We had these supper efficient guys install the cabinets we bought through Larry of CKD in Oceanside. Larry had arranged the install and we could not be happier with both the cabinets and how they were installed. David and Dave showed up right on time as scheduled and got right to work. The had a very efficient system for opening and getting everything ready, not a motion was wasted and I couldn’t believe how quickly, smoothly and cleanly they worked. Cabinets out of the boxes, boxes and packing neatly folded to be taken away at the end of the day. Took them a day and half, just what Larry estimated. I think installing cabinets in a nice and square kitchen is probably pretty straightforward. Unfortunately, I could not believe how out of square our kitchen was! How can our soffit be off more than a ¼″ in just a foot, really? How can the walls be raked so much? I think this is where the expertise and experience of David and Dave really came out. They got everything in without problems and hide all of our house’s imperfections as well as anyone would expect. Great job! While installing one of the cabinets, they noticed that the finish on one of the cabinet doors was not up to snuff (it was not obvious and the light had to hit the door just so for you to notice the imperfection). They contacted Larry and he ordered a new door which the guys came back another day and swapped out in no time. The contractor (who is also really excellent himself) and his workers handling my kitchen-​family room were also impressed with the work The David’s did. Really happy customers here so they come highly recommended.

We found Better Life Construction as a recommended cabinet installer through our kitchen designer, Larry Swartz of Certified Kitchen Design in Oceanside. Larry did a first-​rate job of designing our cabinet replacements and worked with us in his 20 – 20 kitchen software until we had nailed down our new cabinet plan perfectly. He then ordered KraftMaid cabinets and they arrived as scheduled in perfect condition.
Once the cabinets arrived, it was time for the demo and as noted by another Unilocal reviewer, David showed up on time and did most of the work himself along with his associate Dave. First, the skilled team of David & Dave removed the previous cabinets, re-​plumbed the refrigerator water line, and took out sections of drywall that had acquired mold over the years. They also took out some light fixtures that weren’t working for us and replaced them with much better units that provide just the right light for our kitchen, including in-​cabinet lighting. When everything was ready, then came the cabinet install. David did a great job! Once the cabinets were in they completed our mini-​remodel by installing new granite countertops, backsplash tile and finally, the shiny new stainless steel cooktop vent.
And let’s not forget the linen closet conversion. We asked Larry to swap out an existing hall closet and design us a wine bar… and we couldn’t be happier with the result. David did the rest, removing the old closet shelves then installing the cabinet with lighting, shelves for wine storage, granite countertop, backsplash tile and wine captain with a gorgeous outcome that we use almost every evening. What an upgrade to a small space!
What an improvement! We are so happy with David’s work. Everyone who has come to visit us has raved about how great our new kitchen and wine bar looks. We would strongly recommend Better Life Construction to anyone who is looking for a contractor. He provided us with a reasonable price and executed the kitchen design quickly, yet with attention to detail. He’s fast with great craftsmanship, shows up on time and has a great attitude as well. We were looking for a contractor to do most of the work to remodel our kitchen, and met David (the owner of Better Life) through a house painter we got a bid from.
David is a general contractor, but, with his one employee, did most of the work himself. He always showed up when he said he would. He’s not a designer, but gave us some good ideas. The work he doesn’t do himself, he subs out. He will do work «piecemeal», (i.e. we found our own granite and backsplash fabricator) and he’s fine with that.
And, as for quality! David has very strong values, and is a man of conscience. He fixed things promptly when something didn’t go exactly as expected; he was creative in his solutions, and the work isn’t «builder» quality — it’s expert! No wonder developers all over Southern California hire him to install their kitchens and to do other rooms! He does the less expensive kitchens, and he does million-​dollar ones.
One of David’s specialties is cabinet work. He beautifully installed all our cabinets in the kitchen and family room; took down a couple of walls for us and got them ready for painting; he prepared the kitchen for the hood and the granite; he does «light» electrical himself (he subs out the heavier stuff); he prepared our family room cabinets for good sound by putting a good looking (matched the cabinets) netting material on a couple of them so the speakers inside wouldn’t be blocked; he installed our extensive kitchen lighting (including LED lighting under the cabinets); he installed the sink, faucet and plumbing; and prepared for the installation of the cook top and ovens, among other things.
David is so busy, that you may have to wait a short time so he can fit you in, but it’s so worth the wait! I’ve heard so many horror stories about contractors (and experienced a couple), and David will never be one of them. He’s reliable, honest, quotes reasonable prices (less than any other general contractor we’ve found); and is a very sweet man, dedicated to his family and his work.
