CLOSED!- I know it’s of no use to anyone if i write about a business that no longer exists. But that goes for my reviews of places that are still open as well. This place was the west side vinyl mecca before My Mind’s Eye. It was started back on east 185th street by former Pere Yoohoo guitarist Jim Jones. It changed hands and then ended up out west. I think it was the reason i even visited Lakewood in the first place when i got my driver’s license. It was magical. There was a blizzard(1996?). i trudged out to buy a Bob Marley compilation that had just been pressed on wax and that i ordered from there over the phone(laugh at the smelly hippie now, get over it). This was during the nascent days of the net and ebay, so the phone and stores still mattered. I went back monthly from that day on. It was small, but not cluttered. A great variety of used and new wax. There were some cd’s, but i don’t think they commanded much attention. One xmas shopping day i bought two psychedelic rock reissues from there and the owner(who was very informed and snotty) told me, «you’re holding two motherf*ckers there!» I felt like i had found the holy grail or won a superbowl ring. A-he was right. They are superb recordings. B-that’s f*cking good salesmanship! It got replaced by a gaming store some years back and i have no idea what happened to the folks who ran it. I miss :-( Can you end a review with an emoticon?
