What a lovely stay! Gina was there to welcome us, along with Ima Dog :) We are animal lovers so requested to meet the horses and pet them. They are all beautiful animals and are lovingly cared for. The house was a comfortable stay for two couples, and though the fireplace was non-functional, overall we stayed quite comfy. It was just the kitchen that still held a chill, but once we started cooking soup on the stove it warmed up nicely! Read through the details of the restoration process in their photo album, impressive job! The house is very close to Luckett’s Antiques and easily accessible to downtown Leesburg if you’re looking for wi-fi, great restaurants, and shopping. The refrigerator was well-stocked and fresh fruit on the kitchen table, oats and cereal– so no need to plan for breakfast, it’s all there for you. If you have a horse, you can bring him or her along. Their stables are accommodating and what a nice expanse of land and fresh hay they have! You must meet all the horses, but King… he is most impressive! I was smitten with Griffin as well. Have already recommended to friends who want to get away without traveling far from Arlington/Alexandria.

My sisters and I have gone for a long weekend together at this log cabin a couple of times. It is incredibly charming! The cabin was moved from elsewhere on the property and rebuilt. They slipped in a few amenities — like heat, electricity and plumbing — during the rebuild. There is an awesome iron chandelier in the kitchen that Gina and Ted made themselves. Gina also made the glass-front kitchen cabinets from old windows. The fridge is stocked with all kinds of high-quality breakfast fixings. We like to make our own breakfast because we don’t have to wake up at a certain time and we can hang around in our pajamas as long as we like. We also like having the place all to ourselves since we can laugh and carry on late and no worry that we are disturbing anyone.

Well based on the two prior reviews, my husband and I were VERY underwhelmed. The cottage itself is darling and it’s amazing the work that Ted and Gina put into it! Beautiful craftmanship and cozy feeling. The bed however was far from cozy! It felt like we were sleeping on the wood floor, seriously! We both woke with back aches and I barely slept. Before we fell asleep we had to kill some flying bugs that were flying around the ceiling above us. Not a good thing to have to do before falling asleep. Ted questioned me about the bugs the next morning which surprised me that he knew they were a problem and hadn’t gotten rid of them or warned me prior to our stay or something… Then as far as the stocked food, we had some eggs and a box of sausage and some stale bagels, along with yogurt and fruit bag drinks, and some bruised fruit. Not my idea of a stocked for breakfast fridge and pantry. Also be sure to bring bar soap as there is only liquid soap. Don’t plan on a TV either. I didn’t mind this but my husband wasn’t happy about it. Overall, Ted and Gina were very nice but I think they absolutely need to invest some new matresses for sure and upgrade their food selection if they are going to sell the place as stocked. Not worth the $ 195 we paid and they’re uping the rate.

This place is SO neat. I was looking for a cottage in the Middleburg or Leesburg areas so that some girlfriends and I could spend the day shopping and going to vineyards without having to drive all the way back to DC. It was a perfect end to our snowy Saturday! We drove up to the house all lit up under a blanket of snow and quickly were oohing and ahhing at the fantastic interior. Gina and Ted are friendly and laid-back, and the house itself is comfortable and cozy. The kitchen lacks an oven so we were glad we had planned to make a big pot of risotto for dinner, but they generously stock the fridge with breakfast foods – and we arrived to find a beautiful lemon cake, as well(Gina sometimes brings leftover stock from a nearby cake shop for guests of the cottage). The house sleeps five very comfortably – we were asked ahead of time whether we preferred 5 twins or 2 kings and a twin, which was really nice since we were five girls traveling together. There is only one bathroom, but it worked out fine, even with all females :) The central heat was great – we had anticipated a chilly old cottage but it was REALLY warm and cozy inside – the perfect spot for cooking together and playing Taboo :) We plan to go back next year(if not sooner). The ONLY thing that we really wished it had was a working fireplace – there is a fireplace but it does not appear to work. There’s an outdoor fire pit, but there was too much snow to enjoy that the night we were there. So we made our s’mores with homemade marshmallows in the microwave :) The furnishings are quaint, the house is adorable, and the setting is beautiful. We opened the door in the morning to find Ted and Gina’s dog sitting on the porch, and they came over and chatted with us while they fed the horses. They were extremely friendly, and told us to stay as long as we wanted since there were no guests the following night. If you stay, be sure to check out the photo album that documents them rebuilding the house – it’s pretty amazing!

Stayed for a week. Wish it had been longer! Totally awesome 1807 wood home that has been completely raised and rebuilt near Leesburg, Virginia. Featured in This Old House Magazine, this 18th Century log home has been lovingly restored with colonial detail and modern conveniences. It is a perfect private getaway, full of warmth and charm. Owners, Gina and Ted Blake are unbelievable hosts. The house sleeps five people comfortably, and includes a modern kitchen and(single) bathroom, as well as, central heat and air conditioning. The modern kitchen comes stocked with fresh fruit, coffee, eggs, cereals and other breakfast items — if you remain hungry at 11am, it’s your own fault! The food and pantry are totally stocked with every need. Only thing, don’t expect a oven… but there is a microwave. The kitchen otherwise comes with a full size refrigerator, stove top(with pans and pots), toaster and charcoal grill. We took our horse there, and enjoyed the facilities… as did our horse. She didn’t want to get back on the trailer when it was time to leave! Bottom line: We’re already planning to book again in a year.
