The Gilmore Cliff Shadows Trailhead is located along the north side of Alexander Road to the west of the 215 Beltway and west of Cliff Shadows Parkway. There is a picnic table and restrooms. It’s a great biking place. There were 2 dirt bikes there but motorized vehicles are not allowed per the sign. We went up the Cheyenne mountain, kind of did our exploratory hike. There is a good views of the Las Vegas Valley and the adjacent bluffs of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. This is a moderate strenuous hike with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Most of the gain is at the start of the hike on loose, steep limestone. I like it as it’s very quiet and you come across this vintage 1940 era car that has been buried for decades. I heard that someone has shot on it and set it on fire.

Not too many people seem to look past Lone Mountain when looking for quality hikes in the area, but this trail is exceptional. Great views and odd little corners to rest and take in the beauty of the edge of this Mojave Desert town. Check it out, but bring a lot of water with you.

I actually first learned about this trail from Unilocal!Lol And might I must say I am so pleased I checked it out! I’ve only hiked up the mountain, I never really follow the trail that I see is around the mountain. The hike my mom and I would typically do would be heading into the valley located towards the west side of the mountain(when facing the parking lot) and making our way up. While your making your way up you will start heading west a little and then you should see up into the distance there’s a flag!!! About an hour and a half to 2 hours(depending on your speed) you can reach this peak that has the American Flag blowing in the breeze! You can see the view of city and its just breathtaking! Total time it typically takes to hike this round trip is 3 – 4 hours(like I stated before, it all depends on your speed and how many/how frequently you take breaks). I have hiked straight up the mountain and down but it isn’t nearly as satisfying as the trail I stated above.

When I first moved to this area, a lot of people used to hike up the trail about a quarter mile and shoot off their shot guns. Usually they would blow up a random cactus or something. I remember one summer the monsoon uncovered an old vintage 1940 era gangster car. It has been buried for decades. When I brought my friend back here to show him it, the local hicks had already shot it up and set it on fire. Yeah… that’s the area we live in.

Not much here other then a couple of picnic tables and a restroom. It does provide a nice place to park if you plan to hike around Cheyenne Mntn. and want to start on the northern end of it.

I found this park by accident. It is one of the most breath taking, gorgeous, park I’ve been to yet! I can’t wait to hike in here soon! Its not child friendly, there are no toys! Horses welcomed, dogs too. Its very quiet, well minus the hum of the 215. I can be found here often!

Nice little park with restrooms and BBQs at the uppermost rim of the valley in the Northwest — just a couple of blocks from our place. If there’s one thing Vegas does right it’s parks. We’ve done a little hiking in this spot but came across a lot of shot-up /burned-up junk close by — which was kind of creepy but great for taking photos. Seems like people use this area as a suburban shooting range. Dramatic panoramic views of the entire Las Vegas Valley and the Strip below at night though! I’d imagine this is a terrific place to view fireworks on the Strip on New Years or across the valley on July 4th.
