’s the best Beef Katsu I’ve had on the island. The rolls are tasty and the service is homey. I strongly recommend this for someone looking to enjoy traditional Japanese food on Kaua’i.

Another classic favorite of mine to come home and eat at. Sushi katsu where they make the best fish tempura I’ve ever eaten. This restaurant is located in Tip Top Motel where Tip Top restaurant is in the day. Good local kine grinds. Love their Japanese food that they have and any of the options. Their green tea ice cream is the best. If you love real matcha. This green tea ice cream is perfect. Their service is usually really fast and reliable no matter how busy they are. They’re also quite friendly, always willing to slow down and speak for a few, give opinions, and refill waters. Pet peeve is when they don’t ever come by to refill your glass… and yes it does happen! You need to come and check out Sushi Katsu, it’s amazing and delicious through and through!

So when Tip Top Café closes for the day, Sushi Katsu comes in to take over the same venue. Please refer to my other review to see how much my husband and I adored Tip Top. We walked in and were pleasantly surprised. Yes, so they stuck a cute bamboo plant on the counter and now there’s a sushi chef front and center. But it works. Service was very friendly and efficient. They use those carts to service, just like Tip Top does. No alcohol, but I believe you can BYOB or sake. I got… a saimin. Yes I did not get sushi or katsu at a place NAMED after the two. But you know what? The saimin was great! The broth was so tasty. It comes with a piece of shrimp tempura. I ripped pieces of the batter off and threw it into my broth. Yummmm. It really hit the spot. My husband got the sushi/sashimi combo and for $ 30 – what a deal(see photo). And we shared a salmon roll. The fish was fresh and we really enjoyed our meal. Our meal came out to just $ 50, which is by far the best deal I’ve come across in a while at an above-average sushi joint. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try!
