Donuts were good. The Long John with Carmel glaze frosting & buttercream was super sweet– delicious though. Great pastries– cream cheese & cherry. Chocolate croissant was also very good.

The title of «Best Doughnuts in Lexington» is a highly contested and coveted one; but Magees Bakery gets my vote. Perfectly fluffy and sweet, a doughnut from Magees is a tasty treat to cure any bad day or for a weekend indulgence. They also have breakfast sandwiches, omelets, biscuits, and lunch sandwiches as well. Of course, a large cup of «southern pecan» roasted coffee is a must. The people who work at Magees are always very friendly and they have all-around great customer service. If you go on a Saturday or Sunday morning be prepared to wait in a long line– but it is worth the wait!

This is the way a bakery should be! Everything is homemade. Everything is fresh. They start baking at 330am and everything is ready when they open at 630am. However, you better come early because people show up early because everyone loves this place! They have a variety of hot coffee available with a spacious area to fix it the way you want. The aisle to the counter is lined with all their breads and cookies. They make individual pecan and transparent pies. They really are to die for! They have everything from super large Danish, the most amazing glazed donut(still warm if your there by 730am) and almond croissants. I love to grab a table and people watch because everyone buys more than they need because everything offered is amazing! So put it on your«Must try» list and order it all! I hope this place lasts forever and the community continues to support local small businesses like this and ignore the chains!

So, it has been a while since I had been here. I remember a place with simple yet delicious food and all of the comforts I had come to associate with visiting my grandmother. Unfortunately the reality of today’s meal was more of a waking nightmare. The crossiants that my husband and I had our breakfast sandwiches on were doughy in the center folks. That was a first for me, a semi-raw breakfast pastry. I wouldn’t recommend it, BTW. We didn’t discover this until we arrived home to eat them or we would have returned them on the spot. Next, they were out of the the pumpkin muffins, and ALL of the other muffins. At 9 am. Then we ordered a cinnamon bun and a donut and instead received 2 donuts but didn’t realize this until we got home and it was too late to fix it. The only reason they are getting 2 stars instead of 1 is that the donuts were ok. Such a bummer on so many different levels. Maybe it was a bad day? I hope these guys can get it together and turn it around but when we asked our local peeps about Magee’s they weren’t at all surprised and all told us that they don’t eat there anymore. Say it ain’t so! Well at least I’ve got my memories…

The service here was great and the staff is super friendly. The donuts are delicious and the breakfast sandwich was equally as delicious. The cashier asked if it was my first time and I responded yes. We paid and when I turned around 6 free donuts were handed to me since I hadn’t been there. Overall great experience and will be returning for the amazing food but most of all the great staff.

This place is cute but it is crowded on Saturday mornings. The doughnuts are phenomenal. And the breakfast menu is reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly.

Been going to Magee’s for a long time. The bakery items are fantastic and they still have the best buttercream in Lexington. I have become very disenchanted with how long it takes to simply go in and purchase bakery — you get in the same line as those ordering food, so if you want to run in and grab some items to go during breakfast or lunch you can forget about it being quick. Only one person up front at the cash register to handle everything no matter when I go in. Just takes too long and is too disorganized. Started going to Mondelli’s more and more instead; can get in and out in scant minutes.

Stopped here for a quick breakfast. The egg and sausage plates are pretty standard and plain. Nothing fancy here. However the donuts are amazing! Love the plain glazed and the cake donuts. Highly recommend the donuts!

Well worth the wait, and weight! The donuts are so dense and flavorful. The chocolate glaze on top is more like a ganache, so thick and yummy. The omlet was large and enough for sharing. Good thing I don’t live here, for it would be hard to stay away. Yum!

I had my first visit here over the weekend and was blown away by the bakery items. The Southern Pecan coffee was excellent. There was a huge line. When we got to the front, I saw the baked goods and they were gigantic. My friend got the pumpkin muffin which tasted like fall. I got a chocolate donut. It was so good — just that rich, chocolate taste without a hint of artificial flavor. I will be back.

Still 3 stars. Breakfast is very good, but the elderly lady is very indifferent and almost rude when she helps you. She must be the owner or a relative of the owner. Get your food to go.

I’ve yet to find a cream horn as good as MaGee’s makes. Since I live out of town, I use to ask my mother to bring me a dozen, now I settle for just one Old age, geez ;)

I’ve tried many of the baked goods including the pecan roll, cinnamon rolls, fruit danishes and the biscuit sandwiches. I’ve always been impressed. We usually pickup a couple pecan rolls to take home. Biscuit sandwiches are just the right mix of crisp and fluffy with great fillings. I haven’t tried the breakfasts or lunch sandwiches. The long lines and slow-ish service are one of the biggest problems. I suppose it is due to their success, but it seems like they could expedite the process a bit especially if you are just ordering pre-baked goods rather than something made to order. Lastly, I wish their seating area was a little cleaner. I usually takeaway for that reason. The quality and flavors of their baked goods are the reason to come to Magee’s. Try the biscuit sandwich, you wont be disappointed.

It had been years since I’d last given this place a shot. I was never blown away here and I wasn’t on my last visit to Magee’s either. I’d recently noticed a lot of reviews and photos from here, and we were in the area, so thought I’d give it another shot. I planned on ordering breakfast, but found that the breakfast items offered were extremely limited. Most of their menu items consists of sandwiches. I ordered the club sandwich which was pretty good… I’ve had better though. My husband ordered the turkey Reuben and it was quite small, especially compared to my sandwich. We split a croissant and it was ok, flaky like I like it. My sandwich was one star and the croissant was another… I can’t go much more than that. One pleasant surprise was that the fountain soda was reasonably priced. The cup was a bit small, so on my second trip up for a refill, I looked over behind the counter and I noticed filth. Everything back there was disgusting! I know it’s a bakery, and I’ve been in many bakeries, but this was extreme uncleanliness. Several empty tables sat unbussed and unclean the entire 30 minutes or so that we dined, we wiped down our own and noticed someone else do the same to the table next to us. It was almost as if they wanted you to take your food and leave, that’s what most people seemed to do. I don’t think I’ll be back, but felt the need to warn my fellow Unilocalers.

One of the only places that makes me wish I lived downtown. It’s a bakery with the chocolate frosting to satiate even the sweetest of teeth, but don’t sleep on their breakfast sandwiches! They are huge and for a great price!

If I could give zero stars I would. The food is nothing special but the service is horrible. The main problem being the nasty elderly woman with glasses who resembles Frances McDormand. If she isn’t present the staff is normal and fine. If she is there, she is rude and the entire staff is rude. I hate paying for bad, rude service especially when the food is mediocre. Avoid. Donuts are better elsewhere in lex. Ask Alton Brown. He recently visited Lex and tried donuts and he didn’t bother with Magees.

I visited Magee’s for the first time in December 2014. I didn’t try their famous donuts, breakfast breads and desserts, but there’s almost no way any of that could be as delicious as the sandwich they served me. I ordered egg and cheddar on toasted, fresh-baked bread. It was an amazingly satisfying breakfast — so tasty and so filling. So cheap, too! I paid just over $ 5 for the sandwich and a big cup of coffee.

Stick with the baked goods — cooked breakfast was not great. Biscuits and gravy were plain bad, hashbrowns were a pile of grease, and everything else was average(especially for the price). But I will say the pumpkin muffin was delish.

You got carb cravings? They got plenty to satiate that craving for you. What used to be a standard bakery has slowly been converted into a bakery/café with an enhanced menu. They now offer omelets, breakfast and lunch sandwiches in addition to pastry. I haven’t had a chance to try a variety of the sandwiches but I can tell you that the country ham biscuit sandwich with egg and cheese is really delicious. Who knew a tiny biscuit sandwich can fill you up so fast?!? I haven’t had their donuts in a while but I remember them to be decent(not the best in town) when we used to order them for early morning meetings. For that reason, most of my Magee’s experience has been purely take-out but recently I started to stop by for a sit-down breakfast. Now, I might be the first person to say this but when I walk into this place, all I smell is cheap sweet icing. It’s a bit over powering, especially when I’m trying to indulge on a savory/salty goodness of a country ham biscuit sandwich! I agree with others that menu signage needs a bit of help. If you go by the register and you are a bit unsure about what the menu says, your questions might not be answered in the nicest way by staff behind the register. They are definitely trying to get your order in quickly and move on to the next customer. But I should emphasize that nobody is truly rude here; they are just equipped with the ideal customer service skills. On a recent visit, I got my eye on a croissant standing behind the register without any pricing on it. It had the perfect«French brown» color that a good French croissant has. However, the pretty looking croissant wasn’t baked all the way through and what was even harder to digest was the fact that I paid more than $ 3 for that sucker! Thankfully now I know what not to order here but the experience has been decent enough that I would go back for another biscuit sandwich or even for lunch!

Glazed donuts. Just do it. Amazing! So fluffy, the dough tastes milky and sweet. A definite must-try. The omelettes are ridiculously fluffy and made to order with whatever you like. The chocolate bar donut is a little too sweet since it is filled with crème. They have 5 kinds of coffee, pancakes, cupcakes, etc. service is good. Yummilicious factor — B+
