Im from Chicago, so I’m used to great Chinese food. This place is the only place the satisfies my Chinese cravings since I’ve moved here. I love Shrimp Egg Foo Young(I don’t think many Kansas Citians know what that is) It’s not what I’m used to but it does the job. Great friendly and fast service are a plus too.Recommend.

Such a great place to eat! The food is always great. I have been coming here since it has opened and have never had a bad meal. They always remember me and take the time and ask how my family is doing. Very nice people. Five stars.

This place makes the greatest Chinese food on the planet. The crab rangoon’s are incredible. They definitely deserve your business.

Excellent food and the price is good, as well. The sesame chicken was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Other establishments dry out their chicken and just drench sauce all over it to mask the dried cardboard chicken bits. A+ on the crab Rangoon and the beef and broccoli!

Made to order, fresh, good food and friendly service. What more can you ask of a Chinese place? Portions are huge and the price is right.

This is our favorite and only Chinese food place. It’s so good. We probably eat it once a week, it’s right down the street from our house. It’s inexpensive with huge portions, we usually have leftovers. Beef lo mein and sesame chicken are my favorites while my husband loves the General Tso’s chicken. Great crab rangoon and the soups are good. Recently when I was sick all I wanted was white rice, plain and I was too sick to cook it. I got a giant thing of rice and soup and it nursed me back to health. The best Chinese food in the area, possibly the metro.

We ate at China King this evening. We were leery of trying it due to a few bad reviews, however, we were pleasantly surprised. None of us are spring chickens, but we thought this might have been the best Chinese we’ve ever had. The portions are huge and served the way food should be — hot. If you dine in, you eat out of the carry out tray(which is a nice, reusable plastic dish that is dishwasher and microwave safe), with plastic utensils. Next time, we’ll opt for carry out, but we’ll definitely go back. It will easily become our go to Chinese food in Lee’s Summit.

I adore this place so much. I have been coming here for the last seven years and it hasn’t changed for me. I would order from China King every other week when I was a resident in Lee’s Summit and I have sinced moved to a neighboring town. My «usuals» have changed over the years but they always seem to remember my order and how I like it even though I only make it out there once every couple of months now. The staff is very friendly. If you’re willing to forego atmosphere and opt for good, fresh food you can’t get any better than this.

This is a small little joint with great Crab Rangoon and wonderful General Chow’s. I’ve been going here for years when I don’t feel like getting typical fast food. The people on here who give it a poor rating may be the type who are too finicky for hole in the wall joints that have good food. It’s as if they would only go to some Chinese restaurant that’s modernized with nifty lights, gray hip walls and a fancy name. Anyhow for that there’s always PF Changs on the Plaza. I’ve admired the warm friendly hospitality by the family that own this restaurant. They are hard workers and honest people who if you don’t like it(which has happened only once to me) will make you something else.

I’ve been going here for years, as I live nearby. I will say it seems to have gone downhill a tad in the last year or so, but overall still good. Fast. Lots of people call orders in and pick up, and this is the best way to do it. Even if you don’t, you won’t wait too long. My only minor carp would be that the last time I ordered General’s Chicken, the chicken seemed overcooked. But on average, I give it a 4 star as hole in the wall Chinese take out places go around here. The lady behind the counter who I assume is an owner is always super nice. Once in a while, a younger girl takes my order, and she’s not very friendly, kind of gruff. But no biggie. You could do worse. I debated on giving a 3 or 4 star and I would err on the side of 4. Probably a 3.5 really.

Lady at the counter did not get off the phone the entire time we were there, took our order while she was on the phone and delivered food while on the phone. My cashew chicken was burned so I took it back and she got me another one, but she did not say a word to me. No one was in the place at lunch time… surprise, surprise, surprise.

This could go into a list of weird restaurants. I walked in, and there were 2 women also ordering. A partial menu is on the wall behind the counter. The full menu is at the cashier. I looked for vegetarian options, cause I often prefer the vegetarian food offered instead of meat. There were about 6 or 7 vegetarian options, and a fried rice containing mixed vegetables. I order water chestnuts and snow peas. The server quietly replied, after several seconds, «We are out of snow peas.» It was 4:30. I then ordered steamed broccoli and white rice. The server said, «I think we have enough broccoli.» I also ordered crab rangoon… crab, I know, but there’s not much crab in a crab ragoon, and I’m not a vegetarian, just lean that way. I ordered iced tea, which she gave me a styrofoam 16 ounce glass. I went to put iced tea in the glass and realized that the soda was poured either out of liters or cans. The iced tea was in a Tupperwear pitcher in the soda refrigerator. I had to ask, and the server, after a few seconds, said, «It’s there.» «Where?» I asked. She pointed to the refrigerator. I poured a glass of iced tea, and sat in a booth. There’s plenty of booths and tables. It was clean and bright. They bought me the crab ragoon, and they were really good. It had sweet and sour sauce with it. They were so hot I couldn’t eat them(heatwise). Then they bought by entrée. I looked at it. I could’ve made it at home. It looked like they used ½ a stock of broccoli. It was clearly fresh broccoli. It was sauteed in soy sauce, which tasted like Kinkman’s. The broccoli was very hot. There was alot of it, half of which I took home and ate later. The rice was white rice. That was it. Nothing exciting. I could’ve made it at home but didn’t have time to cook last night. I do alot of things in Lee’s Summit and I doubt I’ll be back to China King. It’s a little further east than 291. They have oodles of meat options. Just I thought what I ordered was kind of boring, and it’s too far for me to do take out.

I remember the first time that Rotten Tomatoes steered me wrong… Source Code. 93% or something on Rotten Tomatoes, and it was perhaps the worst movie I have ever seen. I mean, come on, how do you make Jeffrey Wright and Vera Farmiga look like bad actors yet make Gyllenhaal look, comparatively, like an award candidate? I was bamboozled by a site I had always trusted before and always trusted since… it was just that one movie that I apparently was in the mass minority about. But I digress… Well, that’s how I now feel about Unilocal when it comes to China King. I had a craving for some Chinese food in the LS area, and with a rating of 4.5 off of 5 reviews at the time, I figured China King was the place to go! Unfortunately, it was simply the most average, boring Americanized Chinese I’ve ever had. Ordered a Mongolian Beef and a Twice Cooked Pork. Both were… just plain, boring, and seriously lacking on taste. They don’t use MSG, which would be an easy place to point the blame versus other KC area Chinese restaurants… except, I’ve had phenomenal Chinese tons of times without MSG. So, it was just blah for some other reason. The Mongolian Beef was too heavy on the white onions instead of the green onions. The beef just tasted… funny. It lacked most of the flavor of Mongolian Beef, which is one of my favorite Chinese dishes. The twice cooked pork was a bit better… the pork pieces were quite large and came in a decent quantity. The pork itself tasted much better than the beef, and I preferred this dish, but it still wasn’t anything special by any means. They were really, really heavy on the cabbage and it kind of over powered both the taste and texture of the whole dish. In whole, the menu is a who’s who of generic Chinese dishes… nothing unusual, nothing inventive, nothing out of the ordinary. I really kind of wanted to go off menu and get something more traditional(since I travel to China several times a year and love the food there), but I felt like the staff was too busy in the kitchen to help me pick something off-menu…I felt rushed — «choose a number off the menu and choose it now». That isn’t to say the staff was rude, but they clearly seemed in a time crunch. The servings were large(so I had plenty of leftovers for a few meals to come), the prices seemed fair, and it was quick. But in the end, you come to a restaurant for the food… and, unfortunately, the food lacked.

The people giving this place 5 stars are either biased, on drugs, or haven’t wandered past Todd George Rd. to explore the numerous other second-rate chinese options in this great town. Even by Lee’s Summit standards, this place isn’t very good. Nothing is terrible or gross, it’s just weird. All of the sauces in the 4 – 5 different entrees I’ve tried were a strange orange-red color with an unidentifiable orange-red flavor. No MSG of course. The fried rice isn’t anything like any fried rice at any other chinese restaurant, anywhere. It’s as if it was boiled in soy sauce then thrown around in a wok for a few seconds. Unlike pretty much every other fried rice anywhere, this version doesn’t have the bits of egg and vegetables. Weird brown rice. The crab rangoon are definitely not the best crab rangoon anywhere, and they’re not even crab rangoon. They’re sugared cream cheese wontons, without even a hint of crab. It’s cheap, and you get what you pay for.

Finding a good Chinese restaurant is no easy task. My neighbors said good things about this«down the street» spot, though skeptical, I went with no expectations because you never know about hole-in-the-wall places like these. However, this place hit it out of the park. Service: friendly staff, nice and willing to make you what you want, even if it’s not on the menu. Atmosphere: Lots of parking, lots of seating, overall clean yet typical«hole-in-the-wall» kind of a place. Love it. Food: AMAZING. I asked for tofu and broccoli off the menu and it was PEFECT — crispy and plentiful tofu with perfect sauce and broccoli. Really, really prefect. Husband got a Broccoli Delight — a beef, chicken, and shrimp, meal, and ate it all up. Value: TOPNOTCH. For only $ 14 we had plenty of food and plenty to take home for another meal in the near future. Doesn’t get better than that.(Does not accept Amex). Hen hao chi! Xie xie ni, zhongguo wang!
