Milt came to our home. Assessed what wr had offered us a solution and we agreed and signed a contract with them. Ten days out he called and left a voicemail message saying they were not going to be able to preform the contractually agreed upon services. Avoid these folks

Milt came to our home and assessed all items within the house. I work in the auction industry, so I know value and knew we didn’t have much. I informed him Auction Ohio said it wouldn’t be worth their time, to which he responded, «We never tell customers something isn’t worth our time.»
Milt rushed us through the contract and said, «It’s just legal mumbo-​jumbo. The only important things are that you’re promising what you’re selling belongs to you and that the $ 300 you give me now serves a down payment for us to start work, which we keep if you decide not to do this after we’ve started to work.» Foolishly in a hurry to move, we didn’t read through all 5 pages and trusted Milt’s explanation of the process. So I will say: READ THE CONTRACT because Milt isn’t upfront.
I walked Milt through the house before his team arrived to show him what was and was not for sale. Several times prior to the sale, he forgot about items that were off limits and put price tags on them, which I had to remove.
After two days of his team slowly processing everything, often in idiotic ways, such as taking wires from an X Box and moving them into a box of wires that was to be sold for scrap, I came back to the home at night to see how everything was priced. They did not leave no stone unturned, as many items, most of which had value, were not even priced. Others were priced ridiculously low, especially considering Milt said if something doesn’t sell on day one, it’s sold at 50% off on day two. Most shockingly, in spite of Milt telling us anything not sold would be donated, I went to throw something away and there was a pile of perfectly good clothes in the trash prior to the sale. I couldn’t even take them out because the staff tossed their McDonald’s on the clothes.
The estate sale came and went. The house, which Caring Transitions promised would be left «broom clean», was a complete wreck. So much so that the buyers of our home threatened to not close for that reason and 3 others attributed to Caring Transitions, which was problematic, as we’d already moved across the country. Caring Transitions also removed my son’s closet door to display clothes and never put it back on. They sold our TVs and ripped them off the wall, leaving big holes. They didn’t remove the unsold items before we requested, so we couldn’t complete certain repairs.
The WORST part — when we finally got in touch with Milt after he continually made up excuses to call us later, he told us we grossed $ 1700. He provided no proof of sales, so that number is probably made up. He said their fee was actually 35% of the sales or $ 2500 minimum. First we heard that because we never got a copy of the signed contract.
Milt told us not only was he keeping all $ 1700 plus our $ 300 deposit, but we OWED him $ 900 for selling OUR items (he can’t do math), which we could have simply given to Goodwill for free and received the tax write-​off. Milt also told us anything unsold would be taken to their warehouse and sold or donated and we’d receive a receipt of that, which never happened.
I called Caring Transitions corporate office to resolve this. I was promised a call which never came and it took four calls before someone finally got in touch with me. Joel Roadruck (Operations Manager) said he’d be in a meeting Wednesday, so he’d call latest Friday (no call).
I left another message Friday and received a call from Joel Monday. Joel feigns sincerity and acts as if he sees your point; however, he will constantly interrupt and he basically blamed me in an indirect way. He told me if I called 1800GOTJUNK, they’d charge me too and something similar to what I had stolen by Milt, so I got a «good deal». Of course, he overlooked my point that it was not junk — Milt sold 2 large flat screens for around 500, as well as a vintage WW2 family heirloom. Had I known I’d receive nothing selling these through Milt, I would have given the items to my family members to have or store.
Joel told me he’d get the contract from Milt and a 11 days later, nothing. I initially reminded him about the contract in an email showing the pictures of the clothes Milt threw away, which merited zero response from him.
When I finally received the contract, Milt sent me an invoice stating that I owed him over $ 1100 for selling my items, including a charge for me «taking» items from the house I told him prior to the sale were NOT for sale. He is a senile con artist who has an open state tax lien and is $ 18,000 behind in property taxes, so he has major incentive to screw you. I’ve never dealt with a more dishonest man and company.
You can never predict how much a sale will bring, but if there’s a minimum and you’re an expert at assessing valuables, shouldn’t you tell someone they might not meet that threshold and could owe? Those guys did minimal work for a lot of money and left me with nothing but a bill for over $ 1,000 when I could have taken my valuables I thought would bring me money to have after my move.
