I didn’t write this review because my first experience with this«BBQ truck» didn’t actually involve any bbq. I didn’t write this review because the only thing they brought with them was chili, instead of the aforementioned missing bbq. I’m didn’t even write this review because the chili was mediocre and not worth the meal ticket I used on it. No, I wrote this review for something much more dire: the hours following the meal. I’ll admit, the chili wasn’t bad. On a scale from canned chili to your Grandad’s legendary elk-steak chili, it’s a step above Wendy’s for 3x the price(really, the Heinz chili sauce has got to go). The problem, however, was that from about 15 minutes after finishing the bowl, I could feel something inside me growing and mutating into something evil and hideous. I wish I could say it surprised me. The rest of the afternoon was a blur of discomfort, resulting in what my home would come to know as the apoocalypse. Here I lie in bed, hours after what is regrettably one of the worst dining decisions of my life, recovering from finally expelling that mess from my body. The moral of the story is, don’t call your food truck«bbq» if all you sell is chili, and don’t eat chili from a food truck that calls itself«bbq.»

Apparently, these guys used to be a restaurant. I don’t know anything about that, but I’ve hit up their food truck a couple of times now, and I do admit its pretty tasty. I like the simplicity of it: pulled pork, done right speaks for itself. They went Carolina style, and I’ve enjoyed it both times. They don’t over sauce it, and the pork is tender and flavorful. The sides are BBQ beans and Potato Salad. The BBQ beans were great, and the potato salad was better than a lot of places I’ve been. Overall I really like their food. They’re *almost* really good. Gimme a better bun, give an option, … something. Hell, do a dance and make me smile. The flavor of the pork is spot on, but its’s missing a thing. I’ll keep coming out and paying, as long as they keep showing up.

Damage! I thought I’d for sure be the first person to review this place, but I missed that glory by less than a month. Oh well. I never thought there was much to do in the older part of Lehi, but it’s actually pretty sweet to look at all of the businesses and the architecture around the area. Driving down Main Street, we found Charlie Boy’s, where my friend’s band was playing a small gig. This place is great for several reasons. First of all, the set up is really chill and laid back. The place is just a small set up where you walk up to the window and order your food, then you go sit down at one of the picnic tables they have set up or the wooden chairs laid out for conversation. I can only assume this is a seasonal food stop because there’s no way people are going to chill out in the snow while eating their barbeque pork sandwich. I was expecting some kids to be working the window, but instead it was two older women, one who looked to be the wife of the owner, Charlie. Sweetest ladies ever, and super chill. I couldn’t decide between the barbeque beef and the barbeque pork, so one of them gave me a «sample» of both. This sample of both meats was enough to fill a whole sandwich with. Score. Both were really good, but the pork was so moist and flavorful, I didn’t even need to put barbeque sauce on it to make it taste good. Charlie Boy’s also serves really good homemade ice cream, which is well worth the $ 2.83. They give you enough to split with someone after being almost too full from your meal. Oh! And with your meal, they give you a bag of Famous Amos cookies — I love those things. Basically, this is place provides some good southern barbeque with good southern comfort. What a way to spend a summer night.

Barbeque opinions vary widely. Everyone seemingly likes something different. So, if you like Carolina style slow cooked pit barbeque, this place is for you. Pros: Great food! Cons: Limited menu. The menu at Charlie Boy’s is somewhat limited. Sandwiches of chicken, beef, or pig are the menu. They’ve also started offering ribs, with limited availability. You can get a platter with your choice of sandwich/ribs and two sides. Sides are, bbq beans, potato salad, coleslaw, or baked Lay’s. There are two stand-outs here. First, the sauce. A very good vinegar based sauce that really brings out the taste of the smoked meat. It is not a molasses, tomato, or mustard based sauce. It’s thin and runny. Perfect for getting into all the nooks and crannies of the sandwich. Second, you MUST try the ice cream. They have this John Deere hit and miss engine that turns the ice cream into near dairy perfection. They add extra butterfat to the mix so I don’t know how good for you it is, but it sure is good. This is an outside venue. A cook shack with picnic style seating. Be mindful in inclement weather. They also have entertainment on the weekends.
