My wife was searching for a shop that would sell hippie-ish clothing and etc. She had been to Sunshine Daydream in the past so we found ourselves nestled in their little Lake Zurich establishment again over the past week. There really isn’t too much to be said that you can decipher from the name of the place. You’ll run into a lot of tie dye and a massive appreciation for incense. There wasn’t much in the shop that appealed to me but I’m a sucker for any place that has a vinyl section. The lady working the cash register was really nice and knew a lot about the store’s products. My wife ultimately ended up buying a few headbands and had considered buying a handbag/tote. The two knocks on the place for me were the lack of vinyls. Given they advertise them outside of the store, I really expected to find a lot more. But rather it was a lot of albums for like ten artists. The other thing was I felt like the store was more of a Grateful Dead appreciation store. The amount of Grateful Dead items in the store was almost nauseating. And that’s coming from someone who doesn’t have a single problem with the Grateful Dead. I kind of feel like the amount of space taken up by that memorabilia probably could have been better served for additional items in the store. As it turned out there really wasn’t all that much in the store to look at or buy. Compared to similar stores I’ve frequented in Austin(TX) it didn’t really hold up. It’s worth a visit if you’re looking for a hippie-ish handbag, some Grateful Dead attire or some tie dye.

This is a really cool spot if you’re looking for that Spencer’s/Hippy kind of thing. They always have great sales and the owner was SUPER nice. I went in on Record Store Day and he had some nice random selections that Rainbow Records did not have. Scored the 1000 print Porno for Pyros re-release and the Soundgarden pink demo vinyl. I will be back for sure!

Drove all the way from Forest Park to get Suzy Greenberg a nice new dancing bear collar. It turns out it was 25% off and she loves it! Even my crabby bf enjoyed browsing the posters, puzzles, and CDs while I checked out the hoodie sale and throws. I’ll be back soon for some silly GD trinkets for my Crocs.
