I had the crawfish etouffe. It was really good. The prices are reasonable. Nice selection of beers.

I have been to many fundraising benefits throughout the years here where Bourbon n’ Toulouse donated the food. Being born and raised in Lexington, I greatly appreciate those in our community that give back to our community. Always a good place to get great food and company. I would love to have their version of Maque Choux! My favorites are the etoufee, jambalaya, and white chili! Thanks for cranking out great food with a smile for so many years for our Lexington community.

Fantastic! Great price and service! Never had anything like it, but absolutely delicious and potions that are hard to finish.

This was my second trip to Bourbon n Toulouse. I honestly wasn’t that impressed the first time I went. But, I decided to give it a second chance… and I’m glad I did. The first time I went, I had the vegetarian black beans & caramelized corn. It was good, but a bit too much of the same thing for me… it also seemed a bit simple. It is what it says it is… black beans and corn. This time, though, I had the Artichoke & Parmesan Cream with Mushrooms, which I liked much better. The sauce is spicy, but the creaminess of the sauce and the rice it’s served over help to cut the spice some(but it is still Cajun, so there’s still spice!). My boyfriend(who LOVES everything he’s eaten here… maybe because he’s not a vegetarian like me) got his favorite, the crawfish étouffée and loved it. I do think all of their dishes could stand to be a bit smaller and/or served with sides(other than the bread, which is good), as it is a lot of the same type and texture of food. It’s good, but it gets repetitive after a while to continually eat the same flavor. My hands-down favorite thing about this place, though, is the bread pudding. Trust me, you want to get this. And have them heat it up. And you won’t want to share it(even though it’s very large). It’s the best bread pudding I’ve ever eaten. It’s worth the trip just for it! The atmosphere here is simple and very laid back. There is nothing fancy about this place at all, which is fine with me. They aren’t pretending to be anything but a hole in the wall place with good food. The place is small, so try to go at an off time when it won’t be quite as packed full of people. The staff is nice and seem very friendly, though they also regularly seem very busy. Overall, a nice place with good food and nice people. Not my favorite place to eat in Lexington, but also not my least favorite place.(I’m also not a big fan of Cajun food, which isn’t their fault at all.) I’d certainly go back here again.

Delicious food, fantastic owners and employees and it’s right down the street from the Beer Trappe. What else do you need?! My favorite thing to order is the caramalized beans and corn over hot dogs. It sounds weird, and isn’t on the menu, but it’s incredible! The artichoke sauce, southwest étouffée with crawfish and peanut sauce(when available) are regularly rotated in my diet and I highly suggest switching out the white rice for jambalaya. I’ve actually bought a container of their sauces many times and either cooked it with chicken or mixed with a little melted cheese and served with chips as a dip at parties. I love BnT!

My annual trip back to Lexington always includes a stop at Gumbo YaYa. I’ve been going there since it was Yats and the food was always delicious. This trip my brother suggested I check out Bourbon n Tolouse. The owners are protégés of the original owner of Jozos and Yats, so I had an idea what to expect. The atmosphere is definitely laid back and Mardi Gras inspired. A simple chalkboard menu, beers, some desserts, and hot sauces. What I enjoyed was the flexibility on ordering. I couldn’t decide between their signature chicken étouffée or other entrees. Some were sold out when I got there, but I decided on a half order of chicken étouffée and half order of southwest crawfish étouffée over jambalaya($ 9.50 for a half&half over jambalaya… over white rice it’s 8.50). Unlike Gumbo YaYa there’s no pasta option(at least that I could see), but the had a slightly larger selection of sandwiches. The meats in both étouffée were great. Thick pieces of chicken along good sized crawfish tails were pretty abundant. The roux was somewhat bland. Not enough salt or spice for me. It was flavored but not as bold as I prefer. I added some hot sauce to give it that edge I like, but at YaYa, I never needed to add it. The jambalaya itself was good and hearty. I couldn’t tell individually how good it was because of the étouffée covering it. The French bread they served was buttered well, better than YaYa’s. Portion-wise, the plate was a lot of food. Very filling so no need to go overboard. Service was super fast as I had my food ready in about a couple minutes(the food is usually already cooked and sits on a steam table so it’s not truly fresh but it’s still pretty good) so no one can ever go hangry when coming here since it’ll be cured quickly. Overall I give the edge to Gumbo YaYa for fast Cajun but you can’t go wrong with Bourbon n Toulouse either. Both places are good for value, speed, and flavor. To me, Gumbo YaYa has an edge on flavor while Bourbon has an edge in variety.

I love Bourbon n’ Toulouse! If you are looking for a down-to-Earth restaurant with a friendly staff, kind owners, and, uh, oh yeah, tasty dishes at a steal of a price, you can’t do better than Bourbon n’ Toulouse. If you’re inclined to pretension or expect a candlelit dinner, then sure, it’s not for you. But if you like to chill, listen to marvelous music in a great atmosphere as you sate your hunger and thirst, please, do yourself a favor and take your friends to Bourbon n’ Toulouse. To be clear, I am in no way related to Bourbon n’ Toulouse, other than as a customer, but they do make me feel like family. I go weekly and, if I can cheese out for a minute, they are like my personal Cheers. Quite a few of them know me by name and I’m always glad I came. Thanks B n’ T!

Those who are paying attention to my other reviews up until this point will notice a string of high-star opinions. I am a generally reserved in providing such great feedback, but I’m starting with the places I’ve tried that really punched my ticket. B and T is among those kinds of places. I’ve eaten here countless times, seeing as I work just down the road. I’ve never had anything I didn’t like. Some of my favorites include the white chili with chicken and southwest étouffée with crawfish. My go-to is a split order of the two with whatever Sadistic Mistress hot sauce they have on tap. That stuff is liquid gold(move over velveeta)! I have tried just about everything on the menu at least once and wouldn’t hesitate to order any of the offerings again. If you aren’t a fan of more traditional Cajun fare, try the pork sandwich or an order of the chili dogs. Either way it’s hard to go wrong at good olé’ B and T.

Great food and quantity for the price. The flavors are a bit mild but very thick and hardy. I wish they would not make the the étouffée so thick but that is just my opinion. I’m still a more of a fan of the other Cajun place but it is still good to get my Cajun fix.

I didn’t want to eat here, but my husband did because we had a recommendation from a waitress in Louisville who used to live in Lexington. We walked by it the first time because we thought it was closed. We drove by it a second time and still got the same impression. Then we parked, and tried the door — wow, it is open. It looks like an abandoned building.(Hint — clean the windows and doors daily and get rid of some of the signs — it just is unappealing). The food was lackluster. I had the pulled chicken and I thought it was the consistency of dog food. My husband had the Crawfish Étouffée. He said it was o.k. but he wished he had ordered a ½ and ½ because it was too much of one thing. Our guts rotted all afternoon. Place is casual, feels dirty. It’s really casual and I agree with the reviewer that said this might be the cure for a hangover.

I hate giving this place three but the food was just not super great. It was fun and cheap and seemed like a great cure of a hangover, but the food was average. If you want to save a buck for a good portion of food, try it.

I don’t just hand out five start reviews, but in this case they’ve left nothing to improve. Bravo! Reasonable prices, fast service, and great selection of Cajun platters. Scooped up on paper plates served over rice or even jambalaya, with a side of toast. You can do ½ order or full order or two halfs. I opted the pick two and had gumbo and chicken étouffée. The food was delicious. They do have a gluten free menu online. Several selections of GF and vegetarian. I will be back!

Easily, this is a 5-star place. The food was amazing and served quickly. And there was a wide variety of items to choose from. Also, the price is hard to beat. I did not expect Lexington to have amazing Cajun food, but I was very impressed with this place. The atmosphere and service were also high-quality. I highly recommend giving this place a shot.

My coworker suggested we go here for lunch on a recent trip to Lexington. It’s a very casual, small Cajun restaurant. I was immediately shocked by the cheap prices. A half order of food is about $ 4.50 and a full order around $ 8. You can’t get much better than that. I ordered a half order of the white chicken chili which comes with toasted baguettes and rice. The half order was A LOT of food. I barely finished it but wanted to keep eating even after I was full because it was delicious! They also have several kinds of hot sauces you can choose from — probably over 20! We got our order to go, which was ready in less than 5 minutes. They have several tables despite the place being small for dining in. Also, if you’re feeling thirsty with your hot cajun food, they have several bottled beer selections. My colleague could not speak highly enough about this place and I can see why. This place is quick, cheap, and delicious. If you live in Lexington or are visiting, you should try Bourbon n’ Toulouse. Yum!

If you’ve never been to Bourbon n’ Toulouse you need to just go. It’s good Cajun eating at a VERY reasonable price. A real anchor point for Chevy Chase in my opinion. Plus, they always do a craw fish boil every year at the block party and its just an all around fun atmosphere. The staff are great and they deserve your big tips. My suggestion? Grab some beers at the Beer Trappe and then come here. It’s perfect«I’ve got a buzz and feel like eating» food. I’m partial to the chicken étouffée on jambalaya(instead of rice) but why not go for the double and try a couple of different dishes and see what you like? Also, don’t forget to hit up the sauce station… yes, station. They’ve got about 20 different sauces there. I always seem to gravitate to the garlic power sauce… but that’s just me. Doooo it!

I’ve been to this place now three times and every time the experience is amazing. The food here is just the best Cajun food I’ve ever had but that’s here in Kentucky. The staff is always so friendly and helpful on the menu specially for someone who’s never really had Cajun food until moving to Kentucky. I always get the jambalaya with some sort of chicken dish with it. I will always say it comes out just right every time. The food here makes me think of soul food in the way, just so much work putt in but at the same time so simple. This place has really become a regular for me at least once a month I’m here just to see if they have anything different for me to try. I would recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a good Cajun place in town and loves the downtown feel.

I went there today for lunch. OMG! The food is SPICY. I ordered the ½ red beans and rice and ½ jambalaya. My mouth is still on fire! It was delicious and I would definitely go back. I need to make sure that I have lots and lots of water. For lunch, this place is pretty popular. There was a line at the register and all of the tables were taken. I lucked up and was able to find a parking spot on the street. My meal cost $ 7.50 which is cheap!

Unilocal needs ½ stars(or maybe only I do), because BnT is between 3 stars and 4 stars for me. So I gave them the extra ½ star for atmosphere; I like ultra casual. I had a ½ and ½ with Red Beans and Sausage, and Chicken Creole. Both dishes were seasoned nicely but had less protein than I expected. The white rice was slightly overdone. Order at the counter and find a seat or place to wait. My food came out almost instantly so it was probably dished from a steam table. The food was warm but I would have liked it hotter. The price offsets the cons. My ½ and /12(which left me full) and a bottle of soda was $ 9. So it isn’t NOLA’s best but it’s a cheap enjoyable meal, and I’ll come back to do it again.

Pound for pound, New Orleans is my pick for best food city in America. Cajun, creole, po’boys, gulf seafood, crawfish, John Besh, Emeril, beignets, iced coffee. Americacadia at its finest. We had tried to squeeze in a brunch proper before our flight out of Lexington, but the coffee-and-eggs type places all seemed to have some sort of unruly wait that we were unwilling to partake in. Thus, we ultimately drove to another place I had bookmarked, the über-grungy(unbeknownst to us), very delicious Bourbon n’ Toulouse. In the Crescent City, the intersection of Bourbon and Toulouse, a stone’s throw from Pirates’ Alley, Jackson Square, and St. Louis Cathedral, is home to some of the finest nighttime debauchery NOLA has to offer. With a baby in tow, we strode up to the counter to order, and promptly got coochie-coo’s from the gruff, bearded gentleman manning the counter. Good start. The menu(counter-ordering, big-board style) has each and any and every New Orleans favorite you could want, with the option of going halfsies on a plate. We opted for four fine choices: jambalaya, crawfish étouffée, gumbo, and red beans & rice. There’s a nice mess hall of seating available, with a medley of delicious hot sauces to pick from. The food takes a few, comes out on a styrofoam plate with plastic silverware, but is extremely affordable and, to put it mildly, a dang steal. Each plate comes with French bread with some sort of delicious garlic-butter spread. Pound for pound, price for price, this is some good food that reminds me of the real thing, baby.
