Traditional hotel with pleasant helpful staff. Location is close enough to the main high street which makes for a pleasant walk around the lake and to the restaurants/stores. No elevator so don’t bring a large suitcase if you are only tthere for a short stay.

Despite being quite a bit outdated the room was large(with a walk-in closet!) and comfortable. The shower pressure was great and everything was clean. The staff was friendly and there was a large sitting room off of the lobby with a fireplace. It’s not a high end hotel but quaint and best part was that it’s in a great location a short block from Main Street restaurants and bars for a decent price. I would stay here again!

o start, the hotel is nice, quiet, sort of comfortable(the beds are nice but the sheets and towels are from the dollar store). However the managers of the hotel seem like they couldn’t care less. We went in what they somehow call«off season»(early November – seemed pretty on to me, most other hotels in town were booked solid). But because of this, they were completely absent. One of the main reasons I picked this hotel was because they claim to have a fireplace and a hot tub. Well, the fireplace was cold, and the hot tub was empty – no water. Despite going by the front desk 6 or 7 times during the day to ask if we could have a fire that night, there was no one to be found. Finally we saw some of the managers at the end of the day(~10:30pm). They looked at us like they had no idea anyone was staying in the hotel. At this point we asked if we could have a fire(better late than never). And they said no «because New York State.» What an intelligence-insulting answer. They said the hot tub was empty because it was off season. Look, I understand going on vacation, but if you do, you can’t expect to also make money off of guests. No one made up the room or changed the extremely scratchy towels. The management here couldn’t care less. Save your money – they don’t deserve it.

I would definitely stay here again and recommend the Pines Inn to others. The hotel was a little run down, but overall clean and presentable with a few signs of wear over the years. However we went during Memorial Day weekend and got a great price. Once we checked in, we were informed that we were upgraded to queen beds as they were Tempurpedic mattresses. Score! The rooms were decent size and had plenty of room for my friend and I to throw out all our belongings as well as all of our training equipment/bags as we were in town training for the Lake Placid Ironman in July. However, they do not allow bicycles in the rooms, but there was a room downstairs where they could be stored. Jill, the owner(?) was extremely pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. She knew where to go, and just as importantly where NOT to go for food/drinks/etc. Parking in the lot was easy, and it was very convenient to walk down to Main Street and get around town. Amazing service and good rooms for a great price!

So we were out thru-hiking the Northville Placid Trail, stuck in the third or fourth rainy day in a row … and a nice dry hotel and dinner in Lake Placid post-hike was sounding good. I managed to get 1 bar on my cell phone at a lean-to in Long Lake, did a search … and this gem came up in the same price range as the Econo-Lodge. No reason to spend the money on someplace nice for 3 smelly guys coming off the trail, just needing a place to crash before the long drive home — but then again no reason to suffer at the Econo-lodge if there’s someplace better at the same price. So I booked it. Having conquered the trail, we arrived two days later to find a nice historic hotel with some obvious quirks — trim, décor, finish, fixtures are all a bit faded from the hotel’s glory days. But it’s certainly clean and comfy — and picking this place over the Econo-lodge was a no-brainer, really. I’d have given the Pines at least 3 stars for quality to price ratio anyways. But when the proprietress informed us at check-in that she felt our pain on the trail, and had taken the liberty of upgrading our rooms so we’d all have posturepedics … 4 stars got real easy. I’d stay here again.
