Great area to stay if you don’t want to pay as much to stay in Sequoia National Park, $ 20 a night, can’t really beat that! It’s also right by a lake so bring your fishing rods or boats and set sail! Camped here for labor day 2015, and everything was basically dry, so no worries on any flooding, in fact, you can see where the water level USED to be and it’s way way way lower nowadays, save water California! The campsites aren’t bad, pretty spacious, I believe they allow 2 cars, 2 tents, max of 8 people and pets allowed if on leashes to one campsite, at least the one that I rented. They should have more options than that though if you’re camping with more people. The campsite has a picnic bench, as well as a firepit for campfires, with half a grill so that you can cook food on it. BEWARE: bathrooms are not as amazing as they seem. There are only 4 bathrooms to each restroom center area(porta potties are scattered around as well) but what sucks is that the shower is in each bathroom stall, so in the morning and evening times, it’ll take hours to wait in line to just use it for the restroom. It’s unfortunate that this was designed better. I went real camp crazy and just didn’t shower the whole three days!(of course i forgot a towel too so made the decision easier as the showers were pretty gross since it’s in the same area as the toilet). Besides that though, great area, nice scenery, quiet, and spacious. Great clear night skies for star gazing(you’ll see a few shooting stars guaranteed!)

One thing you don’t have to worry about camping here is BEARS! $ 20 bucks a night and free pass to the two lakes nearby the campsite! My family and I really enjoyed it here and wish we could’ve stay longer! Free hot shower is a big plus! Make sure you bring a canopy because there’s not a lot is shaded area here! Will definitely be coming back!!!

After staying in Seqouia National Park at Potwisha, I thought this place would be adequate for a stop over, a place to flop on our way… we ended up staying here for 4 days! The lake is almost dry for most of the year, this being February. .we were able to walk across a lake, it was so cool. There was old homesteads on the bottom, including a swimming pool… very cool and surreal. When the lake fills a good portion of the campsites are under water… it was cool to imagine which sites are lakefront property: -) Check it out

Had a great time with my family here, but too many red ants, showers were inconvenient & not enough trees for shade.

This Camp site can be very hot in summer. I went there on July 3rd and it was 106 °F. I was impossible to sleep at night. If you want to go there make sure to get a spot that has some shade.

Decent campground. Stayed there 8÷14÷09 through 8÷16÷09. I was thinking that the lake would be close to the campground based on the previous reviews, but let me tell you that 8 weeks makes a HUGE difference. The lake was not visible from the campground and with about a 1 mile hike, you still could not see it. A bit dissapointing, but the site was still nice. We stayed in site 51(closest to the lake) haha. The site is wide open with NO trees. Bring your own shade!!! Great for the kids to run around. You could see them from all around. No bugs(yeah!)…probably b/c no water. Mostly grassy site. You can easily put 4+ tents here. If you get the sites next to it, you have a great big open area. The site right above is where the water is. Weird that it’s kind of in that site, but it’s a shared deal, so no big deal. The real bathrooms are only up by the camp host or way down on the other end of the grounds. They do provide port-o-potties just by the nearby overflow parking. Friday they were 8+ condition, by Sunday morning, they were a 3 – 4 out of 10. Campground actually filled up on Friday night. Not completely, but it was near capacity with cars/camper trolling through after dark looking for a spot. The host is great(Bob). He gave us passes that work at the local swimming hole(Slick Rock), just up the road about 2 – 3 miles. This was a great spot. Warm water, slow moving current. Great to float around in with innertubes or air mattresses. On Sunday, there were a significant number of locals coming up to swim, eat, bbq, entertain… didn’t have a concern for personal space, but it was still nice. Took one day to drive up to the Sequoias. It’s about 1.5 hours to the Giant Forrest museum and trails. Well worth it! We wanted to stay up in the forrest, but those grounds were full. We’ll reserve ahead next time. Overall, good spot, nice area and not any riff-raff, crazy partiers. Maybe they though that of us. :) I“ll post some pics later of the virtual lake.

I enjoy car camping. Not quite the serious«hike into your spot» kind of camping. But drive up, unload, pitch a tent and relax. This campground was perfectly just that. The sites are RIGHT on the shore of the lake. In fact, the site we reserved was UNDERWATER when we arrived in early May. They’re not joking when they say the whole campground is closed in the summer months due to flooding. Thankfully they only allow half the sites to be reserved and they moved us to an open spot, right at the front. It also gave us an easy spot to fish from the shore in the mornings and evenings. I’m glad we chose this campground when finding a weekend getaway. I heard it gets crowded inside the main campgrounds in Sequoia Park. Sites are well spaced out. Each spot had either a canopy or a tree for shade. Of course theres a fire pit too. The bathrooms were sufficient. 1 shower inside, with hot water. The local general store is within a 5 minute drive to get firewood and supplies and Kaweah Marina is close by too to rent a patio boat to enjoy the day on the lake. They will close the gate entrance at 9pm sharp. But you can park in the dirt lot or next to the gate over night. The exit is open all night, but its got those 1 way spike strips… exit only.

So I had 2 criteria for the night: 1. Tent camping 2. Open pit fire Yeah, found a place to pitch a tent right before 10pm… when this campground was closing… right in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It is not on the map… actually, passed by, on those winding mountain roads, the 2 campgrounds that were on the map, on accident… and thought it was a lost cause… until this place popped up. A great place it is. You can have it ALL here… EVERYTHING except material greed. You can watch the stars up above, Have a wild fire in your pit and A grill plate for those beer-bathed-brats(although it was a bit covered in rust) and most importantly, WIDEOPEN space. Usually, I do not like seeing headlights when I camp… but something about this place… seeing those lights high off in the distant mountain… made me feel less insignificant in this wild world. Hot showers, for free, never crowded, actually I was lucky to wave«HI» to one other human being. I think I personally counted over 5 space debris meterorites hitting the atmosphere, and my buddy counted way more than that… each visualized at different times… go ahead, child, make a wish on that shooting star! Dog friendly. Fire friendly. Me friendly. It gets 4 stars.
