Every town(or at least every other town) on Long Island has one of those«special bakeries» that everyone flocks too on weekends and for holidays. They cram inside and wait on long lines as the shelves empty out. This place is GOOD — don’t get me wrong on that. I have only sampled their elephant ears(my personal bakery favourite next to the black & white twist sugared«pretzels») But what I find MOREAMAZING is that they are open till 9:00PM on week nights! Please– show me one bakery — on the planet earth –that has these hours !

I got a birthday cake for someone from them. It was early Monday morning so I did not expect so many options but they were there. I was especially anxious because I wanted to get a fruity cake and I’ve only had cheesecake and chocolate cake from here. But they had it and it was good, although the assortment of fruits included canned pineapple(why put that stuff on a cake?). The worker was very helpful. It’s still kind of expensive and there are other options around, but I would revisit if I wanted a fruit tarte or cake, since there are not as many places that can do fruit options well.

This is my go-to holiday bakery. Even though some hardcore dessertophiles like to get there in the wee hours of the morning, I find that getting there an hour before opening leaves you with about an hours wait to get in the door. The time goes quicker than you expect, so long as you have a good crowd in line around you. Once inside, the selections are vast. For Christmas, I scored a banana cream pie, a blueberry crunch cake, and an assortment of different pastries. Everything was delicious, as usual. If I could change one thing, I would have liked the blueberry filling in the crunch cake to be a little sweeter. But it was still good overall. The prices aren’t too bad either. I left with enough desserts to satisfy 15+ people with leftovers to spare and I spent under $ 45 in all. While on line on Christmas Eve day, there was free coffee and croissants available for everyone on line to help themselves to. That mixed with good conversation with other people on line made the wait go rather quickly. Besides the goodies I got for Christmas, I came here months ago and got a gluten-free birthday cake. When I think«Gluten-Free», I instantly think I’m going to get something less than average. Not here! In fact, the gluten-free cake I got was so moist and delicious, I have ordered it since instead of a regular birthday cake, even when our gluten-free family member isn’t present. So far, they are my favorite Long Island bakery that I have stumbled upon. :-)

Dortoni is an old style New York bakery that just tempts you to bring every single thing in their display cases home with you. I just thank goodness that the yummy aroma does not permeate through the windows, allowing me to shop I n the shopping center most days and not have to go into this place more often than I need sweet baked treats. The custom cakes are something that should be on TV, but the pastries and other cookies and delights look and taste just amazing. Suffice to say, I’ve heard a lot of praise for this bakery, but now having shopped there twice, I will be a regular. Hopefully not too regular for my waistline’s sake.

I’ve been looking for a bakery close to home that I could always count on and I think I found that in Dortoni. Great selection of cakes and at a great price! For $ 20 you can get yourself a cake that feeds 6 people and it tastes great. From cookies to cake and everything in between. We had the tiramisu which was so good. More mascarpone than cake, but still delicious. Can’t wait to come back here and try the rainbow cookie cake. Be sure to check this place out the next time you need a cake or some cookies, you won’t be disappointed!

I ordered my engagement cake all the way from Washington, DC! This bakery was very responsive and patient with my several emails. We went with the vanilla cake with nutella and dulce de leche fillings. All my guests loved it! One think I would have liked was knowledge of the size of our cake layers but the attendant wasn’t able to give me a size. It made finding a cake topper a bit more difficult. Overall I recommend them and the cake was well worth the price!

This bustling bakery offers everything you could imagine from cakes and cookies, large and small pastries, macaroons, marzipan, breads, and even more. Ordering cakes is fast, easy, and affordable! Oh, and their samples are huge slices of breads, loads, etc. everyone is nice, which is surprising for the volume that comes through traditional– go for some Italian cookies. Adventurous– how about a rainbow cookie cannoli cake. Thu recently added 1 gluten-free item: a loaf cake. Haven’t tried it yet.

I have never actually been to the bakery or communicated with the business directly. However, I just had my wedding at Swan Club this past Sunday and this was the bakery that provided the cake. We did a cake tasting at Swan Club a few months prior and fell in love with their red velvet cake. Thankfully, our actual wedding cake was just as good as those first bites we took at the tasting. Seriously, everyone raved about the cake and asked for more – many stating it was the best cake, not just the best wedding cake, they ever had and I would say that is pretty on point. I’m not usually a fan of sweets but their red velvet cake is to die for – definitely one of the best cakes I have ever had. Being foodies, good food from beginning to end was one of the most important things for us and we’re so glad our cake pleased even our most cultured and well traveled foodie friends! Only reason for 4 stars is our cake was a baby pink instead of coral as it was in the book and we initially choose the design because coral is one of our wedding colors. Not a big deal to me since I was more focused on how freaking delicious the cake was but I can see how some brides may get really peeved so thought I would note it.

I’m not quite sure how I never realized before that I haven’t reviewed my favorite bakery yet until this weekend, but let me tell you all… if you’re going to cheat on a diet like I did this weekend… Dortoni’s is the place to go to get the best cakes, breads, pastries, cannolis, cupcakes, etc. My family has been going to Dortoni’s ever since I can remember & my 4th birthday party cake was a strawberry shortcake with the character Strawberry Shortcake on it. Still to this day, I can never get enough of that cake. The selection of cakes, cookies, & pastries is astounding & everything is decorated so beautifully & tastes as good as it looks. Literally. From the tiramisu to rainbow cookies which are so moist & flavorful & some of the best I’ve ever had anywhere hands down, to the black & white cookies(which today I also noticed they have just black cookies & that’s my favorite part), to the marzipan, to the banana cream cream, to the fruit custards with the crispy crust & delicate creamy custard with ripe fresh blackberries, blueberries, & strawberries on top, to the chocolate covered cannolis with regular or chocolate filling, to the mini tart yet sweet key lime pie… there is literally nothing you can get here that won’t impress the people you share it with. The fruit tart & Napoleon always steal my taste buds!!! Love this place!

We got a complimentary cake from Dortoni when we booked with our venue(Inn at New Hyde Park), and it was for this reason that I was expecting a mediocre cake — both in looks and taste. No one really expects quality if it’s free. However, when we went for our tasting two months before our wedding, when we were allowed to taste six fillings with both chocolate and vanilla cake, my then-fiancé and I were pretty quickly smitten with the moist cakes and the delectable fillings… and neither of us are at ALL big on sweets. When the woman who was working with us saw how torn we were between two fillings — berries in chantilly cream and Nutella — she suggested we do alternating layers of both. I felt like hugging her. I also showed her pictures of the cake we wanted, which was an ombré cake that gradually went from white to a very pale pink as it went down the tiers. She seemed to understand and even had me choose the colors with paint chips, which seemed impressively painstaking, so imagine my slight surprise when on wedding day, I saw a cake that had ended up with colors that were unfortunately much darker and more stark than the paint chips I’d selected. We chose not to make a fuss(mostly because at that point, there wasn’t much we could do) and we were glad that while the Dortoni’s color palette may have been off, the taste was on point. Our guests were raving about our cake long after the wedding, and we ourselves weren’t able to save the top tier until our first anniversary as tradition would have it because we couldn’t stop ourselves from eating it as our first week of marriage went by — it was that delicious. If you decide to get a wedding cake here and you want it to look a certain way, I’d really recommend printing a picture that you can leave behind with Dortoni so that they’re clear about your expectations. Other than that, both we and our guests were really happy to dig into our delicious cake course!
