Pros: –The location was awesome(at NAS Gate 3). –Pet friendly(although«aggressive breeds» aren’t allowed, my 80 pound Greyhound wasn’t an issue) –Maintenance issues were handled efficiently for the most part(as long as you put in the request online, as the maintenance personnel cannot fulfill service requests without a ticket being put in, so you can’t see them outside and tell them you have an issue). –Dog park(although the grass was getting very sparse when I left due to usage) –Walking trails –Beach access –Car wash area(except for during winter months) –Generally quiet neighbors Cons: –The sound of freedom(jet noise from the base due to great location) –Issues with landscaping(grass didn’t get mowed for several months during the prior winter, also in the dog park, the landscapers mow over any toys/balls that are left) –Old appliances in some units(they are working on updating these, or so I was told) –Beach access means that random people will come and park at Spyglass and take up resident parking(during the summer the towing policy is strongly enforced) –Sewer issues(I wasn’t effected by this since I lived on the 2nd floor, but several 1st floor apartment weren’t repeatedly flooded with backed up sewage). -$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$(they will nickel and dime you over everything. Parking is a fee each month, pet rent(price scale based on weight) + deposit, there is kayak storage available for a monthly fee, nothing is included in the price of rent(you will pay for ALL utilities(water/trash/sewer runs $ 65 – 85 per month))) My biggest issue with living at Spyglass was having friends in the community and seeing that some had all upgraded appliances/new cabinets/linoleum vs carpet and were paying significantly less($ 100 – 200 less) than I was«due to market prices.» The community was great, but I felt like I was getting raped of every dollar they could possibly get out of me. They will give you an itemized list of things they could possibly charge you for upon move out if the items don’t meet their criteria when you leave Spyglass. There isn’t really an acceptable«wear and tear» condition. ANY marks on the walls/shelves/doors were noted and I would have been charged for them if I hadn’t been standing there with my paint and brush in hand to cover them. They use a flat white paint on every possible surface(including shelving in closets) that will show every possible mark, ever. Examples: any light bulbs that haven’t been replaced by the final inspection will be a $ 5 charge. Blinds that aren’t perfect are a $ 10 charge. You are also REQUIRED to have your carpets professionally cleaned before move-out(renting the cleaner and doing it yourself isn’t acceptable) and you are required to show the receipt. Finally, I’ve experienced better with much less hassle at the end.
