Michael’s Cafe

I came here for lunch with friends. Walking up, I knew by the smell it was going to be good. It’s a cafeteria style setting, so you go down a line & pick your «meat & 3». I had the fried chicken, turnip greens, and tomatoes & okra. Dessert was a slice of buttermilk pie, which was amazing! I also tried the fruit tea, very refreshing! The staff was very nice, & we even got to meet Michael himself! Too bad they only have limited hours, or I would come back more frequently.

Would not recommend for a wedding caterer. We used them for our wedding because when we first met with Michael and Scott they had a great demonstration and seemed interested in taking care of us, however as we got closer to the day of our wedding, no one from the café would return our calls or messages, and it took forever just to ensure that we still had our caterer lined up for the event. They finally finalized things with us when we got tired of being promised to get calls back and went to the restaurant during business hours to talk to them in person. Then, at our wedding, their presentation was nothing short of disrespectful. They did not present the food in the manner we agreed on, did not provide the foods we had agreed on, and did not seem professional at all at the venue. After the wedding, we tried to contact them once again and as soon as we told the owner that we just wanted to talk to them about the wedding, we were quickly brushed aside, claiming that they had turned our contract over to their lawyer to see if they legally had to do anything to repay us, proving to me that they knew they had done wrong, and were not willing to accept responsibility for what they had done unless legally forced to. Our advice is to strictly use them for their lunch at the café because they lack the ability and the responsibility to properly handle catering an event.

Food is great and their fruit tea is amazing! Generous portions and good prices too. My only complaint is that I wish they were open more hours! I love it!

We used Michael’s for our wedding reception. We received many compliments during and after the wedding that their food was some of the best wedding food people had ever tasted. Their BBQ was delicious! Everything was a huge hit and our day would not have been as wonderful without the amazing food provided by Michael’s. If you shop around you won’t find better prices either! I definitely recommend for any future events!

We used Michael’s for catering for our wedding reception as well as for the rehearsal dinner which we held in their private space. Initially, we had excellent experiences. Marcia is very southern — so kind and generous. We were pleased with everything we tried at our tasting, and it’s ultimately why we booked. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met at the events. Most of the food at the rehearsal was good, but the meats were dry and tough, tasting like they were made too far in advance. At the reception, they did not provide any napkins to go with the food (even though I had it in writing they would provide them) and one of our items was not provided with the same presentation we were promised and shown in our tasting. I wish I could say that when I provided feedback that the business went out of their way to make it right, but unfortunately they did not. It was very disappointing and honestly unexpected since our experience had been positive up until that point. It seems that they may be best at providing the buffet meal in their restaurant (as I do think their food is good), but it seems they don’t quite know how to manage larger events.

This place is great! Tucked away in a small strip mall… well, it’s more tucked near some doctors offices, etc. The people were very friendly that were working there, the prices were very reasonable, and the food was great. It is a cafeteria style setting, so don’t expect to be waited on, but it is southern hospitality at its best. While I was eating there, the cashier got out from behind the counter to help an eldery lady fill a drink and carried her tray of food to a table. How sweet is that? I’m glad to find a low key place with great people, great food, and a great price to eat!
