We just moved to the area and thought we’d stop in. It had a nice old time feel and the staff were friendly & helpful. We had a great time, my husband even tried/conquered their Bigfoot fried chicken steak eating challenge. Gertie’s may just be our new spot

Breakfast all day. This place gives you a distinct impression of being an old-fashioned diner. Good sandwiches with a choice of fries, soup or salad. $ 11.95 for lunch might be a little expensive, but it still is good food.

The Food is good, but one of the waitress is racist. She will not greet black costumers, or give them refills. Without them asking. She even watered the plants in the front before we got any water. I asked for water and she says«sure» then starts slamming ice into the pitcher. It’s 2016, get over yourself.

I checked this place out on Unilocal ahead of time so figured it would be worth a try. It was a good 3 star for me. I had my wife and best friend with me and we had three different things. All was good but nobody said it was great. The price came in just a bit high I thought at $ 40 and some change. Plenty of food and good service. I was surprised at how fast the food came out. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here, but if you are hungry and in the area, its not a bad place to eat. I would go back again if in the area.

My Wife and I recently discovered this place, and we love it! The service is fast, and food comes out super quick! My Dad is ex-Military, and when they visited us during Thanksgiving he was super excited about the SOS special. Took him back to his Army days apparently :)

When we first moved here we saw this little restaurant off of exit 122, one day we decided to try it because it is literally 5 minutes from our house on post. We have heard so many good things about it so we knew that we couldn’t be disappointed. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and one bite and he gave me that smirk like this is good! Prices are great ant you get tons of food for that price. Service was great and they appreciate the military so much! We definitely continue going back for more!

This is a quaint little greasy spoon. The back of the menu has the story of how this restaurant came to be and it is pretty neat. My wife and I came here for lunch but I have a feeling their breakfasts are what they’d be great at! My Reuben sandwich was huge in portions and good. My complaint is that the corned beef was in thick deli-cut style slices. One bite and an entire slice came out of the sandwich, pulling other slices and a lot of wet sauerkraut with it. That and the bread was very soggy! I couldn’t finish my portion. The crinkle cut fries had zero seasoning on them. There was one waitress for the whole restaurant and one grizzled old bar tender slinging Bloody Mary’s for patrons(there’s an attached bar through a hallway). My wife said her burger was just okay and couldn’t finish her portion either. I have a feeling this place is a lunch favorite for Soldiers as the base is literally across the street. If I come back, it will be to try their breakfast.

This might sound weird, the food came too fast! Ordered sos on biscuit with hash browns one egg and a sausage patty. It literally showed up in 2 minutes. 2 and a half at the absolute most. Food was average, price a little high. In a nut shell, service was good, food average. Nothing wrong with average!

We moved here several months ago and have been looking for a good place to get breakfast. This place has that diner feel to it. All the staff was extremely nice and helpful. They have an assortment of dishes which are named after race horses, but the combination of the food is what makes this place unique. We ordered our food and it came out quick. Everything was delicious. Gertie’s is definitely going to be repeat for us. If you check it out come hungry because they serve large portions.

What a great gem! A little old awesome place right close to base. The food: outstanding. The environment: freaking amazing. The workers: Awesome. Overall, it is a place I would recommend to anyone! We went in to check out their all day breakfast & watch some football & boy did we fall in love. It’s divey, local, just sweet little place. Growing up in TX, these are the kind of places that are back home. And these are the establishments that we need more of! The food was outstanding. I recommend getting their biscuits & gravy! It’s our new place to hang out. With the restaurant on one side, full bar on the other. You can play pool, darts, jukebox, and they have huge tables in the bar area for you to sit with your friends. The people that were in there including the employees were probably some of the nicest people we’ve met in Washington. Matter of fact, now I know where the 10 nice people in WA hang out & work. This place! Go there everyone! Go as much as you can!

Awesome diner with great portions! Biscuits and Gravy are amazing — some of the best in the South Puget Sound! Really fast service as well… if you like greasy spoon diner décor you will really like this place.

OK. I’ve been on a quest this last week to find the best SOS around. The award goes to Galloping Gerties. OMGTHATWASSOMEGOODGRAVEY! I’ll be back for sure. Hats off to the chef. I saw a sign in the window advertising for a cook. If I didn’t already have a job I’d apply. I grew up in places like this. I’ll be back to try more of their grub for sure.

If you like diners this place is awesome. Great service at the counter with excellent coffee. Portions are huge so bring your appetite. I recommend the french toast, it’s perfectly sweet, crispy, and chewy.

Not that good. Was told it was good & then disappointed by our food. We’re all for eating what we paid for or taking leftovers, but this was the first time in a long time that we did neither. I could’ve half a** made something better at home.

I love this place! It’s the best breakfast hole in the wall we’ve found here in WA. Here is why Gert’s is the best: –You get tons of food. –The prices are fantastic. –Gravy comes on everything. –Coffee is good. –The waitresses are grizzled and sassy, just like you want them. Need I say more?

One of my favorite places for breakfast when I’m coming or going from Seattle Tacoma! This is a classic diner that also has a bar attached. A very full menu for the three meals of the day. Nice«home made» pies and other desserts. Being a stone’s throw away from JBLM and Camp Murray, many soldiers past and present are welcomed by the very efficient staff. From what I’ve heard and read, many look to Gertie’s as a home-like comfort restaurant during their posting at the Fort. Is it haute cuisine? No. Just darn good American diner food served by a friendly team of waiters and cooks.

If you find yourself on the road between here and there and want a great burger-or breakfast or dinner-Or a cocktail-stop here. Arlette was a pleasure to talk to and made me an amazing Bloody Mary. She said the fish and chips on Fridays is second to none. I’ll be back Friday.

Have been here twice and am just now getting around to review. First time there I had a bacon cheeseburger that was excellent. Second time I ended up with a roast beef and cheddar sandwich. Both meals were excellent! Service was propmt and curteous. Will definitely be back! Very conveniently located just north of gate 122(Madigan Gate)

They have an amazing breakfast. Delicious biscuits and gravy. Real friendly service and always ready to give you a cup of coffee. They are normally busy in the mornings so i try to take in consideration that their service could be slowed on crowded days. I recommend it as the place to go to alot of people or soldiers.
