My brother comes here all the time to get his haircut and my mom went the other day and I loved how they cut her hair. So I decided to go, even after reading the bad reviews on Unilocal but I’m so glad I went. I wanted change so I asked them to cut about 5 inches off and they did exactly that and it came out better than I expected. The hairstylist are not one to chat, and they just concentrate on what they do best.

The owner’s skilled but they never keep their appointments. I arrive 10 – 15 minutes early, and still wait at least 30 minutes to an hour longer than the appointed time. I should really find someplace better…

They have you wait for 45 – 50 minutes without saying any apology(when I made an appointment over the phone. The owner gave me a different price over the phone and charged me $ 50 more than originally promised. On top of that, the hair came out really bad. It was everything that I hate most: flat, dull, … I guess I should venture more for better place than this one.

Absolutely wonderful place. I came in with a long ponytail of thick, difficult hair and came out looking(and feeling) like a movie star. It is usually very difficult for me to find a salon I trust, as my hair is inevitably a problem for every stylist I meet. I was there for 4 hours, and believe me, it was a process! I would definitely recommend Jay Hair Salon. The price was $ 190 for me,(which I consider a lot) but I have to say, it was entirely worth it considering how long I was there. Also consider that I had almost everything you could do, done to my hair, and then factor in how thick and difficult it is. The result was wonderful, the staff was incredibly professional. They really care about the quality of their work. Now my hair is lighter, in color and length, and I am a much happier person because of it! They completely won me over and I look forward to returning!

this place is a hole in the wall. most people in the area go to places in fort lee where they are more well known with a trendier ambiance. but i’ve been going to this place for more than 7 years now and i still love it! i always make an appointment to get my hair done by the owner(Jay). yes there is some wait time, but that is expected bc your schedule depends on the people who come before you. if they are late, then everything gets pushed back. there is nothing you can do about it. Jay is the best though. if you have a picture of the way you would like your hair to be, depending on your hair type and such, she will do her best to make it come out that way. I usually go to get my hair cut and then a perm, and i have never been disappointed. I’ve tried going to other places for a cheaper price, but it ends up getting damaged or not turning out right. I love this place you should definitely give it a try!

Don’t even bother making an appointment. Still waiting for my 4:30 appointment… And it’s 6. they do not honor the time they say they can take you. to make matters worse, they may even take another person before even if they walked in AFTER you did, if they look more disgruntled than you do. therefore put your best«how much longer do i have to wait???» face on. i still can’t come up with a decent reason as to why i even waited because my bangs were cut way too short. then whoever cuts your hair will shower you with compliments to distract you from the cut-way-too-short bangs. go somewhere else… there are tons on broad ave!

This was my first time here. I had called to make an appointment ahead of time. When I arrived, I was barely greeted. Not a good first impression. I ended up having to wait about an hour before my hair was even cut. Usually, I can put up with waiting if I get a good result in the end, but in this case I ended up very disappointed. The owner cut my hair. The technique they use to cut your hair involves washing it first, then roughly blowdrying it till its about 80% dry. Then they precede to «dry cut» your hair. At the end, they will do another blowdry. At first– despite my hesitancy that my hair wasnt precision cut while it was wet, was set aside. I left the salon feeling it looked pretty good… I only requested a simple blunt cut with some front layers framing the face. However, I quickly noticed that my hair looked terrible just a few days later! My ends looked scraggly and it looked as though I needed another haircut! My blunt cut did not look clean. I was really disappointed. I have medium long Asian hair. It is easy to cut and looks good as long its cut with precision. I did not feel this was achieved in my case. In my case, I would not go back. I didn’t feel I was given any attention as a new customer, nor was I happy in the final outcome of my hairstyle.
