Spare Time Entertainment Center

Came here for a work party. Everyone seemed to have a good time. The staff was very much not around. At all. Then a manager must have came in and entertained everyone. Not bad. Not impressive as well.

The place has changed immensely since I was in there before they remodeled. They replaced all the furniture and ripped the old grungy lounge with the fried food out and put in a really nice full service restaurant with some of the best onion rings I’ve had in ages.

Management: The current owners of this establishment should watch what they say when customers are around (and not around). Racist, sexist, and homophobic comments…
yes I heard it! (FYI: I know it was the owner and not an employee because I asked!)
Service: That is why I gave them 1 star! The gentleman at the front counter and the waitress in the food/​café area was very friendly and smiled the entire time even though it was a busy night.
Food: Average frozen bar type apps heated or fried.
Overall: I would rather spend my hard earn money at a different bowling alley such as one with better management.

Where to start? We had a group of 12 here for a 30^th birthday party. Added one star for the amount of activities, but that’s about the extent of the good things I have to say.
The service is garbage. 3 bartenders, 3 people waiting to order drinks, 15 minute wait. Totally unacceptable. Finally get the drink, there’s no perceptible booze in it. Bartender put mine and my friends on the same tab, even though we ordered at separate times. Told her whatever, didn’t want to wait another 15 minutes for her to fix it. One person was on their register the entire time, trying to fix a screw up she made, and we saw this on multiple occasions with different employees throughout the night. They wouldn’t do pitchers of Blue Moon, even though they have it on tap, because they buy it in too small of kegs (this from the mouth of a woman seeming like the manager?), but you can order two steins instead that together are larger than a pitcher anyway. During our wait, we heard another gentleman ask for ice for his stein, because his beer was served warm and flat.
After we played a round of laser tag, one of our members was feeling unwell. We took him outside for some air, grabbing a chair from two feet inside the doorway for him to sit in. When he stood up, an older employee stomped out the door, angrily swooped up the chair in a very dramatic way, and set it 10 feet away back inside the door without saying a word.
In summary, we collectively found this establishment to be overpriced, with terrible service and a poor demeanor toward its paying guests.

Great deal for MLK day – unlimited laser tag, $ 5 arcade card and a hotdog lunch all for 15 dollars. It was really busy but I definitely thought I got my money’s worth. Service leaves something to be desired, but the deals are pretty good making to worth it – keep a look out on their website for what deals are on what days. Monday is unlimited bowling with shoes for 10 $. Doesn’t get much better than that!

After waiting for 10 minutes in the bar as waitresses walked by rubbing lotion on their arms I opted to go directly to the actual bar and order my own food for my kids before they died of starvation… $ 22 an hour for the lane plus shoe rental… We won’t be back

Great time, lots to do, games, bowling, and volleyball. However promotions on the site have poor disclaimers. Pretty disappointed to find my kids were unable to participate in the promoted «unlimited laser tag». We waited for two hours for the promotion before we even inquired about it only to find out this was for «college students only». Wish this would have been stressed so we didn’t wait around. That didn’t even upset me as much as the rudeness of the staff. The individual directly helping me was trying his best. The person he was inquiring to seemed pretty annoyed… hollering like I didn’t understand english. Really?

I preface this review with the fact that we have been loyal Spare Time patrons for over a year.
Spare Time was excellent until our most recent visit when we walked out due to the rude customer service representative and poor management «assistance.»
The bowling alley refused to honor a promotion we have been using every time we have previously gone. Instead we were told we could pay $ 22/​hour plus $ 3.50 per game. For a family of four, this is not reasonable. The bowling alley was completely empty at the time as well.
Shame on you Spare Time, you have lost four loyal customers.

We love this place! My children (9 and 6 years old) have had multiple birthday parties here. After our friends came to our events, they booked their kid’s parties here, too! We also love to stop by on Wednesdays to take advantage of 50% off night. We’ve already saved over 5,000 tickets on the reusable cards!
I have read a few reviews that say the staff is not that great in the service department, but that has not been the case for us at all. Not only is the place kept clean but every interaction we’ve had with the staff has been awesome. Everyone has been helpful, kind, informative, and always willing to go out of their way to make our experience a good one.
I can’t say enough about how much fun we have when we spend time at this establishment. From the arcade to laser tag to the new rope course (it’s kinda scary, but in a good way!). We have somewhere Lansing to spend quality family time, for a quick trip or a whole day!

The company I work for held an all day event here for 35+ managers plus some sr management (40+ people) and we had a blast. We were able to hold our meetings in private, and also have private bowling and lunch area, plus all kinds of games in the awesome game room, laser tag area, along with team building exercises, etc. Everyone had a BLAST!
This is way more that just a bowling alley. Of course there is general bowling area, but they also a private bowling lounge/​meeting room that is separate which is great for private groups, there is a beautiful restaurant with an excellent food and drink menu, also laser tag, a cool game room, volley ball courts outside and they are currently putting up an awesome Ropes course that is brand new. There is something here for everyone. They go out of their way for corporate events, lockdowns (sleepovers with doors locked so no one can escape!), leagues, etc. This location is under new ownership and they have done many, many improvements to this location (now have heat in back bathrooms — can you beleive the BR’s did not have heat under previous ownership?!) Spare Time is a fun ‘family’ environment establishment. They also love and appreciate the everday walk-​in bowlers as well. I can’t wait to go back!

I have to admit up front that I’m not a very good bowler. I’m quite awful, actually. So I can’t speak to the quality of the lanes. It was affordable, although I haven’t bowled in the Lansing area in a long time, so I’m not sure what other places charge. I’ll be coming back next time I’m in Lansing and feel the urge to bowl.
